boi_si 09-03-2006, 10:14 PM my brother that works for toyota dealer spoke with managers who went to the plant in texas, i believe he said san antonio? where the tundra was built. all the '08 toyotas which are corolla, tundra, seqouia, landcruiser, and the rumored toyota coupe, which they said can possibly be the celica while theres no supra sitting there is to be the final to be release. designers say celica is more likely to be out before supra.
they had the scion fuse, scion xd which will carry the 2.4 (i think this is the xb with 2az im kinda confuse here), xa i believe will be discontinued, a corolla with 2.4. many of other modified scions where there. they were happy to see the nascar camry engine being started up rumbling the whole building.
they had a show where they tie up the tundra with a dodge of same class with hemi motor and the tundra pulled.
also a 1/4 mi test was made, tundra with the dodge and the dodge had no chance.
this is what i was told yesterday since they were doing labor day sale and discussing alot of stuff going on with toyota. if someone has anything similar to this, please add.
the tundra plant in texas was said to be over 10 miles long? its a long plant...
boi_si 09-03-2006, 10:17 PM :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown
since i bothered to ask, he said theres no 2zzge or 3sge coming into future US toyota as of yet... :hammer:
toymkr2 09-04-2006, 01:57 AM sorry but there is no way the plant is 10 miles long!!! they are only going to make the tundra there for now with the mother plant in indiana supporting texas this is a fact..
dsmnick 09-04-2006, 03:31 AM I'm guessing they meant ten miles of assembly lines...there is no way a plant could be ten miles long. Not only would it take you like 3 hours to walk from one side of the plant to the other, there is hardly anywhere left in the US where a plant could stretch for ten consecutive miles without hitting a road or terrain barrier.
84Cressida 09-04-2006, 03:56 AM Land Cruiser and Celica?? This made my day!! I hope it's true.
Bakemono 09-04-2006, 10:06 AM Ive gotta call :bullshitz: on this one. You lost me when you talked about the '08 Celica. There will be no '08 Celica...
Camread 09-04-2006, 04:21 PM maybe a hot corolla coupe to replace the celica....?
Kevs Toy 09-05-2006, 09:31 PM Were there penguin waiters and Santa Claus handing out complimentary toys? Sorry, just sounded really tall taleish to me

My second cousins best friends sister in law's dad went to that too
Your initial post is a little confusing to me, are you saying all of those vehicles are to be built at the same plant or they "had" all of those vehicles there for a showing???
they had a show where they tie up the tundra with a dodge of same class with hemi motor and the tundra pulled.
also a 1/4 mi test was made, tundra with the dodge and the dodge had no chance.
I highly doubt this (and I dislike dodge). I'm sure both vehicles were evenly matched and both had excellent drivers who tried their best to win.
I don't believe anything I hear and only half what I see, so wheres the pics :D
repinS 09-06-2006, 01:05 PM This is the only Celica that I'd like:

Wow, you guys are harsh.
He is correct that US dealers have visited the Tundra plant. He is also correct that the Tundra beats the Hemi in 1/4 mile. In fact the 07 Tundra will have the fastest 1/4 mile of all its competitors. You may highly doubt it all you want, but it's true.
The 2 door coupe? My guess is it will be a corolla. I'll be seeing the 08 corolla and 08 Matrix in a few days. I'll let you know what i find out. And no you won't see pictures from me either. No cameras allowed.
As far as credibility goes? Check my posts from November 2005, when i said I saw the 07 Tundra and that it will have 400hp and would pull 10000lbs. So i was out by 15hp, but when the head of Toyota's truck division tells you it will be 400hp, you tend to go with that.

SILVERadoTACOMA 09-06-2006, 04:41 PM Wow, you guys are harsh.
There's a difference between being harsh and naive. You'd be crazy to believe anything somebody randomly posts on an internet forum without proof to back it up. :D
As far as one truck beating another, have to see it myself. More horsepower doesn't always equal a win in the 1/4 mile. Things like transmission gear ratio and especially the rearend ratio can make a huge difference. If you have two exact trucks lined up together with the only difference being one with a 3.73 rear end and the other with a 3.23 rear end, the 3.73 will smoke the 3.23 (better acceleration) and will have a higher towing capacity but the 3.23 will get better highway mpg. Manufacturers always sway things so their vehicle is better (they ALL do it.) There's also a huge difference in HP and torque. What people who tow things will care about will be the TQ ratings on the new Tundra, not HP. I'm not going to walk into a Toyota dealership because their new TRUCk has a quick 1/4 mile time. Most truck buyers (especially now since poeple who don't need a truck are buying cars again for fuel mileage) are going to look at style, reliability/quality, fuel mileage and towing capacity.

You forgot payload. The Titan will pull 10000 lbs, but if you are, you have to take 1000lbs from your payload. That means you can only put another 300lbs in the truck. That includes people!
I didn't say anything in my post about HP and Torque being equal, or that you'd buy a Tundra based on HP or 1/4 mile. I'm just saying a similarily equiped Hemi WILL lose in the 1/4 mile.
A lot of what boi'si posted in the first post will now be common knowledge among US Toyota dealers. In a few days it will be in Canada as well. He didn't have all the info right, but he was on track.

