could this signal the return of the all-tracs??

Also, how about using some of subaru's turbos to actually make some fast toyotas!!! Can you say Corolla WRX?? :)

exactly what i thought when i saw the story, a new corolla WRX

yah, they can keep the Sti models for pride. I know I'd buy a Corolla WRX the day it came out. The XRS is a good car, but add turbo & awd and you've got a homerun!

The next gen matrix would be a good candidate for an all out rallycar like they get in Europe (ie, the cosworth focus and some other cool forbidden fruit) :)

It will definitely be interesting to see whare this collaboration takes both manufacturers. I would not think Subaru would want to use any of Toyotas cars as a basis for new ones due to the fact that they are all into their all wheel drive and symmetry or whatever it is they are touting nowadays. As for Toyota using Subaru technology. It would be hard to imagine a Toyota with a boxer engine in it.

i think this will lead to the suby hybrid and nothing more

Actually I had heard somewhere that they were working on a Hybrid but it was really only going to be used to help with turbo lag. IT would be more supplemental than anything. NOt like the synergy drive from Toyota but more like the Hybrid drive from the Honda Accord.

i doubt there'd be very much collaboration for the reasons listed above (symmetrical awd for the subaru's, and boxers in a toyota, although that'd be sweet) I think the main thing for subaru is extra production capabilities, and maybe learn some techniques to improve efficiency (not sure how tehy do in that department). For Toyota, maybe some knowledge of awd, and taht's about it, lol.

8.7% stakes is nada, i doubt there'll be any sharing of platforms of anything like that.

I thought it said in the article somewhere (but i can't seem to find it now) taht this would make toyota the largest shareholder of fuji

It will make them the largest shareholder with 8.7%. GM is planning on selling off the remaining 11.4% they currently own. So doing the math GM had a little over 20%stake in FUji. There sollaborations were not meeting expectations according to article. Like someone said with only a 8.7% stake there may not be much happen as far as vehicle collaboration it may be more technical collaboration if anything. Sharing technologies instead of vehicles. FUji is like all the other Japanese companies I am sure though they are into a little bit of everything. So it may jsut be a way for Toyota to spread some of there wealth around and see what happens.

ok, i misunderstood it as meaning that toyota already owned some shares, and the 8.7 would get them even more. I see what you're saying now, and that makes sense.

Fuji Heavy Industries is much more than just Subaru. Fuji has a hand in a wide range of products.
Got a Polaris snowmobile, ATV or watercraft? Chances are its got a Fuji engine in it.
Id hardly call 8% ownership to be "buying" Fuji. Toyota actually owns stock in many Japanese companies. I think they did it more to help keep another Japanese company in Japanese hands.
I think you might see some AWD technology pop-up in the future. Ford has it on the 500, dont be surprised if you see something similar on a future Camry.

if Toyota makes a car with Subaru, then this would happen...

Why?

Well Toyota needs help in the AWD department, the current Toyota AWD offerings are pitiful. Subaru needs the marketing help, that is their biggest problem.

i can picture it now

2007 camry with a turbo charged engine at 300hp awd:naughty: :smokin:

i think if they start using subaru's help on the turbo's that they will drop it on the next gen celica...when ever that will be....idk

i don't think their stake in the company is much for anything much to happen. i guess we'll all have to wait and see though

Guys, they are not investing in Subaru or Fuji Heavy Industries. They are investing in THEMSELVES! :)

Fuji Heavy to use Toyota parts for hybrid Legacy

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.'s planned hybrid car will likely contain Toyota Motor Corp. components as part of collaboration projects being discussed under the two companies' recently announced alliance, sources said.

Other plans under consideration are production of Toyota vehicles at a Fuji Heavy plant in North America and a role for Fuji Heavy engineers in Toyota's global strategy.

You know, Toyota do make 4WD cars. They just don't offer them here in the NA Market sadly. :sosad:

no, dont use the matrix, sure it would follow in the corolla wrcs footsteps, but instead use the new toyota yaris, lighter, and it would fly! no thats a candidate for domination

The Saab 9-2x aero was a awesome buy if you took advantage of the GM Employee Price Benefit. It's almost like getting a WRX for $20k compared to Subaru's price of $25k.
