91MR2quickNA 02-20-2006, 09:37 AM The Soarer can't exist anymore, because the Lexus brand was launched in Japan. If it's a Toyota in Japan, it's a Toyota here (if we get it).
I'm not sure what it is, but perhaps Toyota wants to compete with Nissan. It could be a mechanical twin to the IS350/500 coupe. The Toyota brand here in the U.S. does need something to spice things up a bit. With the absence of the MR2, there are no longer any RWD cars. Sad, huh?
So, it can't be the new SC, because the SC was never offered with a V6 (and never will be). The only feasible thing is the new IS coupe. The LF-C was a hardtop convertible in coupe form. The mirrors fit in with the L-Finesse theme and the IS sedan. I think the front end rendering is totally wrong though, unless it really is a Toyota branded car.
Keep in mind that BMW is preparing their MY2008 3-Series coupe/convertible. I'm betting this is a glimpse at a production version of the IS coupe.
Hard top V8? Bet you you won't see this branded as Toyota once it gets here.
pjsammy 02-20-2006, 01:00 PM if all the IS based rumors hold true, this could be a V6 or a V8. Either way, it's all just rumor. Here's hoping, though!
TTercel 02-20-2006, 01:26 PM It kinda has the shape of the new Jaguar XK...could this car go aganist the new M3...maybe this is the 2 door IS...i dont know lets just hope it comes to N America
SolaraTRD 02-20-2006, 02:28 PM wow, i'd take that over a S2000. (if the price is around the $32kbase US dollars)
^Wishful thinking, the SC is $66K, you think this will be half the price of a SC??? :disappoin
Tom 2000 02-20-2006, 03:17 PM From reading the cover of the magazine, it says "New Supra classfied development documents". The base model will have 350 HP and the pricing to start in the 3000000 yen (approx $30K range).
On the 2nd page, I do see planned MSRP. It's hard to make out because it's so small, but it reads 3980000 yen (about $34K) for the V6 (350 HP) and 4,560,000 (about $39K) maybe 4,960,000 yen (about $42K) for the V8 (450 HP).
The car will be based on the Lexus IS platform.
The main market will be North America. That's one of the key reasons for the convertible as its key competitor (Nissan 350Z) has a drop top available.
aznstylez 02-20-2006, 09:22 PM Ummm...The Lexus SC did come in V6 from 92' up to 2000 with 225hp. After 2000, it was only available as the 430 which was a V8.
HoboJoe 02-21-2006, 02:44 AM I want it.
What do you think the chances of this thing coming here are? Slim to none?
shockel 02-21-2006, 03:12 AM it sure looks like a updated mk4 supra to me
Razo-E 02-21-2006, 03:14 AM Ummm...The Lexus SC did come in V6 from 92' up to 2000 with 225hp. After 2000, it was only available as the 430 which was a V8.
the fuck are you smoking..?
i have an SC300 in the driveway..
now..
from later 91 (model year 92), the SC400 was introduced, with a 4 liter 1UZ-FE V8, in mid 1992, the SC300 was introduced with a 3.0L 2JZ-GE Inline 6, now, the SC300 was the 1st car to use the 2JZ..
2000 was the last year for the 1st generation SC's (about, 2nd or 3rd for the "Soarer" name)..
there was no 2001 model..
the SC/Soarer returned in 2002 with the SC430, available exclusively with the 3UZ-FE V8..
so, the point im making is there's never been a V6 in a soarer or an SC...

A 3-series convertible in 325 form is around $39.6k, and in 330 form is $44.9k. Hmm ...
IS350C / IS500C.
The IS350 sedan is already at 35.5k, so in convertible coupe form it'll be around $42.9k, while the IS500C should come in around $55k (just under the M3 convertible).
The 350Z doesn't have 100k annual sales, but the 3-series does.

ahh the SC300/400. Such a nice a car. I wonder if the LF.... err.. I lost track. Not the LF-A but the other sports car concept. That looks like a future SC.
CryoSlash 02-21-2006, 04:53 PM it sure looks like a updated mk4 supra to me
i agree. loooks soooooooooooo sexy!
ECHOKnight2000 02-21-2006, 05:08 PM Obviously this is all speculation but if this is the next Supra or replacement (for you die hard fans not replacement as far as car but as placement as a sports car in the Toyota line up), I would soil my pants...oops too late. Like most of you I'm hoping this is, as I read or hear from time to time in Car and driver or Road and track that Toyota is working on something. As sweet it would be to have a an IS hard top I hope Toyota is working on a car for their line up as well as they need to spice things up with a sports or sporty car for there line up. Here's hoping!!:whatwhat:

