varietta 07-29-2001, 05:12 PM Hi folks,
No one is really posting on the Corolla board, so I thought that I should put up a post. It's about nothing significant, really, but read on if you are bored.
I met the owner of a white AE92 Corolla Levin with a 4A-GE 20 valve motor today, a motor that is not avaible in our North American production line-up, and we had a brief discussion outside Pacific Mall.
To my surprise, it was a silver AE92 Levin with a 4A-GZE that he was driving, his friend's car. We had a discussion about how many AE92 Levin's there are in Toronto exactly. Too bad I didn't get his number or e-mail
He told me that there are five AE92 Levin's in Toronto, and counting. Let me try and remember the five:
1) White, 20 valve motor, no further info.
2) Blue, 4A-GZE supercharged motor, mesh wheels
3) Silver, 4A-GZE supercharged motor, black 5-spoke wheels
4) Black, red wheels with chrome lip, no further info.
5) Another 20 valve equipped Corolla?! Who and where?
6) White, stock 4A-GE - recently totalled in an accident, stock
Note: it seemed like the man who I met today, did not know about this car.
Well, Andrew, do you have anything else to add to this. I mentioned your name and I told the owner about your car. Do you know him? I didn't ask for his name, but I think I've seen him before.
I think he was rather surprise that I liked his [friend's] Levin. I guess he wouldn't have expected me to have known about Levin's and thus had an interest in Corolla's, who would honestly?
I hope to meet with him again, nonetheless. An interesting thing to point out is that the 20 valve conversion, on his white AE92 Levin, was done by a truck driver. He picked up the motor from a company that went backrupt.

bondobondo 08-02-2001, 02:28 PM hey cool kev,.. i will try to fill in the blanks..
ok, i am not sure who you met, Whether the guys name was Micheal or Marvin.. i think that are the guys, they are buddies.. one is a silver Ae92 levin.. that is supercharged with the DLI ignition very late model 4agze, with larger pully and racing exhaust.. has 5 star fittapaldi rims last time i saw it. pained flat black.. that one is michaels car.
the white 20v ae92 is a very interesting story..this is norman;'s ride.. he is more of an older guy, kinda fat.. and he has like a 20v engine. the interior is pretty bare, but the body is all original?! i don;t know where they found this doner car, but the rear fenders are crazy clean!.. he took that one racing and was completely dancing around the type R's.. sir's and gsr;s...
the engine had no airfilter the last time i saw it and the radiator was lifted from a suburu imprezza..
interior is a disaster, but that can be changed easily!
there is that black ae92 with the red 6 spoke rims and chrome lip.. there are actually twin cars like that.. one has a 20v, and the other i HEARD was for sale GZE.. but had problems.. the 20v flavour belongs to a nice guy still a student, named norman..cheung
there is red one.. and ANOTHER black one.. i have seen that levin at pacific mall, but i didnt; get to see what was on/in it..
that totalled ae92 is sitting in a wrcking yard now. but there is NOTHING useful fromthat car.. hahaha
Andrew Luu and myself and ken too, have all met marvin and michael and we have their phone numbers.. but thing is.. the silver levin is for sale! but the owner is asking for 10,000... Aurther's blue ae92 is also going for 10,000.. maybe i should invest in turning my own car into a levin! hahah
but the flip up lights just look too smart!
thanks
andrew
Jzs147-RR 08-02-2001, 11:02 PM How much does one of those cars cost??They would make a cheaper MOD car,let me know if you know where to get them and for how much.Thanx guys..
varietta 08-03-2001, 02:00 AM CamryRR, 'AE92' is just us nuthead's way of saying the early front-wheel drive model Corolla's. In places such as Japan, the AE92 is further separated into what is call "Trueno" (pop-up headlights - close to what is offered in Canada).. and "Levin" (fixed headlights - not available in Canada, eh?) The year of production was in 1989..I think. You probably see them everyday on the streets. They're inexpensive and you can get one for as low as $2000-4000.. in good condition.
Andrew, whoa, hahaha, I guess you know everyone with a AE92. Haha, cool. Arthur's Levin is still on sale? For $10,000????? Um, good luck finding a buyer.
A red and another black? The Levin conversion is getting quite popular in Toronto. It's good though. Not alot of people know about the Levin's and think it's factory. Join the club and get a Levin face!! It's relatively inexpensive right? I'd get one for my AE86 if it didn't cost $3,100!!!!!! Jezus, I can get another AE86 for that kind of money.
Are you going to Shannonville two weeks from now? Maintenance sucks! Pads have been replaced... but it still makes that same noise. Okay, I'm fed up. I'm going to sell my AE86 for $9,999! A dollar cheaper than what the competition is offering.. Hehehe Just kidding. I love my baby!
