sometimes when i try to start it, i turn the key but nothing happens. it doesn't turn over, but all the lights dim when the key is turned. starter doesn't click or anything either

but if i turn the key to the on and off positions a few times and then try it, it will start

is there some sort of sensor or something that would cause this?

This is a typical symptom of a starter that's gone bad. As to whether a sensor could cause it, I don't know of any sensor in the 91that could. My guess is that your starter is bad or perhaps your ignition switch is intermittent.

I had that happen to me recently and it turned out to be the starter contacts.

Like White89SR5 said look at your contact wires. Make sure they are free of corosion on both the battery and the starter. If that doesn't help tehn likely either the starter or solenoid is getting stuck either way a replacement starter assembly is in order.
