qjonny 03-29-2006, 10:57 PM I used this Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax on my Taco about 3 weeks ago...and it's really holding up good. It's been raining alot and it still beads, shines..and I've washed it about 3 times too.
Any one else impressed with this??
UCFnate 03-29-2006, 11:01 PM Ya, ive tried that and it works good, but then I saw what Pb2themax wrote about the P2IS Carnauba wax and used it, and it works great for the price.
TrdTacoma84 03-29-2006, 11:07 PM NXT is the best for me its so easy to take off. I love it and smells good too hahaha. Its on my taco as i type. I like it really good.

The NXT is good from what I hear.
P21s is amazing.
Klasse is amazing.
Just ask PB.
I am dying to use the P21s kit I got for Christmas. :naughty:
TacoSport05 03-29-2006, 11:13 PM I used the NXT wax in the summer...really easy to take off, which means it comes off real easy too after washes!
Right before winter I used Meguiars #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax and its held up really good. Applied it in November of last year (6 months ago) and the truck still beads when it rains! That's after taking it to the mountains 10+ times and exposing the paint to snow/sand/slush. I doubt the NXT would've held up.
I'll probably use NXT in the spring after I do a full exterior detail...
DoubleDecker 03-29-2006, 11:15 PM NXT is some good stuff - easy to use and looks great. It will only last about a month though. But good thing is, you can easily apply another coat.

novataco 03-29-2006, 11:26 PM doubledecker...that is one of the best wax shine pix I've seen in a while. You nailed it in the right light, at the right angle, etc.
Man I want to get that PC and detail right away. I have been so busy I worked 5 of my days off this month, did two double shifts on top of that last week (9 shifts in one week), probably 12-13 days off I worked in the last three months...some of it traveling overseas with jet lag and stuff...and I have just not had the time I would like to do mods and detailing that I have wanted to do. I've been on nights for three months straight.
Well, I am much richer from the OT and raise the last few months, and I just got home from work...turned in all my OT sheets and expense accounts tonight, and now I have four days off starting ten minutes ago. I am ten minutes into my first Maker's Manhattan, it will be in the 60's and 70's through the weekend...
What is a man to do...hmmm...black headlights is a good start...maybe get a PC and some Klasse AIO...OK...what next....? Another Manhattan...!

Black headlight mod for me this weekend. Sucks dude but hey you got some free time now chill.........
novataco 03-29-2006, 11:50 PM Black headlight mod for me this weekend. Sucks dude but hey you got some free time now chill.........
Well, sucks and it doesn't. Work is going great...but man, free time to chill is something I haven't heard in a while. I got out on the road bike today (road bicycle) before work, for only the third time this year, and plan to get a ride in every day until Monday..
Promised the wife I'd cook some good meals (I love to cook too). Gotta' check out the Cherry Blossoms in full bloom in the Tidal Basin (probably on my ride tomorrow) and have to go to the dealer to find out why my tube step bracket is hitting the underside of the cab. I think there is something wrong with the cab mounts on the driver's side.
Honestly I only see another wash in the picture this weekend, probably no exterior detailing. Maybe the black headlight mod will happen for me...I hope...!
TrdTacoma84 03-29-2006, 11:54 PM Spend time with your wife get that tube step thing fixed. Enojoy scenere while riding. and take it easy. The truck is always going to be there. Theres time for everything. if i were you i would enjoy this time off. :)

you must have alot of free time..... But yeah i also like detailing my truck so i guess you can call it a hobby.
novataco 03-30-2006, 12:10 AM Remember, I've got Thursday and Friday to myself while the wife-slave is at work...(j/k)...and I am dying to get busy with some detailing and mods...:burnout:
But yeah...the main thing is to not do it all, and have lots of variety...time with wife, riding, cooking, truck...

bowen1 03-30-2006, 12:33 AM I use all the products from maguires. I recently clay barred, polished, nxt tech waxed my 06 and it came out reaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyy smooth and soft. You are right the wax doesn't last very long, but with the pc buffer it doesn't take long to re-apply. I have had my truck since Dec. and have 6,200 mi. on it and have only washed it 2 times. I just wipe it down with instant detailer every other night. The truck still looks brand new.
TrdTacoma84 03-30-2006, 12:35 AM i know this is off topic but whats a good duster for the black paint. I bought one and fucked up my color. left mirrioing and gazes everywhere so pissed but i have to drive on a dirt road every day for work so the truck gets dusty. Anyone got any ideas on how to keep it clean.

