The 2006 IS 250 includes $5,000 of additional standard equipment with only a $255 increase over the IS 300.

The new IS exterior showcases additional standard features including projector beam headlamps, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, dual exhaust, LED tail lamps and brake lamps, and nighttime side-mirror puddle lamps that activate as you approach the car. Ten exterior colors are available and are matched with a choice of three interior colors.

The IS has an impressive lineup of standard interior features such as a 13-speaker premium audio system with an in-dash, six-disc CD changer and an auxiliary input for iPods or MP3 players, separate driver and passenger climate controls, HomeLink®, direct tire-pressure monitor, outboard rear- seat pretensioner seatbelts, steering wheel audio controls and Optitron gauges with personalized shift and speed settings.

Several innovations highlight the IS sport sedans' technical features. A new twin-chamber front-passenger airbag is designed to help manage impact energy by dispersing the impact of the accident between the head and shoulders. It is a part of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) featuring eight standard airbags, including driver and front passenger knee airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, front-seat-mounted side airbags and front passenger airbags.

The IS sport sedans' exceptional performance characteristics begin with two new direct-injection V6 power plants with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and dual exhaust. Mated to either a manual or automatic six-speed transmission, the 2.5-liter V6 shows considerable improvement in fuel economy versus the last generation IS 300. The robust 3.5-liter V6, mated to the sequential six-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission, carves out class-leading performance with a zero-to-60 time of 5.3 seconds.

The integration of these new technologies contributes to segment-leading efficiency with the IS 350 obtaining an EPA-estimated combined fuel consumption rating of 24 mpg (21 mpg city/28 mpg highway); the IS 250 coming in with an estimated combined 27 mpg (24 mpg city/32 mpg highway) for the automatic model and an estimated combined 23 mpg (20 mpg/29 mpg highway) for the manual transmission; and the IS 250 AWD attaining an estimated combined 25 mpg (22 mpg city/28 mpg highway). All 2006 IS models carry the EPA's Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle II (ULEV II) certification.

All IS models come standard with electronic vehicle stability control, a feature which helps prevent loss of traction in a turn. While the IS 250 features Lexus' sophisticated Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), the IS 350 comes standard with Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), one of the most advanced active safety systems in the world. Operating in a rapid, smooth fashion, VDIM is less overt than other stability-control systems, allowing the driver to approach the sport sedan's handling limits before it transparently applies subtle adjustments to the throttle, brake and steering system to help the driver maintain vehicle control.

The latest, most advanced Lexus Navigation System will be offered as an option in the new IS with a higher-resolution Video Graphics Array (VGA) screen. Sharper graphics with 3-D shadow effects compliment enhanced color definition and a 32,000-color palate. The new fifth-generation navigation system adds voice-recognition destination input, freeway exit-lane guidance and a route-trace capability. Spanish has been added to the voice-prompt feature along with English and French when the user selects their language preference at system start-up. The all-new IS 250 and IS 350 will be in Lexus dealer showrooms on October 14.

Since costing $35,440 for the IS350, there should be a good chance the ES will get the 3.5L engine.

I think the pricing of the IS is very attractive and will definately draw more buys. You get over $5000 worth of extra standard features compared to the IS300 and you only pay $255. The IS, to me is a bargain.

BMW 325i is $30,900
BMW 325xi is $32,800
BMW 330i is $36,600

Compared to those numbers, the IS is a really good alternative to the 3-series.

Mercedes-Benz C230 is $29,200
Mercedes-Benz C280 is $32,950
Mercedes-Benz C350 is $37,550-$38,150

Cool beans! Having seen the 250 and 350 up close...the only way I've been able to tell them apart is the from the badge on the back...and that the 350 looks about a half-inch lower.

Who in here is now going to buy an IS, now that we all know what the pricing is?

i think they priced it pretty well... the old IS300s top of the line model was just slightly less. For about the same price you're getting much more hp and a bigger engine.

Any news on those Canadian prices? Keep in mind we have the BMW 323 in Canada that slots just below the IS250 at what looks like it may be a $5000 price difference. Also, it looks like standard equipment in Canada for the IS will fall short of what they're getting in the US.

Will they actually build any at the base price or, like the Prius and others, all will have "packages" to raise the price and profit margin? BMW advertises lease payments and not price, partly because base models are never actually available.

Anyway, while I am disappointed that Lexus, like Mercedes has gone to a V-6 in place of the inline, this new IS looks a lot better than the old car and may actually take away some 3-series customers. When it comes time to replace my 325i, the IS250 will be on my short list.

lexusis350
10-20-2005, 05:43 PM
Does it really matter if it is a V6 or an I6? As long as it has good fuel economy and good enough power. Do we really need over 200 hp? It is enough anywhere, we all dont always go 0-60.

hmm...this may very well be my next car.

oh damn wth is this "The IS 250 is briskly propelled by a 2.5-liter 204-hp V6 with 185 lb-ft of torque" That is so weak!

10-21-2005, 10:48 AM
how powerful is that IS350?

I heard its crazy good. but dang, $36,000 for a base 350... I defiantly want the XENON and 18"inchers.. plus, that optinal factory kit and HKS exhaust. This is SOOO gonna run me into the $40k range...

Is it true that Lexus is also planning a V8 powered IS460/500 ? That would be great. I am a bit dissapointed that the IS350 doesnt come in AWD or 6 speed manual.

Sup people. I'm from Dallas and one Pharmacist at my work place just purchased an IS350 for $54 grand. Another Pharmacist purchased a new GS430 for $62 grand, freaking rich bostards.

That is impossible. The IS350 fully loaded with every option available i.e. Mark Levinson, performance or luxury package. Navi costs under $44k.

i walked into donvalley toyota and lexus, located in toronto. I sat down with a salesperson to get a quote for a trade-in because at the moment, i thinking of doing that. As soon as i mentioned that i want finance it, he asked me why i'd do that. He told me that 99% of his customers lease the car. I don't know if thats true.....

So for a 4 year lease, with 10 grand down, It came out to a li'l more than 500CDN. I don't keep a car for more than 5 years anyway because it starts giving problems and depreciates like crazy so i mite pick one up soon but not sure... still debating...

Tideland Prius
11-19-2005, 02:47 AM
Well, that's cause most people can't really afford it but just want the show off that they can drive one hence the lease. That and they're probably the type that changes car often. I prefer finance just because in case something happens 3-4 years down the road, I have (some) equity.

$500 eh? That's not bad. Wait, is that for a Sport Pack IS250 RWD?

Well in Canada if you have a business and you can write off a big part of your lease payments.

Regarding the post about the IS250 being weak... think about this:

Camry 1MZ - ~190 hp with 3.0L.
IS250 - 206 hp with 2.5L.

Not only that, the 250 also gets the fuel economy of a Camry 4-banger!

Too bad US business owners couldn't buy the car because of the luxury limitation, that only restricts cars under 5000 lbs... (Which is why we see so many business owners with Lincoln Navigators or Hummers). :disappoin

Both high compression IS250 and IS350 engines using direct fuel injection and dual VVT (came from the Toyota Altezza/IS200 3S GE high revving Yamaha engine that had both of these things) are capable of putting out well over 100 HP per liter of displacement. The IS350 racing car being built for the next grand am series racing will put out more than 450 HP from just 3.5 liter engine. Just goes to show the technological marvel these engines are.
