Toyota Cutting New Products?

Toyota may be slowing down the number of new products it is developing in response to an increased number of recalls, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition Thursday. The report says the slowdown might only equal six months or so in the company's product cycle, but would be a major acknowledgement that even the world's richest car company may be expanding too fast. The paper cites several major, recent recalls including those on Tundra pickups and the Prius hybrid as influencing the discussion at Toyota. Vehicle lines that could be affected include the Sienna minivan, Avalon sedan and Camry Solara coupe. Last year, Toyota recalled 2.38 million vehicles in the U.S., or about 120,000 more than it sold in the year.

at least it shows true concern that toyota is dedicated to maintaining the best built car reputation. when would detroit have ever done anything like that.

I was once told this by a long time Toyota owner:

I found that info in the article to be weirdly off-center. The Sienna is due for a remodel soon so that makes sense .. but the Avalon is new just 18 months ago and the word is that the Solara will not be replaced as space is needed for the 4 door and hybrid Camry's.

Our 99 corolla has been problem free as well. Great little car. I can NOT say the same for the '05 Tacoma. My uncle has an avalon as well. I think it's a 99 with about 100K on it. He loves it.

I have owned both Japanese made and American made Toyotas. Didn't really see much of a difference. Difference comes in the US standards and policy. i.e.. airbags and emissions standards..

If you see a Corolla in Hong Kong, it would have a much nicer interior because the money is not spent on satisfying strict state laws.

Not there is anything wrong with the emissions standards and all that... :lol:

The article is talking about cars that were recalled, not that might have problems in the future.

The average new car has no problems at all. Reliability now is only the liklihood that the car will have problems, not how many it will have. And Toyota's liklihood of repair has increased of late.

No pain/no gain. We all know this problem will be fixed pretty quick at toyota. This company was built on quality and have stuck to their guns since. And look it is all starting to pay off now. I have friends who have been through 2 -3 cars due to problems and I am still driving my toyotas - lol. Guess what two of them just picked up - lol. When the big 3 look at the short term in pleasing sharehlders toyota looks at the long term and pleases everyone.
