pillpusher84 01-08-2007, 01:05 AM I have received numerous requests for how to make the v06.1 Navi DVD w/ the version 5.1 override capability. You will need to author a Dual Layer DVD+R w/ all the files from your v6.1 NAV DVD & replace the v6.1 loading .kwi w/ the v5.1 loading.kwi in the main directory of the DVD.
I just uploaded the loading.kwi file, and you can find the loading.kwi file here:
http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=255527 (http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=255527)
Look for the download button in the mess of all the ads ... sorry needed free file hosing for a 46MB file & this is the best I could do!
once you burn this new "hybrid" DVD, you can do the volume screen service menu procedure to get to the override button!
Good Luck ... this took a few tries to get it right, but I can verify that this procedure DOES Work ... I have been running this "hybrid" dvd now for about a month now on my XLE w/ no problems!!!:whatwhat:
wireless 01-08-2007, 06:41 AM OK, so I got my new disc from Denso thanks to the dealer calling it in under the TSB. When I got my car, I immediately tried ot override, and it would not work. Now I am in the process of burning a hybrid, but I notice something interesting. The disc says "Data Version 5.1" on the bottom of it. I did note, however, that the loading.kwi file is 71 MB on the new disc.
Hmm, I wonder if they are also sending out v.5.1 discs with a locked down revision to the loading.kwi file? I am also going to ask why I didn't get a v.6.1 disc since that is the latest revision of map data.
Pill: What is the size fo your alldata.kwi file on 6.1? My new disc says 2.24 GB.
07camryxle 01-08-2007, 08:28 AM Excuse my ignaroance, but how do I do this? You mentioned that I needed to reauthort my 6.1 DVD. What does that mean? Do you have step by step procedures to use? I know how to burn a DVD and Download your file, but beyond that I am lost.
Sorry :(

Sorry :(
It is just burning it. It will require a dual layer DVD burner and a dual layer DVD. By re-author he means you need to swap out the loading.kwi file. By changing the file, you are no longer merely burning, you are re-authoring the files. Make sense?
kriskraut 01-08-2007, 09:07 AM I don't have a dual layer DVD burner, just a standard one that is on my laptop. So, can you "send" us a disk for "free" ?:-) ?
07camryxle 01-08-2007, 09:47 AM Thanks for the clarification. What would be the procedures for swapping out the two files. Do I just delete the original file and insert the one that I downloaded.
Now I need a dual layer DVD burner...Off the circuit city; unleass someone wants to sell me one that they created :)
smilepak 01-08-2007, 12:30 PM What software are you using to re-author it?
Do you first extract the 6.1 disc to a local folder on the HD, replace the load file, and use something like NERO to burn a new disc?
To to the inital extract of the 6.1 disc, do you just copy from DVD to HD or a software have to extract it?

I'm sorry ... but there is no way to prove that you own the v06.1 DVD, so by me sending out copies to people, I would be condoning FRAUD ... and I DO NOT condone software piracy!
I will however supply everyone with the v05.1 LOADING.KWI file, which is all that is necessary to mke yourself the new DVD w/ the OverRide Capability!
If you do not own a Dual Layer DVD Burner, I suggest that you go out and purchase one. 1. Copy all file from v6.1 dic to a folder on your Hard Drive
2. Replace the LOADING.KWI in the folder on your hard drive w/ the one I've provided!
3. Use Nero (or your favorite software) to create a DATA DVD (Dual Layer of Course)
4. Add all the files from your folder to the DVD & BURN IT.
5. Remove your old NAV DVD & replace it w/ the freshly burned DVD into your NAVI (in car).
6. Do the volume screen override
Press Menu
(menu screen appears)
Press Volume
(volume screen appears)
Press upper left corner
Press lower left corner
Press upper left corner
Press lower left corner
(Service Menu will appear)
Press and hold Over Ride for a few seconds
NOTE: If you are unable to get the SERVICE MENU up w/ the above procedure, this means you are still running v06.1 firmware ... please disconnect your NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL & let the car sit for about 5 minutes ... then reconnect. This will clear out the NAVI's memory & when it comes back on, it will have to reload the firmware from your newly burned DVD, then the procedure should work!!
07camryxle 01-08-2007, 05:15 PM I have a BENQ DW1620 Pro DVD Burner. The box says 4X 8.5GB Double Layer Over Speed Burning. Does that mean I have a dual layer burner?

