Real World Fuel Mileage

Planning on buying a 2003 SR5 Sequoia in a few! What can I expect in the fuel mileage category? 75 mile round trip commute; 60% highway @ 75 mph; 40% city @ 35 mph. I have a friend with a 2004 SR5+, and he swears by 20 mpg on the highway! Is he pulling my leg, or just lucky that he only drives downhill both ways?

First off, any car, past 65mph, your killing your mpg. I've seen my uncles sequoia go 19mpg!!! and this isn't paying attention the lil screen. But either way, if your buying a full size SUV, non of them are gonna be any different in the fuel economy subject. You want fuel economy from a SUV that can go offroad, get a 4runner V6. I got 26mpg driving 55mph on the freeway.

We've owned an 01 SR-5 since new, about 4.5 years. Low teens around town, high teens on the highway. We've never reached 19 when I've been measuring (by fuel put in and miles covered, not the little guesstimator computer). EPA highway is 18. Someone professing that they get 20 would be highly suspect (either as to their truthfulness or ability to accurately measure). Maybe, maybe if you got on the open interstate, tires blown up to 50 psi, no load in the vehicle, and "cruised" at 45 mph, but of course, who's going to do that . . . not me!

Just completed a ~1200 holiday one-way in the Sequoia, fully loaded, all ~80 on highway. On day one, from Pensacola to Norhern VA, we averaged just under 16 mpg. On day two, essentially the same conditions, except colder and a little slower as we drove to southern CT, we averaged just over 17 mpg.

We own an 04 Limited with 27,000 miles and we average 15.7 mph with about 40% Highway and 60% city. That is alot better than my old 2004 Toyota Tacoma V6 that averaged 13 mph.

Mine averages about 15 mpg, I do mostly urban driving and college campus parking spot hunts.

i have an 04 sr5. after K&N cool air pack and helix throttle body spacer, i am up to 16-16.5 urban and 17 to 18 highway, at 75/80 mph. even after i add duals later, i don't EVER see getting 20 with realistic driving. currently closing in on 25,ooo miles.

Our 2001 Sequoia Limited's computer claims to get about 20 mpg even going 70-75, and claims as high as 22 going bout 65, even 25mpg drafting behind a big truck, and in its 70,000 miles claims to have averaged 17.5, though quite a bit of highway. Though on constant 4 hour trips the car somehow manages about 400 miles on the tank... a realistic 16 mpg :rolleyes:. On the last run of gas i've been doing constant city driving with literally no speeds above 40 on pretty average throttle and am gonna get about 12 mpg on this run, sometimes full of 8 people and cargo though

Overall I think the Sequoia gets decent gas mileage for an SUV of this type. On the highway it is similar to my very small 1995 Pathfinder I had a couple years ago, loved that car though, till the thing rusted out, thanks to New York winters.

But indeed, mpg shouldn't really be that much of a concern in any big truck or SUV, unless Ford's supposed hydraulic hybrid system that gets prius like gas mileage in the F150 actually works.

2002 LTD 4X4 loaded.... The best I can get is 17 on highway going 70MPH... in Las Vegas

I am just breaking in an '06 Sequoia Limited...I have 1,600 miles on it now...averaging 14 mpg....

sticker indicated 15-18 mpg......

I guess that is something to strive for.......

When I bought this vehicle, I guess I was not considering gas mileage or I would not have bought it....

These vehicles are very heavy & only being pushed by a 4.7L engine.....

You cant expect much per performance for mpg..

Well the Sequoia, especially the 05s and up, are fairly quick for their class, especially considering their small engine size. I've seen high 7 second 0-60s achieved, which is just fine for their class. They make a good amount of torque for their engine size, and from what I hear, realistic MPG is a bit better than the domestic counterparts, especially the smaller Durango, though that has a 1 liter larger engine with 60 more horses than an 06 and bout 100 more than mine.

The new Tahoe, however, looks like a very attractive buy, and is rated at about 4 MPG better than the Sequoia on the highway, which is fairly significant. Hopefully the next Sequoia is a nice step up from the current one, which is already a very nice vehicle, though very lacking in towing and hauling.

I have a 2003 LTD 4x4; 16.9 is what I average. I tow a smaller trailer with my race bikes to the track as well.

What can we strip off this Sequoia to lighten the load??
Or, What can be replaced with "After Market" to make it lighter?

'01 w/ 105,000 miles on it and it still gets about 16 in town and 19 highway. Overall, it has been averagin about 18 mpg for as long as we've had it, 2 1/2 years and 60,000+ miles.
