I have a 2001 land cruiser that I am giving to my daughter, as I have just bought the 2006. The 2001 has a ticking noise that I can hear when I go slow and my window is down. Any thought as to what this noise may be?

The 2001 has a ticking noise that I can hear when I go slow and my window is down. Any thought as to what this noise may be? My 2000 makes a ticking sound when I first start it. I read that the ABS or the traction control system (can't remember which one) does a self check. There is a VSC light that will stay on if there is a system problem. Scenario 1: The light is burned out and you don't know if there is a problem. Solution: Does it come on for a short while when the car is first turned on? Scenario 2: there is simply a rock or nail in your tire. Solution: Is the ticking speed dependant? Can you find the rock/nail? Scenario 3: There is a small stick stuck under the car hitting a wheel. Solution: Any unexplained mud on the vehicle when your daughter comes home? Just kidding. Hope this helped. Tundras and LCs seem to be proned to this. joinerman 01-14-2007, 04:29 PM It's often said that the ticking noise is associated with big end bearings about to fail, i had the ticking, did the bearings, good job i did but still had the ticking, a few weeks later i adjusted the fuel flow screw on the back of the pump & hey presto no more ticking.
