I've heard no diesel is planned. A hybrid version may become available later, although that seems like a lot of extra cost and weight for an off-road vehicle.

Canada Racing

If you wanted a vehicle for racing why would you buy an FJ?

It is made for off roading and it is better than any North American vehicle. I love it!

Some of the best off-road vehicles are turbo diesels..they produce much more torque than petrol engines and get better mileage. Land Rover makes and sells the Discovery & Defender in TD5 is most overseas markets; Jeep also makes diesels in other markets. The only diesel thats been successful in racing is the Audi R10 TDI that used a V12 TDI.

Just to clarify, I've owned Toyota's for over 25 years and I haven't raced all of them but they all beem modded in one way or another, nothing's more fun that getting more horses out of a stock power train. Turbo diesel is the way to go for 4 wheelin, gobs of torque. Apparently Toyota feels it is not a viable option for the NA market, ie. that they wouldn't sell enuf of them...boy are they wrong...they should just ask us... a little marketing survey is in order here boys.