Nice! I'm scared of SG on black, I tried it once and it took FOREVER to buff out, lots of hazing, and I used it sparingly...perhaps I'll try it again. I use it on my silver wheels and it lasts a good 6 months.

Dana_15 04-02-2006, 09:36 AM Here's a couple of pics of my hood, just topped with NXT. It has a layer of Klasse AIO, 3 layers of Klasse SG and now a single layer of NXT. The NXT really helped "pop" the paint, I'm impressed. Every layer was put on with the PC 7424. NXT is good stuff.
Before with only the AIO and 1 layer of glaze

Not bad at all--but the NXT gave it some more depth and detail. Next pic was today with NXT.

turbos17 04-03-2006, 06:05 PM Meguair's is some of the best "over the counter" stuff you can buy. The NXT stuff is great and so is there Gold series. I use it after my Klasse AIO and SG. There quick detail is awesome and smells great too! I due everything by hand "elbow grease" makes the muscles get "BIG!" Woot woot!
Super Kaioken 04-08-2006, 02:41 AM which would you vote to be better? NXT or Gold Series!? THat BMW LOOKS AMAZING!
eyeball96 04-08-2006, 09:17 PM Agree! NXT gives good shine, easy on and off, smells good..but doesn't last long!
For off the shelf stuff, look for Mothers #26 Yellow Carnauba paste wax. It's probably the most durable wax that you can find at most retail stores. It's not as easy to remove as a synthetic, like NXT or Nanowax, but it will last much longer.
If you're wanting something better than off the shelf, try Klasse AIO. Or here are a few of my other favorites that have great shine and durability.
Mother's Reflections (http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?ref=exceldetail&ct=64040&pd=277286)
PoorBoys EX-P (http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?ref=exceldetail&ct=44434&pd=170702)
MooseWax (http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?ref=exceldetail&ct=29303&pd=97676)
You can't go wrong with any of these.
eyeball96 04-09-2006, 05:03 AM Thanks for the links, IYO, of those three, which is the best, longest lasting?
Thanks for the links, IYO, of those three, which is the best, longest lasting?
I would go with the PoorBoys. Another good thing about the PoorBoys is that their products can be applied in direct sunlight. There are very few waxes that can be properly applied in direct hot sunlight, but Poorboys is one of them. If you live in Hawaii, CA, or Florida then you might want to check out the PoorBoys stuff. I just recently tried it, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
If you have dark colored paint you might want to add some of this on top of the PoorBoys EX-P. http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?ref=exceldetail&ct=44434&pd=220119 Nattys blue wax is great for adding a wet look, and it seems to darken and deepen the color of the paint too. I would let the EX-P cure for a few hours before applying the Nattys. If you use a buffer to apply the Nattys, use a low speed and soft pad. You don't want to get too agressive and possibly remove some of the EX-P layer.
If you want to place an order for some PoorBoys stuff, send a PM to our TN member: exceldetail. I think he will give you some freebie towels along with your order.
BTW, if you're going to place an order with Excel, then you might want to add some Optimum car wash to your order. :) http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?ref=exceldetail&ct=46688&pd=277629 It's a little pricey, but it's worth it IMO. A good car wash soap can save you lots of hours of polishing. Better lubrication = less marring and scratches.
The gallon jug is a much better value. http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?ref=exceldetail&ct=46688&pd=277630
92MX83 04-22-2006, 02:30 PM Another option for both durability and looks is Collinite's 845 Insulator Wax. It's been around for quite some time, but has been developing quite a strong following on the aforementioned Autopia Forums lately. It is a clear wax, with no real cleaning/hiding abilities, goes on easily (it's a liquid), removes easily (apply very thinly), VERY economical to use, leaves no residue, and gives 4-6 months of durability (well, beading, anyway), with the crazy beading starting to loosen up after about 6-8 weeks (YMMV). I used to use Meg's #16 Pro Paste Wax (discontinued), which was very durable with decent looks, but the Collinite won me over. The only negative is the strong solvent smell, but the ease of use, looks and durability have made it my go-to wax.
I've had pretty good results with NXT paste; looks great on dark metallics, decent durability, smells nice, easy to use, but hard to wash out of applicators. It's light cleaning ability will also remove much of anything you put under it, so there's no sense in using it over your Klasse. NXT liquid, in my experience, showed mediocre durability against the paste version.
I like Klasse AIO due to its chemical cleaning properties. It's great for helping me clean off old wax residue on trim, and it's a good base for me to top it with pretty much anything, wax or sealant. Its durability hasn't really impressed me (but that could be a climate factor), and its swirl-removing ability touted on the container hasn't been borne out in actual usage, but it's a mainstay in my arsenal. I've stayed away from the SG, as a 24-hour cure time before the next layer doesn't mesh well with my customers' schedules, I'm not fond of the look on dark cars, and a number of people on Autopia have had removal issues (perhaps caused by humidity or over-application).
Sealant-wise, I've had great results with Poorboy's EX w/ Carnauba on dark-colored cars (love the Hello Kitty eraser scent too), and Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection on lighter cars, but I tend to top sealants with waxes anyway to deepen the look and preserve the durability (UPP makes white explode, but has middling durability in my experience). Both are very easy to remove (still need curing time, though).
For all you black car owners who consider waxing your car to be a sensual experience rather than a chore, why not give Pinnacle Souveran a try? Yes it's expensive (as low as $50), yes it beads for only 2-4 weeks, but on properly-prepped black paint, I have not seen anything as deep/wet-looking. It's amazing stuff, smells like a tropical drink, applies/removes easily, and you can get up to 50 applications out of that little 6-oz jar. Pure beauty wax. Not as reflective as a sealant, and it can mute lighter colors, and other waxes can give 80-90% of the look, but Souveran, IMO is worth it. For special occasions.
BTW, another vote here for exceldetail. If I didn't have Ranney at Pakshak in my backyard, I'd definitely give exceldetail a ring. His reputation for service, quality products and going the extra mile for his customers precedes him, and he is a deeply respected member on the Autopia forums.
Deviant 04-22-2006, 03:27 PM Never heard of poorboys before. Thanks pb for that. Should try some, theres hardly ever a chance of cleaning/waxing properly in the shade over here... unless it's about to rain...