You're talking about the LF-C, right? That was showcasing Lexus' plans for the new IS. There is a coupe in the works, but I'm not sure if it's a hardtop convertible like the concept. We need more auto shows.
So far, the SC doesn't have an L-Finesse concept yet.
Tideland Prius 02-21-2006, 10:49 PM Yeah, the LF-C! Doesn't that look more like the SC though? or are you telling me that's probably the IS coupe?
WhiteRabbit 02-21-2006, 10:58 PM wow, that is sexy
aznstylez 02-21-2006, 11:42 PM RAZO-E: this is not a place to cuss. aight, the SC300 didn't come with V6 but it's still a 6 cylinder engine.
91MR2quickNA 02-22-2006, 12:53 AM Yeah, the LF-C! Doesn't that look more like the SC though? or are you telling me that's probably the IS coupe?
Toyota/Lexus was hinting at where they were gonna take the 2nd generation IS. The Crown coupe test mule has been spotted on the Nurburgring with quad exhuast pipes, indicating at least a V8 option. The Crown Royal/Athlete shares the basic chassis with the IS, so it's feasible to say that Toyota was testing powertrain and suspension setups for the new IS coupe.
The SC is aimed at a different market. Think of a Caddy XLR when you think SC. An IS coupe/convert. will be aimed at the entry-level luxury buyer, like the 3-Series coupe/convert.
project92camry 02-22-2006, 01:26 AM damn i want that shit so bad!!! it looks like a porshe front and s2000 rear.
Razo-E 02-23-2006, 12:06 AM RAZO-E: this is not a place to cuss. aight, the SC300 didn't come with V6 but it's still a 6 cylinder engine.
i cuss not to degrade; it's just the way i talk..
now, you specifically said the SC300 had a V6, not a 6 Cylinder..
as far as i recall, the Soarers were I6's, until the Soarer Limited (SC400) was introduced, and is now currently exclusively V8..
will it remain that way? Only time will tell.
People inside Toyota have been talking about a high powered v8 sports car for a while now, its nice to finally see some kind of substance behind those rumors. Who cares what its called, it looks very promising!
Blah! 02-23-2006, 07:58 AM Who cares what its called, it looks very promising!
Exactly!
I just want one. No matter how it's called.
Git' her done! (and don't skimp on the horsepower). :whatwhat:

I know this is all speculation, but are there any dates in there??
toyotaholic 02-23-2006, 02:22 PM ^ no dates, toyota's very anal bout releasing info on new products
Blah! 02-23-2006, 03:08 PM That’s too bad. I don’t care if this thing is two years out. I would be nice to be able to plan ahead; this way I won’t end up buying something else in the meantime and end up regretting it…
Christian87N 02-28-2006, 01:29 AM im in this mkIV mailing list and this owner was talking about how he has the april r&t and how the 2008 supra looks nice and whatnot. Does anyone know what he's talking about? is there an article on r&t about the supra? Am i also the only one that thinks that making another inline 6, like a 3jz, or something with aluminum alloy be a good idea for a supra if it is ever made?
toyotaholic 03-01-2006, 02:02 AM whoever has that issue should scan and post the pics
Avalonman 03-01-2006, 08:02 AM Do you think its coming to the States some time soon?
Blacksupra93 03-01-2006, 11:13 AM pics are already up on supra forums....its the same pic as in the beginning of this thread. not really any new information....
vannman 03-02-2006, 10:30 PM Here ya go guys...

Wow. That would be quite a car. I better start eating Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches if I want to buy one of those when it comes out
It would be fairly expensive (if they build it as described), but think if they keep the price at the level of the Corvette or a little lower, it should be a success.
So, how many of you would buy one? The V8, or the "entry level" V6 ?
Tideland Prius 03-03-2006, 12:16 PM Why does that pic look like an RX-8 concept car?
Christian87N 03-04-2006, 02:35 AM Got a few questions about that article:
1- It is said by whom? The part of the article that mentions that toyota had planned a 4.3L engine but then a 5.0.
2- What is a Lexus GT 450, is that the name for the LF-A now?
3- How do they know that the engine will be producing X hp and X ft-tq?
R&T article =:bullshit2 in my opinion.

its been speculated for a while now and i hope GT 450 isnt the name cuz its freakin lame
Anyone know which magazine that article came from???
darthlung 06-09-2006, 05:57 PM Anyone know which magazine that article came from???
it is the april 06 road & track . that issue had three toyota/lexus soon to be carr inside . the IS450(400 bhp) , Supra (450 bhp) and and GT450 (500) and they are all overpriced . i just priced a 400+ bhp corvette at 46k , and the new shelby starts at 40k with 475+bhp plus a new camaro will be out late this year with 400+bhp 6.2L V-8 .