HomeGrown 09-06-2006, 08:44 PM I was in that plant for the month of June, helping program weld robots.
NO, the plant is not 10 miles long, and there isn't 10 miles of assembly line. :whatthe:
There is nothing 10 miles can relate to in that plant, other than the speed limit in the parking lot. :D
Kevs Toy 09-06-2006, 09:23 PM I'm not doubting all the info provided but the story just got a bit tall at times. Also, Homegrown, I take it you work at TMMK as well? PM me with what area of the plant you're in if you do. Assembly 2 here.

HomeGrown 09-07-2006, 08:23 AM Long Live The Supra!!!! :D
toyotafanfan 09-07-2006, 03:42 PM Okay saw some new stuff today, here is the best of what I remember
2007 Tundra
-will have class leading torque, hp, payload, and towing capacity
-they've backed off on 385 HP and are now saying that for competitive reasons they won't be releasing HP numbers at this time. Just that there will be none higher
-Comes in 29 configurations
-3 models: Regular Cab, Access Cab, Mega Crew
-Saw a video of the Tundra vs. F150 in quarter mile. They raced them with no load, Tundra won handily. Raced them with 1500lbs payload: tundra won by a larger margin. Raced them with 1500lbs payload onboard and pulling an FJ on a trailer, Tundra won by a massive margin. In fact it was winning by such a large margin they decided to race the F150 with no load, and the Tundra with 1500lbs pounds on board, the Tundra still won.
-Most importantly they spoke of future models. The word is that a 3/4 ton is in development and may be seen as early as 3 years.
2008 Matrix (will be a 2009 model in q1 of 2008)
-Completely redesigned. looks like a very distant cousin to todays matrix. Still a 4 door hatch, but the side stile lines are disticnt throughout toyota's line. The front carries throuch with the ridges along the hood, but the sides were somewhat radical. It was very impressive.
-I believe they said the XRS will have a 2.4L CVT @15_ hp, other models will have 1.8L (don't remember the HP).
-This was the full size clay model, without engine or interior
2008 Corolla (will also be a 2009 model in q1 of 2008)
-this was the most surpising car of the bunch. I was expecting a clay model since it won't be released for almost 2 years, but they drove it on the stage!
-think of a mating between the 07 camry and 06 corolla. that's what I saw.
-I'm not sure, but I think the styling may still change. There was NO COUPE shown or officially mentioned, however the buzz is that one is still comming as a 2009 model year
-Corolla XRS will have same engine as the matrix. Others will get the 1.8L as well.
2008 Highlander (comming q2 of 2007)
-saw the full size clay model, no engine or interior.
-Will have a V6 with 285 HP
-Sleek lines, looks to have a wider stance.
-Has a hide away middle row seat between the 2nd row capatains chairs.
2008 Sequoia (comming q1 of 2008)
-Only pictures, no engine information
-looks like a 08 highlander on steriods.
Thats all i've got for now. I'll hopefully get to sit in the Corolla a little later.

ECHOKnight2000 09-07-2006, 05:30 PM ^^^^Thanks for the info! Man Toyota is really stepping up! I can't wait! Dang it! I just crapped myself from all that excitement!
Camread 09-08-2006, 08:46 AM so the XRS basically has the same hp as the camry's 2.4L? i don't get it..... even the XRS 1.8L has more hp than that.
Kevs Toy 09-08-2006, 10:10 PM WTF?! A 2AZ with a CVT for the XRS? Geeze, what a joke.
majortom1981 09-09-2006, 11:39 AM Whats wrong with a 215hp engine and a cvt transmission for the xrs?
Camread 09-09-2006, 12:43 PM Whats wrong with a 215hp engine and a cvt transmission for the xrs?
I believe they said the XRS will have a 2.4L CVT @15_ hp
nothing wrong w/215hp but he said it'll have 150-something hp....

I'll try to confirm that, It seems light to me too. I was trying to commit everything to memory, I may have gotten the hp wrong. I wasn't taking notes and they were bombarding the information!

Kevs Toy 09-09-2006, 11:09 PM Either way, that thing needs three pedals and a rev happy engine
So toyota is doing a Nissan approach with the Matrix/Corolla XRS? If its compelling enough Ill pick one up.
That reminds me, Wasn't there a thread from a year ago that Toyota was making a 2.4L four banger to rival Honda's K series engines? If this is it then I'm definitely in.
pjsammy 10-03-2006, 10:27 AM Either way, that thing needs three pedals and a rev happy engine
three pedals!! i'm not 100% sold on CVTs. I want a clutch still! not ready to let it go yet......i know I'm a dying bread. I'm in that 1-5% of toyota owners who want the stick! (witness two stick shift minivans and a V6 stick camry in the current fleet along w/ various other manual less rare yotas)
Trekie2 10-03-2006, 10:33 AM Hey...I still want the stick:eek: ........errrrr......that doesn't sound right:lol:
