JustJames 06-07-2006, 01:22 AM We just got 07 Camry with I4 engine. I opened up the hood and saw pretty ugly engine with no cover at the front of engine, like those in Hybrid ones. I've seen a couple pics of I4's engine bay with some kind of aluminum cover. I might have to go back to dealer and have them installed the cover if that the case. Can you guys with I4 07 camry post a pic of front area (engine area) for me?. Thanks
Avalonman 06-07-2006, 10:30 AM Talking about the Aluminum Colored Covers, thats only on the V6/Half the Hybrid.
THe I4's are hte black colordd covers with the red lettering. And half the hybrid.
I'll see if I can get you some pictures.

ghettosled 06-07-2006, 11:24 AM why would you want to cover up the engine? thats what the hood is for. its nice to see the various parts of the motor, plus you are making the car lighter without the extra weight of the cover!
I don't like engine cover too, extra weight and hides stuff. There may be some sound dampening with the engine cover though.
Here is a picture of a normal 07 I4 engine bay.

JustJames 06-07-2006, 02:24 PM Thanks for the pics. I think I'd better go to dealer soon.My car doesn't have the cover next to engine black plastic cover (look like the one in Hybrid which can see copper exhause connected to engine).

Will they give me any trouble for this part?
you are missing the exaust manifold upper shield. They absolutely should not give you any problem. As a matter of fact they should appologise for it not being there in the first place.
adrand 06-07-2006, 02:45 PM Let us know if they put the exhaust Manifold cover on for you without a problem. After looking under my hood, mine came without that cover as well. It seems strange that some would come with it and others wouldn't. Thanks.
94camryxle 06-07-2006, 02:52 PM That shield protects users from getting burned. But that alumunum shield gets pretty hot too. I had one on my old 94 V6. Got burned many times changing the oil filter, which is right below it.
mtnet2000 06-07-2006, 03:36 PM I don't have that cover on My 07 LE I4 Either!!!???
njerald 06-07-2006, 03:50 PM I don't have that cover on My 07 LE I4 Either!!!???
My Japanese XLE I4 has the shield!!!!!
I have two US made 06 4 cyl Camry's and they are both missing the cover/shield.

94camryxle 06-07-2006, 04:06 PM Someone was taking their 20 minute break at the Kentucky plant when the shields were to be installed. They guessed no one would have noticed.
No really, go back to your dealer and check a similar one on display, then say, wow mines doesn't have the sheild, WTF! If they don't install on the spot, pull out your 10mm socket and say I'll take this one (joke).
I called Toyota and was told that the PZEV Camry's don't have the shield because the PZEV units have a different emissions system and don't need the heat shield.

92hb_hb 06-07-2006, 06:46 PM u should deffinately get the shield.. over time, the heat will affect the hood paint and start cracking it.. seen it don on my 93 camry..
JMSinMD 06-07-2006, 06:51 PM Im thinking the US built I4's don't have them? Jon.
i 1a 05 Camry 06-07-2006, 06:55 PM I believe so as well..cause mine doesnt have it as well...how much would it cost, if i were to purchase one? or will toyota "gladly" put it in there for free?
mine is a us built I4 SE
it has the heat shield, but is missing the sport pedals.
thoots 06-07-2006, 08:07 PM I got mine:

So, how do you know you've got a PZEV or whatever? I truly doubt mine is -- I've got the impression in my head that its a ULEV. I suppose that this mostly has to do with state of purchase (CA / NY) or country (Canada), eh? :)
Old Dood 06-07-2006, 08:22 PM I have a Jap built I4 LE and I have that cover....thank God...
thoots 06-07-2006, 08:30 PM Oh, geez, I forgot to add that to my smart-alecky picture:
Japan-built I4 XLE. :boink:
All 2006 and 2007 Camry's sold in California are PZEV and they don't have the heat shield.

I think Nicu is right. California and some other states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hammpshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont) have a higher emission standar. the 06-07 camrys sold to these states are PZEV and have slightly different exhaust systerm. What you lost for this exhaust systerm is the exhaust heat shield and 5~6 horsepower. What you gain for that is the longer wanranty on the exhaust system (15 years or 150k mile). check your "owner's warrnty info".
my camry doesn't have the heat shield either.
LunarMist 06-08-2006, 01:35 AM I have 50 State Emissions on my car so should I have it? Its dark and I dont feel like getting dressed and going outside?
thoots 06-08-2006, 09:53 AM I have 50 State Emissions on my car so should I have it?
50 State Emissions pretty much has to mean that it's NOT a PZEV, so you should have the shield.
JustJames 06-08-2006, 12:08 PM So I am in CA, I got PZEV car with ~ 5-6 power less than other also got not so popular american made car. I shouldn't waste my time going to dealer to get that heat shield, correct? Have anyone with no-heat shield contact TOYOTA to see if they will do anything about it?
MrSo0h0o 09-30-2006, 08:44 AM sorry to revive an old thread but i noticed i dont have the heat shield either... any more word on how this will effect the car in either a positive or negative way?
Avalonman 09-30-2006, 09:23 AM the paint?

I think PZEV Camrys are 3 hp less 155 vs 158 and about 2 or 3 less torque.
