Landcruiser from small to big

Anybody know why the original jeep like fj40 was changed to the big boys we have today? Did Toyota have problems with "Jeep"?

The ayatollahs wanted more room for their expanding families.

Hmmmm lets see, a bunch of very well paid Toyota enginners and marketing types sitting around a board room thinking, we have built the best 4-whl drive ever!! we better change it, or were all out of work???

Actually land cruise came in jeep, truck and suv formats we see today. The truck formats are still sold in africa and parts of middle east. The jeep side was discontinued due to lack of sales (now look for FJ series to revamp this aspect).