For wax, try their EX or EX-P. EX-P is more durable, but not quite as much depth as the EX. If you have a dark colored vehicle I would use the EX, othewise get the EX-P.
Deviant 04-22-2006, 05:47 PM Thanks, think I'll go with the ex-p. I have a silver streak taco. Any idea on how the finish is like or comparable too?
EX-P does awesome on silver, and helps show off any metal flake in the paint. If you want to go an extra step and try to add some depth, add a carnauba topper the next day after you apply the EX-P. Try Natty's Blue (also available at Excel Detail) or P21S (available at Autopia).
Glanza 04-28-2006, 06:18 AM i am now using the NXT wash because i wasn't overly happy on how long the slippery finish was lasting with just using the NXT polish , and a different brand wash liquid...
now combined the NXT polish with the NXT wash , it seems to keep the perfect finish for longer...

Do you mean NXT wax?
You should never use just polish. Polish has no protective properties. If you just polish, your paint is sitting there naked with no protection from the sun or contaminants. Polish just cleans the paint. After polishing you should always follow up with wax, to protect the paint and keep the gloss.
Generally, NXT car wash works good with NXT wax; that's how it was engineered. I like using car wash that is made to rejuvinate the wax. P21S Car Wash has products in it that will enhance a carnauba wax job, and not just clean the paint. PoorBoys Slick Suds is good stuff too.
Glanza 04-28-2006, 08:56 PM yep , we call the wax the final polish here..
i know what i meant lol
i own a detailing business and have been doing it for about 7 years , so i know what im suppost to do :)
