Currently I do not have the map lights that one gets when they ordered the SR5 package. Does anyone know if they are prewired for them and how I would go about installing them? Thanks!

putting map lights in my T100peterdaniel 12-14-2006, 12:10 AM Currently I do not have the map lights that one gets when they ordered the SR5 package. Pete BamZipPow 11-24-2008, 03:07 AM Fer anyone looking to do this...I decided to pull my map light out and see what it would take to put one in to a T-100 that didn't have them. It seems that you will need the map light unit and the 4 screws. Two are machine fine threaded screws and the other 2 are some coarse threaded screws. I'm gonna say that the fine threaded screws are the same fer the basic mirror w/o the map lights. http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/th_IMG_4248.jpg (http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/?action=view¤t=IMG_4248.jpg) It looks like if you don't have the wire fer the light, look carefully. It seems to be part of the standard roof wiring. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_199210_TOYOTA_T100_VCK10L-TRSSEA_8202.2.html It looks like it would be easy to remove as it's plugged in directly into the fuse box and runs along the left side of the A pillar and then across the roof. It's just a simple 2 wire plug in to the back of the map light assembly and that's pretty much it. You will have to cut the headliner in an "X" fer each dish areas fer the light assembly to recess into. I'm not sure if holes have to be drilled fer the 2 coarse screws or not. If you do, I'm gonna venture you should take it slow so you don't punch through the roof...cause that would be a bad thing. :( http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/th_IMG_4231.jpg (http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/?action=view¤t=IMG_4231.jpg) To remove the map light, pop the small cover off first. http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/th_IMG_4234.jpg (http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/?action=view¤t=IMG_4234.jpg) Then carefully remove the main cover by working it around the edges. http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/th_IMG_4236.jpg (http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/?action=view¤t=IMG_4236.jpg) Remove the 4 screws. The finer thread screws are nearest the mirror while the coarse screws are closer to the switches. http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/th_IMG_4232.jpg (http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/bamzippow/T100/?action=view¤t=IMG_4232.jpg) When you remove the basic mirror, check to see if the power cable is there fer the map light. If it is, yer in luck. If not, yer gonna have to pull the roof wire harness from either the donor truck or order it from the dealer...and I'm gonna guess it's not gonna be cheap. Part number should be 82171‑34020 This is a good to know if you have the basic truck and decide to add the map light assembly. :D nmmountainman 12-03-2008, 09:42 PM Just found a used mirror with map lights for $35. Its on its way and hopefully I can put everythingtogether as well. I am super excited! Now if only I could find a used sunroof and superchager!:naughty: BamZipPow 12-04-2008, 01:53 PM Did you check to see if you already have the power cable in there? I'm curious... ;) nmmountainman 12-05-2008, 12:33 AM I've been just too busy. I saw the used map lights listed and thought I had better jump on them asap. I figured if the wiring is there great, if not I can run my own, I am fairly capable working with electrical. I'll post more when they come in and when I have the opportunity to work on it. nmmountainman 12-13-2008, 06:29 PM So I tore everything down to install the map light mirror assy. Unfortunately there is no plug convienently located next to the mirror mount. I took most the headliner down in search of the plug, but it just wasn't there. So I traced the wires running up the driver A pillar up to the dome light. There are 4 wires running up the A pillar; green, cream, black and black w/ a white line. The two black wires run to the dome light and the green and cream go back to the brake light on the rear of the cab. So I needed to figure out which black wire had constant power to it and which was the door trigered wire. I was anticipating both being positive and the door trigger as the switch for the positive to the dome light in door mode. Turns out the solid black wire is constant positive power while the black wire with a white line is actually a ground trigered by the door switch (door opens it connects the ground, door closes it opens the ground and the dome light goes out). So I spliced into the solid black wire and ran a wire to the map light mirror assy. Unfortunately my map light wasn't sent with the attaching clip that plugs into it or the 4 bolts. You can reuse the two fine threaded bolts from mirror assy that doesn't have the map lights but you still need the course threaded bolts. So I will call the salvage yard and see if they can send the 4 bolts and if they are willing to cut the wire harness to give me the clip. I'll post pics later. nmmountainman 12-14-2008, 01:16 AM pic1- after old mirror taken out pic2- cut holes for new mirror pic3- maplight mirror screwed in w/ 2 screws from old assy, have power wire hanging out pic4- black wires after spliting apart from each other pic5- cut solid black wire pic6- spliced maplight power wire into solid black power wire that goes to dome light http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights002.jpg http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights012.jpg http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights021.jpg http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights015.jpg http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights019.jpg http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights020.jpg nmmountainman 12-24-2008, 07:58 PM so the pigtail for the maplight came in along with the 4 needed screws or I guess I should say the course threaded ones that I didn't have. The pigtail came in not pluging into my maplight correctly, the notch was on the wrong side as you can see from the second pic. I took a blade to it and cut it to fit. All is complete and it works well. I thought this was a great thread and feel good about my contribution to it. Anyone can install one of these maplights and as you can see it is very easy. The maplight cost $40 and the pigtail was $25. So a little elbow grease and $65 and you to can have a maplight. http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights001-1.jpg http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights003.jpg http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights004.jpg BamZipPow 02-08-2009, 11:04 PM I just noticed something...what year did they stop putting the middle switch in? I know I have one in my 1993 T-100...it's to allow the map lights to come on when you open the door...pretty handy. ;) :D 65riv 02-08-2009, 11:53 PM BZP, hey what a coincidence. In prepping my 92 pickup for sale, I noticed it's map lights (which I put in after pulling them from a boneyard 94 4Runner) have the middle switch, but my 96 T SR5 does not. Would be nice to have that center/door switch on the T, esp since they only put a floor light on the driver's side. Then I noticed that the Ts glovebox doesn't have a light either, although I can see the rectangular hole for the plunge switch. Would like to hear if any others out there with SR5 Ts have glovebox lights and passenger side entry light (the one that would be in the 'under the glovebox' area. Maybe before I sell the 92, I'll pull the maplight and see whether a) they bolt up to the 96 T and b) whether the existing wiring has a door lead. Riv BamZipPow 02-09-2009, 01:19 AM I have the glovebox light as well...really don't like it because I keep it open all the time and at night it kinda really bugs me. :( Oh...I also have the passenger floor light, too. :D I'm thinking about putting the 16 SMT LED replacement bulbs in there from www.V-leds.com but I'm not sure if these (http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/5767433/vpcsid/0/SFV/32481) are the right size or not...31mm? BamZipPow 02-09-2009, 01:26 AM Oh...BTW...if you have the loose mirror syndrome...you can take care of it by adding some strips of cardboard (cereal box type) in-between the break away rods and the mirror shaft. Only one screw holds it in place. You can see the rods (zig-zag pattern) in this piccie: http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr5/nmmountainman/maplights003.jpg Danno_MN 02-10-2009, 01:03 AM I just noticed something...what year did they stop putting the middle switch in? Danno, studiously ignoring the wiring diagram....:smokin: BamZipPow 02-10-2009, 05:53 AM Yes...that would only come stock on the SR5 trim. I guess you could hunt down some 4Runners that have the middle switch and see if you can snag those instead... ;) You'd have to pull yer map light down and look at the wiring plug and see if it has 2 wires hooked up to it. If it does...I'm gonna venture that you can do a plug and play on the setup...but I'd still check the wiring and voltages with a voltmeter to be on the safe side... ;) BamZipPow 02-10-2009, 03:49 PM Does it have any manual books?... I guess the factory electrical manual would have the complete wiring specs...so yes. But that is a separate book in itself. ;) | |