kennyc7373 01-09-2007, 02:17 PM Thanks! For the useful info. I will try it this week.
josh_carter 01-09-2007, 08:40 PM Might be a dumb noob question.. I just drove my car (07 ES 350) off the lot 3 weeks ago. When I go to the menu and select the map DVD button then hit the eject disk spot, I get a note that says there is no disk (I hear the sound of it searching for disk) but nothing ejects.
Do the new cars come with a DVD disk or is the software pre-loaded without a disk backup?
If it is a dumb question..please be kind....
Josh

If you have NAV, there should be a disc in the DVD slot.
mattbar1 01-09-2007, 09:26 PM I have been working on this most of the day. This "hack" does work, not that I doubted it but in case someone else says it doesnt work, I am here to say it does.
However, I did have some trouble.
For some reason the DVD drive in the car will not read Office Depot brand DVD+R DL disks. Dont know why. After wasting about 10 Office depot disks, and trying two different DL burners, this is the hardware, software and media that worked for me...
LG GSA-E10L External DVD Burner
Verbatim DVD+R DL disks
Nero 7 Software
Burning the Office Depot disks with my dell DL drive, the data would show up on the disk (looking at it with my computer) but the car would simply say "unable to read disk" or Not a valid navigation disk.
This was very frustrating. Hopefully it works for everyone else on your first try.
Thanks a bunch to pillpusher84, his research and efforts have been a huge help.
wireless 01-09-2007, 09:51 PM Hmm, my Dell laptop has a Sony DL DVD burner. I wonder if mine will work.
I am also wondering about the fact that my 'new' disc says "Data version 5.1"
mattbar1 01-09-2007, 10:00 PM Mine too is a Sony rebadged as a Dell drive. Good Luck.

Hey --
I checked the alldata.kwi & file size of the v6.1 is 2.23GB
It is going to say data version 5.1 because the firmware (Loading.kwi) is still the v6.1, but the map data is the new map data v6.1
All this "hack" is doing is using the new v6.1 map data, but retaining the v5.1 firmware, which doesn't have the service menu disabled, and hence still allows us access to the override button.

What I mean by 'new disc' is the one I got from the dealer last week. It says 5.1 on the label.

I got ya ... I myself asked the dealer to order the new DVD under the TSB ... they gave me BS that it was backordered and I said fine ... order it & call me when it comes in ... to this day ... still on backorder according to them!
I think the whole TSB is bull ... My car has never shown up in the wrong place on the map .. and if it does ... all you have to do is recalibrate the GPS ... no need for a new disc.
My thoughts are that Toyota knows that people found access to the Service Menu & I believe that this TSB is their "fix" to prevent them from lawsuits. As far as the data version is concerned ... they are only replacing teh disc that was "defective" ... so they are replacing the v5.1 w/ an "updated" v5.1 ... you honestly didn't expect them to give you the milk for free when they could sell you the cow !!

