Hi there, I've got an '86 FJ70 swb with the 3F motor in it and will be putting a '98 Lexus 4.0 V8 motor in as a conversion. I've got the gearbox with the motor but have heard that a Prado or Surf box will slot straight in without me having to machine the transfer case. Is that right? Has anyone done such a conversion (Lexus V8 into FJ70) or any advice to give please? Thanks, Dave

As much as I love the LandCruisers and I love the UZ engines, i'll try and help. Since your using a UZ motor, the autobox is likely to be an A341E depending on where this engine is comming from. Now please correct me if im wrong, the 3rd generation 4runner and the 1st generation tacoma 4x4s use A34_E gear box. So Why not look for a auto tranny with transfer case off a 4x4 4Runner or Tacoma? You can use the auto box and transfer case use the bellhousing off a 1990+ Lexus LS400. Heres a link that may come in handy for the V8. http://www.lextreme.com/

P.S. The 2nd Generation Prado is a 3rd generation 4Runner. The 3rd gen Prado is a 4th gen 4Runner, Lexes GX470. Best of luck with your LC, and I hope you enjoy your UZ V8. They are very beautiful engines.

Hi There, I am trying to build an off road safari vehicle. The Base vehicle that I have is a Toyota LJ70. I took the 2.4td engine out and want to put in the LS 400 v8 engine in, Am I able to use the Landcruiser manual gearbox with that angine? I have been told that This engine can only be used with an automatic box.
Cheers, Gary
