Toyota Auris Concept @ Paris Auto Show

Designed from the inside out” is how Toyota describes its new Auris space concept, revealed for the first time at the Paris Motor Show. This world debut signals a new interpretation of the core Toyota design philosophy of Vibrant Clarity, combining a forward-looking and energetic appearance with a clear and rational approach to providing driver and passengers with a spacious and highly practical environment. Wahei Hirai, Toyota Global Design Managing Officer explains: “The Auris space concept is tall and spacious. The high waistline, short overhangs and forward balance of the cabin architecture ensure it retains a sense of dynamism and agility, a quality we call perfect imbalance.”

Auris has a high quality interior, featuring an innovative sculpted, bridged centre console that is both elegant and practical, bringing the gearlever and other controls up to the perfect ergonomic height. This leaves an open section in the lower part of the console that increases the sense of space around the driver and front seat passenger.

The inside-out concept can also be witnessed in the panoramic glass roof, the flat rear passenger floor and high window surfaces, all of which contribute to the overall sense of interior light and space. The exterior is characterised by a powerful front-end treatment with strong vertical lines, wide shoulders and short overhangs, with sports-styled 19-inch alloy wheels, freeform geometric lamps, prominent brake callipers and deep rear bumper with integrated chrome exhausts adding to the dynamic look.

The striking gold exterior paint finish and interior piping reflect the car’s name, aurum being the Latin word for gold. The result is a concept with which Toyota aims to reflect both the shift in values of customers in the C segment and its own optimistic brand attitude.

Love that interior design. . Not a fan of the red dash lights though.
One question. On the left hand gauge, what's info does it display in the middle? It looks like a bar graph in the picture. The center console reminds me a lot of the last gen Celica model.

This looks very much like the 2009 matrix with a few changes.

The upslope at the back of the rear passenger door is closer to the center pillar between the doors. The nose is also longer. The rear is almost identical.

Nice Car!!!! My question is why are all Toyota's starting to look like the Yaris?

Remember that thing about "Vibriant Clariety?" No? Anyway that's Toyota's new design philosophy so you're going to start seeing that on future models, it started with the Yaris and I believe the new Camry has some of its cues...I think Toyota is applying this to their cars only (of course variation to what ever car that is) but I could be mistaken. Its to create a corporate identity, sort of like Dodge slaps a truck grill on every thing they come out with which IMO is not the best, I think it works for some but no every car...that's another topic.

I do like how the rear exhaust pipes are intergraded, nice! Sharp looking car though.

that's the corolla hatch that will be sold in Europe and Japan. Hopefully we get it here as a replacement for the Matrix.

Take a look at the real model (non computer made images):
http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stories/1154/

I would have said the light are a bit overdone while the front looks too plain in the middle, but seeing the pictures at topgear.com it looks awesome. May that interior be unchanged for production!

Oh really? You didn't update that other thread about the Corolla and Matrix that you were gonna see. Any coupes?

I posted most of the info on the show in the tundra forum, also some in a corolla thread, don't remember wich one.

Nope no coupe. It was very strange, I was sure I would see one. I did see the 2009 corolla 4dr, but it was fully operational. What was strange to me (and others) is, how can a production model be ready now, yet they'd hold it back for almost 24 months. It doesn't make sense. The 09 matrix and 08 highlanders were both engine and interior free full size models. The 09 Sequoia was only in pictures. The corolla didn't seem to make sense. My gut tells me the hold back of the model is to design a coupe.

Damn that a beautiful car. I'm loving it, first thing I thought when I saw it was Yaris. If this is the new Corolla, then I don't think they will have a problem selling.

This is NOT the 09 matrix, however it is very similar to what I saw. I saw it at a private show.

It looks like a Engine Temp and Fuel bar graph style guage in between the tach on that picture you were talking about!

whats up with Top Gear saying the Auris will go on sale at the starting of 2007 in the UK, is there any truth to this?

Toyota insiders tell us a hot hatch version will follow about a year after the Auris goes on sale at the start of 2007 in the UK.

And are we still presuming the Auris that is supposedly going on sale in the UK is the Corolla

The Auris replaces the Corolla in Europe in the beginning of next year.

The Auris will not replace the American Corolla nor the (Corolla) Matrix just as it will not replace the (Corolla) Verso in Europe.

It might however give some hints to the design direction Toyota is heading to with the other models.