why not? I'm sure someone will want it. Same Navi unit as the Solara & the 4runner. I'm sure one of those vehicle owners would want it
eredleaf 01-11-2007, 11:11 PM Like Mattbar1, I am having trouble burning a readable disk. I am using the Nero software that came with my external dual layer DVD drive. I am using Memorex DVD+R DL media. I will go out and buy some Verbatim disks tomorrow, but I am curious if there are any details to burning this that I could have omitted.
After replacing the loading.kwi file the new disk contained 212 files in 7 folders with a total size of 7,8803569,167 bytes. This exactly matches the original DVD adjusting for the difference in the file size of the one file that is different.
One thing I did that I was not certain of was I gave the disk the name: 464210-0790A which was how my original DVD shows up. No one mentioned the disk name, so perhaps this is not important. When I put the DVD in the car, it first says no DVD is inserted and then it says something like. Cannot read the Maps DVD, see your dealer.
I tried the trick of disconnecting the negative supply to force a reload, but it still could not read the disk. I put in the orignal disk and it said loading for a while and then was back to version 6.1.
Anyway, before I try burning different media brands, I was wondering if anyone has suggestions.
Thanks
shotofwine 01-12-2007, 12:15 AM I'm in the same boat but I think what you have to do is burn the disk in iso/udf format.
I'm doing this now but it's taking a long time to burn.
I'll post tomorrow if this works or even if it doesnt.
GETTING LATE!!!
shotofwine 01-12-2007, 07:39 AM ok, didn't work
what are you guys doing to get over the 2gig file that says you need to do a udf thingy?
mattbar1 01-12-2007, 10:49 AM I still am unsure why some disks work and others don't. UDF mode should be used because that is the format of the original disk. Like I said I went through at least ten disks trying different disk names, same name as original disk, different software settings, etc. I could not find a trend.
07camryxle 01-12-2007, 12:56 PM I did exactly as i was supposed to and it did not work. I used a Memorex DVD+R DL. the nav says unable to read disk. My only questions is, I cahnged the name of 5.1 file, does it have to be Loading.kwi
mattbar1 01-12-2007, 01:03 PM I am not exactly sure what you mean by your question, but if you are asking can you change the name of ANY of the files on the disk and have it still work. The answer is no.
Copy your 6.1 disk to a folder, and move the loading.kwi file to a different folder and change the name of that file to something like 'originalloading.kwi'. Download the replacement loading.kwi to somewhere on your computer, and then copy this downloaded file to the same folder that you copied your disk, resulting in all the same names of files in that folder as before. The only change is that instead of about 71 megs for the loading.kwi file its now 46megs.
Burn the new disk (the hit or miss part).
07camryxle 01-12-2007, 02:12 PM i am going to re-copy my nav disc and re-download the file. has anyone gotten this to work with anything but a verbatum disc?
Thanks to everyone for your help.
mattbar1 01-12-2007, 02:36 PM Troubleshooting tip...
If you havent yet tried to create the 'new' disk with the downloaded file try this:
Get your 6.1 disk and just create a back-up of that disk, using dvd/disk copy. Dont try changing any files or renaming stuff just create a backup disk.
If this works then you know atleast the drive and blank disks you are useing will work in the car.
Once that works, then you can proceed with replacing files, with confidence.
If this does not work, then you can focus on getting a drive, software and blank media that will work.
The verbatim disk worked for me, this does not mean you must use these disks...I am sure many brands will work.
eredleaf 01-12-2007, 09:11 PM I tried making the DVD using the Verbatim DVD+R DL. My burner does not have a choice of UDF mode it. It has advanced choices of Clear archive bits of written files during ISO refresh. It has a choice of Data disk or bootable data disk. I choice just Data disk. You can get disk information and I see that the original disk says:
Track 01: 0 7,723,072 KB, UDF/ISO 9660 (Mode 1) Whereas my copy says
Track 01: 0 7,697,440 KB, UDF (Mode 1)
I just copied the files from the DVD to my Hard drive, then copied LOADING.KWI to that folder and said it is ok to replace it. Then I selected all the files and burned the new disk.
I was very hopeful that the Verbatim disks would work, but it seems to be something in how the burner is configured that is causing the disks to not work correctly.
Any suggestions? Having seen the prior message that setting the mode to UDF/ISO didn't work makes me think it is more than this anyway.
What about the archive bit, does that matter?
What about the DVD name, what have people who have done this successfully used for the DVD name?
Any suggestions?
07camryxle 01-13-2007, 09:23 PM eredleaf I feel your pain. I have done the exact same as you, and the nav still says disc is unreadable. I even went out and bought a new DVD burner and still not luck. I have ruined 5 DVD's sa far.
I too would love some help :)
07camryxle 01-14-2007, 11:56 AM bump
eredleaf 01-14-2007, 01:01 PM I would love people who have burned readable DVDs to post details of what they did (i.e. configuration settings) and hardware / software and media they used.
