I used to punt a ST141 Corona and stuck the biggest battery I could fit in the craddle. Small pissy batterys have knobs on. I brought my SV 21 as a work hack after I sold my 120 series Prado. So I have really just got the Camry and am slowly working it into a urban panzerwagon. No performance mods just a daily driver on the cheap. It will do unless of course you have a cheap Gen 3 manual or a SV21 2.5litre V6 in mint condition.

Originally I had a light truck (12v) battery in the battery bay of my '88' SV21 sedan, its base was the same size as the battery tray. At that stage I had 2 x 12" & 1 x 15" sub in the boot (during my 'all I want is kickin bass' days) also had a 1 Farad cap for the sub amps & e-crossover.

So yes big batteries can fit as long as the bonnet doesn't touch the terminals when closed (but these can be insulated).

Note:

A/: obviously if the terminals aren't insulated & touching the bonnet they will arc to the bonnet.

B/: if the battery terminals are too high you will punch upward divots into your bonnet when you close it. (yes, I have seen a mate's attempt at it and the divots look very ugly and noticable indeed).

Peace
