airbag warning light

I have a 1994 Toyota Camry on which the airbag warning light on the dash is remaining on. I did a diagnostic trouble code check by connecting terminals Tc and E1 on the DLC2. I was able to extract the code DTC No. 11, which is a short in squib circuit or front airbag sensor circuit (to ground). This would have been the result of me not knowing that all Yellow wires belong to the SRS system and I stuck my test light into one of them by the glove box when I was looking for a wire that had power in it.

Do I have to do anything to repair or fix this error code or is it just a matter of clearing it from the computer?

Any suggestions or answers would be greatly appreciated.

#1, put a piece of eletrical tape on it so nothing else short.

SRS system is one thing I have not messed with much. IF the system is OK, the SRS light SHOULD go off when the car is turned on next time. I had to replace a bad center SRS sensor (One under the center storage unit), and when the car was turned on next, light went off. Have you turned the car back on SINCE this 1st happened?

Yes I have had the car turned back on since this happened because it had been about two weeks since it happened. The light is still staying on.

Ok, unhook the battery for a few hours to drain the system, and after unhooking the battery, turn the headlights on to really drain the system fast. MAYBE with some luck, this will clear it. If not, there is a more serious problem.

I tried unhooking the battery a few days ago and that solved absolutely nothing. Seeing that there was a code 11 meaning it was shorted out does that mean I would have to replace one of the sensors?

Honestly, SRS system is prolly the worst theing in your car to deal with. I have no idea. Somebody on here should know, and hopefully be able to help you. :)

You need more detailed info. Click on the link below and find the service data for your Camry generation. Suggest using caution, as the airbags are explosive devices. The airbag light being on indicates the system is not working.

if it's an actual short, you may be in a lot of trouble to find where it exactly is...


BUT it could also just be because you crossed the wires when you were testing them, so it detected a temporary short.

Did you see any sparks or smell any burning when you did it?



and the reason why your light isn't resetting is because you can't reset the SRS light by pulling the battery. The only way to reset it is by jumping the diagnostic terminals.

I've reset the light before myself 2 times, but the last time it went off I couldn't turn it off so I took it to my mechanic. He turned it off with one try using my strut bar as a ground.

If it's not going off, that means the problem is still there, so therefore, upon next SRS test (Next time key is turned to ON), it will still read the error.

There was no sparks or nothing burning. When I probed the wires "accidentally", because i din't know they were the airbag wires, it didn't even light up my test light bulb. Like I said in an earlier post I got an error code 11. I don't think there is anything wrong with the system unless by probing those wires it blew one of the sensors. Last night I tried clearing the error code exactly the way it is shown by silver streak but I didn't have any success. Maybe I wasn't using a good enough ground. What would you suggest as being a good ground to use?

I used the Diagnostic port under my dash, and grounded it to the ignition cylinder.

i as well have an airbag light that stays on... ever since my clock fuse blew, I took fuses out to determine which one was for the clock, and I had taken the airbag one out and put it back in, the light has been on and wont go off... I don't know what to do
