What kind of amp wiring kit should i get......

What kind of amp wiring kit should I get for 2 JL 12W3 D4 subs and JL AUDIO 500/1 amp? Thanks a lot

all the kit is the same. the only diffrence is the looks.

no no, i'm talking about gauge wires and stuff do i need any specific type for my amp and subs?

there are diffrent kits for the diffrent power. if you want some good set up use a 0 gauge from your battery with a stiger SHD4MAX block. kits out there sux your better off getting part from here and there.

JL 500/1 is the shits! That is what I use to power my JL 12W6v2. Just be sure to use 4 gauge wires. Damn JL 500/1 amp melted my 8 gauge monster wires!

I'd have to agree. Get 4ga as opposed to the typical 8ga.

yup, yup... at least 4 gauge for your power wire. and don't forget an inline fuse at least a foot from the battery along that power wire.

the amp kits aren't too bad. just make sure that the lengths are what you need. the kit usually gives you just enough to install a basic system... and nice little things like ring terminals, inline fuse (with fuse), cable ties, and sometimes wire loom.

try and compare the prices if you were to buy everything separately. my friend gave me a Phoenix Gold kit a few years back. the 4 guage power wire was long enough to get to my trunk. but i found the ground wire to be a little short for what i needed (shorter is better for ground wire though).

:lol: i had had the same kit before. they gave me aobut 15ft power wires. and 2 1/2 ft. ground.

I just got some generic power cable, 4gauge and 8gauge...some RCA cables, some speaker cable from radio shack... works just fine and dandy (except my ground and power cables are both black, but as if I dont know which is which ;P). I'll take some pics of my installation later...

0 guage is overkill for 1 jl 500 amp 4ga. I agree on
your ground should never be longer than 18"
The Soundstream tarantula is fused @ 300 amps but will only pull 200 amps max and that's a 2000 watt amp with a 1/0 power term and thats when you consider 0 gauge, 1/0, 2/0 ect...

You melted both the power and the ground?

A friend of ine has a jbl 1200 running 2 kicker solo dual 4ohm speakers when we noticed his ground wire melting. We also notced the caps led's were only reading 13v when the car was running. Well anyway his ground wire was not connected correctly and caused the wire to melt. So I suggest everyone who grounds their amp to scrape the paint away from where the lug makes contact for a good ground. Oh he's running #2 power and #4 ground

If your power wire melts it usually means it either grounded somewhere or is too small.
If the ground wire melts its either to small or not properly grounded

But both I've never heard that before

the most painful process of installing the system i think is running a power wire from your battery to your trunk. for gauge will be fine but sooner or later you might upgrade to a much larger system. so yes 0 gauge is a over kill but it dosen't hurt to have it for future install.