I was going to try to Find the LG GSA-E10L external DVD burner that Mattbar successfully used.
My latest failed attempt was using Prassi Ones software, following a procedure I saw on the lexus forum. They said they used this software with Memorex media, so that is what I used for this attempt. I was able to burn a disk with this software that says it is UDF/ISO 9660 format, but it is still not readable in my Sienna.
Using Nero 7 burning rom it will not let me add Alldata.kwi with a UDF/ISO 9660 compilation. It says files over 2 GB are not allowed in ISO, use UDF. I had a previously faiiled attempt using nero express which created a UDF disk, so I did not burn another disk from Nero Burning rom.
I also thought that perhaps the order of the files mattered although that is probably a silly thought, but just in case I did make one disk with LOADING.KWI as the first file in the compilation. This didn't help.
Another thing I was thinking about trying was to edit the alldata file in a hex editor and create a version of this file that just has a little bit of the data. Then all the files would fit on a single layer DVD. I know it wouldn't work for navigation, but I thought the cars Navigation would at least attempt to load the system if it could read the disk (i.e. I would see loading rather than cannot read Map DVD or no disk installed). That would let me test many configurations at about $0.20 a disk instead of $3 a disk. I have not done this yet.
shotofwine 01-15-2007, 12:43 AM so far I've made coasters on 5 verbatims, 2 sonys and 3 memorex's
I've tried burning an ISO and a UDF and got nothing
ANYONE CARE TO ASSIST US?!
07camryxle 01-15-2007, 10:40 AM I have now purchased three DVD burners and have ruined 9 disks and still nothing. This is getting expensive. Someone PLEASE help us!!!!
07camryxle 01-15-2007, 04:03 PM Mattbar1,
I just sent you a PM. I just purchased the LG burner that you used and the Verbatum discs and still can not get it to work. Can you help me out?
mattbar1 01-15-2007, 07:21 PM Folks,
In my posts I say everything that I have done. I didnt change any settings or do anything our of the ordinary. I did use UDF. A disk copy should copy everything exactly like it is on the other disk to the new one...
I am out of suggestions.
shotofwine 01-15-2007, 07:37 PM problem is, I've tried that on 3 different brands of disks
all w/o success
thanks for the info tho
*I have been trying this using Nero and I just got a hold of Roxio. If I can't get it to work
using Roxio than I am at wits end.
Maybe it only works on systems that originally had the 5.1 to begin with.?.?.?
mattbar1 01-15-2007, 08:08 PM My car was built in December, it has always had 6.1
07camryxle 01-15-2007, 09:29 PM Hoe did you copy the nav disk to your hard drive?
Meerkat 01-20-2007, 08:56 AM Two more questions:
1) Does this work o.k. with the TCH NAV system (no display issues)?
2) After doing the DVD "upgrade", do you still have to go thru the sequence of overriding the lock EVERY TIME you turn the off/on ?
Yes - thanks Pillpusher84 for your insight and help.
black88mx6 01-21-2007, 12:26 PM Ok, I have also had problems with UDF/ISO disc creation. Here are the steps that I have done so far.
Create a backup of the original 6.1 disc using Nero. Verify that you can read backup disc by using the NAV system with it. If this works you know that you media is good. I am using Verbatium DVD+R DL 8x discs.
Next copy the original disc to a directory on your hard disk. Replace the "loading.kwi" file. User standard windows drag and drop from the DVD.
*** Nero can't write an UDF/ISO 9660 version 3 DVD (with 2gb+ files), only a verison 2 DVD. I am pretty sure that this is where most are running into problems. I just downloaded a program called "ImgBurn" this can write a UDF/ISO 9660 verion 3 DVD correctly.
Download and install ImgBurn, set mode to "Build" Select source and point it to the backup directory of the NAV disc that is on your hard disk. Tell it YES that it is the root directory for the image content.
Verify that file system under the options tab is ISO9660 + UDF, and recurse subdirs.
Add the UDF label to name the disc under the lables tab.
Press button to "build" ISO image. Give it a name.
Use NERO or other software to burn image on to DVD+R DL disk with book type of DVD-ROM. Book type for nero can be set under "Choose Recorder", Options, Book type settings.
Test disc in NAV system without pulling power yet. The NAV system will be able to read all the data on disc and give you POI's and new locations. The updated disc is now readable.
*** I have yet to complete this step - it is way too cold ***
Next you pull fuse or neg battery cable for the 5 min. Then re-attach. Nav should pull new firmware and boot.
Let me know how this works for you.
Annapolis_SE 01-22-2007, 07:33 AM black88mx6 - how are you copying the disk to the HD. Nero only allows a data dvd disk copy and holds the data in a buffer. when I tried to drag and drop the files. the folder and the disk aren't the same size? any suggestions? I'm almost there. the disk copy worked 6.1 to 6.1 but I cant get it to read the hybrid disk.
07camryxle 01-22-2007, 10:14 AM I too am in your same boat. I was able to copy the disk, but I have not been able to swap the Loading file and have the disk work. Also, I noticed that when I copy the good disk to my hardrive and re-burn it,the file is smaller. The only was I was able to make an exact disk was to copy directly from one disk to the other.

