Hi,
Just went to a Toyota/Scion showroom today. And a salesman told
me that there will be no 2007 Scion xB. Have anyone heard about
that? I was utterly surprised, for, according to all the news I have
read in the past year, the sales of xB's has been strong.....I have
just bought one for my wife last month, and she just absolutely
loves it very much!! If there are few xB's on the street, I am
concerned about getting aftermarket parts. Will I be able to get
a Haynes or Chilton manual for it later??
Thanks for any scoop...

Here's "more" on the drop of the Scion xB; basically it'll be replaced
with a different model. It's possible that if the new cars are using
the same chassis with some modifications there'll be a Chilton/Haynes
manual though, it took almost 10 years for me to get one for the
Festiva I had (once the Aspire was discontinued..since it was the same
car the manual is for both). Maybe they don't want it to turn into the
PT Cruiser (of which there is a glut on car lots right now after the
initial infatuation):

Typical Toyota move. They stopped making the Corolla FX 16, and the Tercel
wagon, despite how popular they were.
Go figure. By the sound of that article, the new ones sound really stupid.
Worse than the xBox.

The 2007s are already out!
I just saw them last week at the dealer I bought my tC at.

Interesting, since I went to my dealer today and there were two BRAND NEW
2007 xBoxes sitting on the lot.
Mid-year they will be replaced with a 'rounder' version based on the same
platform. the xA *may* be phased out in the US if sales don't increase;
Toyota was betting on the price of fuel to drive sales.
The tC will be rebadged the "Fuse" and will come with a 'stripper' version
for people that prefer to build their own, starting at ~$15,000: 16" steel
wheels, simple AM-FM-CD with no MP3 playback, etc.

My son wants one of those, and came really close to buying one. He's not
exactly financially stable enough (yet) for a brand new car. I convinced
him of that *this* time.

I bed they're not '07 models. Check again; they're '06 xB models.

The '08 models to replace the xA and xB will be coming sometime in
'07.
That was Toyota's plan all along; to not have any of the Scion models
last longer than three years. It keeps the excitement up (and makes my
xB hold its value even BETTER.)

I suppose it could. But I doubt Toyota would leave thousands of its
best customers stranded.
There's also a large aftermarket that caters to Scion owners. There is
a large group of them who like to modify, modify, modify their Scions.
In fact, my xB is somewhat rare already . . . because it's STOCK.
I hope that parts availability won't be a problem 'cause I plan to
keep driving my little box until its wheels fall off -- which should
be years and years 'cause it's a TOYOTA . . . .
Those of us who recognize what a brilliant car the xB is!

Any manufacturer selling cars in the US is required by Federal law to
maintain a parts supply for a minimum of seven years.
My Supra was built in '88 and parts are just beginning to become scarce
now. There were 16,700 built in 87, 16,400 built in 88, 15,850 built in
89, 15,000 built in 90. I think Scion has already exceeded those numbers.
Since the Scions are all based on other cars in the Toyota stable, some
sold here and some not, I don't think parts will be a problem for a LONG
time!
Don't worry...be happy!!

OK, there are a couple of approaches I could take:
1) To paraphrase Louis Armstrong, if you have to ask what I see in it
you'll never know.
2) It's CUTE . . . in a homely (not "ugly" and there is a difference)
sort of way.
But those aren't really good answers.
I didn't actually think too much of the xB until I sat in one and took
it for a test drive. Then I was hooked, in spite of how it looks,
'cause it's so PRACTICAL. It's tiny on the outside and HUGE on the
inside and it was CHEAP; only 15K bux, and it gets pretty good gas
mileage, and it's a HOOT to drive. The last car that I had that could
claim that was my '76 VW Rabbit, but the xB has it ALL OVER the Rabbit
in reliability -- it IS a Toyota, after all . . . !
I have NO regrets about buying this car, and it's extremely rare for
me to say something like that about a car.

Ah - that actually sounds like my attitude about my Echo. I didn't care
much for its looks, but I liked how it was to drive. Still do.

I think you've GOT it!
By Jove, you DO get it!!
I don't expect you to go out and trade your Echo for an xB, but the
next time you see some smart person driving their box on wheels,
you'll be able to understand why they chose that particular homely
vehicle . . . .

You can't really tell what it looks like when you're actually using
it. :-)
It seems to be an inexpensive, very practical vehicle for
urban/suburban driving. I'd call it a frugal choice.
xB owners probably take the money they save and buy themselves
vacations in Hawaii. Or maybe they buy something really beautiful like
a painting or sculpture. :-)

Good point!

Tha's me; Mr Frugal. (Please ignore my wife when she calls me a CHEAP
Bastard!)

Uhhhhh . . . no. What xB owners spend their money on is their xB!
There is an incredible variety of stuff being made to customize and
xB, and most xB owners I know go all out trying to make their xB stand
out.
I spend the extra money on motorcycle parts, trying to make my
motorcycle stand out, 'cause my perfectly stock xB already does.

I think they're butt-ass ugly, "looks like the box it came in" - and
lowering them, making them sound like coffee cans full of angry bees and all
of the other abominations owners commit only makes them uglier. But hey,
different strokes... <G>

Who remembers when cars had tail fins

Mike Hunter 09-21-2006, 03:40 PM What is up with Scion? They are indeed standing out. Look around at the
used car lots, and other brands used car lots. There are an inordinate
amount of Scions on use car lots, particularly the xB(ox,) considering the
small numbers sold in the short time it has been on the US market.

Hey, I'm used to the same comments about my Echo, actually, but the xBox is
too fugly even for *my* warped taste.

Oh my...
I was born while there were still fins (1958), so I've seen them. But they
were considered retro by the time I knew what a car was.