Not for long...if this maintenance keeps up!
Kevin
[sPooN] aE86 08-03-2001, 03:30 AM hey kev?
man... i just got so fed up w/ the body work today that i ain't gonna make it white anymore! =( might be doing what nick is doing.. make it a sleeper for now.. then get rid of it sometime after fall?
then look for a MINT one... yea i know it's gonna be hard to find.. but i want one w/out rust damnit!!!
i'll be selling mine for what? $3099?? haha yes another $ below! i'd sell for 1500 if i didn't get the new clutch + brake lines
k there better be a mint one out there somewhere...
Ken
bondobondo 08-03-2001, 08:46 AM hahaha
the levin face will cost me $3100 also.. around there, BUT!!! that includes a supercharged gze engine, and all installation fees.. so that is alot better than just body panels alone..
cheap modder car.. DAMN straight.. the only thing is that you can;t find alot of stuff for these cars.. that is the only thing... . and they tend to rust.. BUT as a competitor to the eg6's civic's i think it would be a very very worthy one with the gze engine, or even 20v engine conversion..
there is one in toronto that is a fully blueprinted and built 4age with carbs, it is a full race car, and competes with porshes at MOSPORT.. that is one ae92 that no others can come close.. it is around 200 horse, but in a body that is around 2000 pounds.....
the best thing about owning a ae86 or even ae92 is that i love the character these cars have.. they are BIG time nostalgic cars in japan, as the only ones still running around are those that are in very very good condition.. these cars are featured in paintings and drawings by japanese artists, used as cult icons, the last of the modern of hardcore circuit racing, and as a subject of the initial d cartoon series.. the character of the takumi and hte ae86 mirrior each other in their individuality and uniqueness.. .. why should i get the newest honda this, or integra that, when driving my car is more fun?... if not at least more me!!
varietta 08-03-2001, 11:52 AM Definitely, these cars are fun to drive. Even the four door is fun to through around tight turns. Very predictable machines! Wow, there's a fully built AE92 GZE race car that competes at Mosport? What series does it compete in, do you know Andrew? I want to go watch someday. Mosport is so freakin' close to Toronto. Unlike Shannonville..
By the way, I went to a shannonville event yesterday.. for a MR2 meeting. I had a chance to sit in a Integra Type R with full suspension, roll cage, brakes, etc... Hahahaha, I was being thrown left and right through each turn and I had to hold onto the roll cage to avoid sliding into the driver. A very forgiving car.. I think I want one!
Kevin
bondobondo 08-03-2001, 01:09 PM yes i lied about the ae92's being THAT great.. but the ITR's are incredible track proven machines.. if there was any car i would trade up to, it would be that.. or nothing less.. but then again, it would have to be side draft carbed and JDM front end! haha and of course. only white!
the ae92 that competes at mosport isnt; a gze at all.. he is getting 200 horse NA.. that means carbs!!! i dont; know him, but i know the car is up for sale.. $20,000
thanks
andrew
varietta 08-03-2001, 04:00 PM $20,000 is decent for that car, I think.. Considering how fast it goes. Carbed AE92! YEEEAAHHHHH!!! That's the way to go. No need for no force induction.. NA all the way!!!!
Guys, I went to Thirty's at Times today, to find car rental for the 18th event. But anyhow, I saw a never-before-seen red AE86 hatchback with VINYLS!?! Hahaha, it is the 1986-86 model with a screwed up front OEM bumper (front impact - smashed bumper). It has vynils all around and a performance muffler. I wanted to give my thumbs-up but I realized I was driving my four door.. So I decided not too.
Anyone know him? Chinese guy..
I think I'll limp to the meeting tomorrow with my loose exhaust. Hahaha..
Kevin
Kevin
bondobondo 08-03-2001, 08:13 PM sorry man no idea what ae86 that is, but i know they are sprouting up everywhere! it is weird.. but i guess if they can get one that is half the battle.. now the hard part is to maintain it..
why there is so much vinyl on it? cuz think about it,.. with all the money they guy spent just trying to MAINTAIN the car.. he has no cash left for real performance upgrades.. so sticker-tuning is the only option..
thanks
andrew
varietta 08-03-2001, 10:43 PM Andrew,
That's true. But oh well, having stickers is understandable. Hehehe, I'd get some if they aren't so freakin' expensive. It'd get myself some TRD stickers. But wait, I'd also need some TRD parts or else that's free promotion. Hehehe  Wait, I can make my own..
Argh, I don't think I can make it for the meet tomorrow. I'll be in Oakville. I'll have to see. I'll give you a call in the afternoon if I can make it.
Kevin
