Hi. I need a new transmission for my 1990 Toyota pickup. I was wondering if maybe a 1987 transmission from the same truck would fit and how I can figure out if it would? Or any suggestions on cheap places that rebuild transmissions or any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Look on the tag either on the drivers door or on the firewall under the hood and check the bottom row of numbers on the tag for either a "G52" or a "W56". This will determine which trans you have and most trucks with fuel injection have the "W56" and carb engines usually have the "G52" depending on the year. The basic difference in these are the shifter locations. A "W56" from a 1986-94 or newer should be the same as you have. All you might have to change would be the speedo gear as its electronic on the 92 and later, but you parts will fit.