You copy to the HD from the original navigation DVD by using standard drag and drop into a directory that you create. The size of the files in this directory will match the number and size of the files on the DVD until you move the new "loading.kwi" file.

Annapolis_SE 01-22-2007, 02:15 PM the drag and drop file size is different for the disc. The version I downloaded is 2.1.0.0
It's main website is here http://www.imgburn.com/ I am in no way associated with this program. I did read up on how to create a version 3 UDF/OSI on cdfreaks and this is what they recomended.
I am unable to troubleshoot why you can't get imgburn it to run. Make sure you have the proper rights and such to load software on your system. I do know that I an create a ISO with imgburn then I use Nero to burn to DVD+R DL DVD disc that works in my 07 NAV.
07camryxle 01-22-2007, 02:38 PM i just downloaded ImgBurn on my laptop. I am going to try your exact instruction right now. I hope it works.

Use imgburn to create the ISO, then use Nero or other burning software to take the ISO and burn the DVD.
07camryxle 01-22-2007, 02:53 PM So the ImgBurn is just going to creare the files? I then need to burn thos files to a DVD, correct?
black88mx6 01-22-2007, 03:05 PM So the ImgBurn is just going to creare the files? I then need to burn thos files to a DVD, correct?
ImgBurn will create 1 file. This file, a "yourfilename.ISO", is the layout of the entire DVD. You can then use Nero; point Nero to that ISO using the Burn Image function, and that will then finish the creation of the DVD for you.
07camryxle 01-22-2007, 03:35 PM when you created the file using ImgBurn. it says i can browse a file or browse or folder. Should I see each of the files or should it just list the main directory?
black88mx6 01-22-2007, 03:37 PM when you created the file using ImgBurn. it says i can browse a file or browse or folder. Should I see each of the files or should it just list the main directory?
You should just point it to your main directory. When you go to use the "build" option. It will ask if this is your root directory. Say yes, and it will grab all files and folders under your root directory to create the DVD.
07camryxle 01-22-2007, 03:39 PM i just sent you anothe PM...Sorry forall the questions.
black88mx6 01-22-2007, 08:28 PM Today I pulled the neg battery cable, with my hybrid disc in the NAV unit and it did reload back to the older firmware that allows the NAV over-ride on my 07. While this is good, be aware that the the firmware was much smaller from the original 5.1 disc. This may mean that with the older firmware you might not be able to get SAT radio (that would be my first gusss) or other things added to the 07. Since I am not going to get SAT radio, I went ahead and did this and will run it until such a time as other solutions are found for the newer firmware. Hope this helps anyone else trying to do this.
07camryxle 01-22-2007, 08:57 PM Well I am happy to see I DID IT!!!!!!!!! The disk works GREAT. Thanks Black88MX6 you were a great help!
I will let you know about the SAT radio, as this is the next thing I am having installed. I hope I can have the best of both worlds.
Annapolis_SE 01-23-2007, 02:51 PM I have made it through the step "verify that the file system..." above, but can't figure out "add the udf label"? I left it blank and when I clicked burn it made an xxx.ISO file and an XXX.mso file. I tried to use Nero burning rom but it told me it can't copy files larger the 2g. the ISO file was 7.G. what am I doing wrong. I know I'm close. Thanks
07camryxle 01-23-2007, 08:12 PM Mine works fine with a TDK DVD+R DL disk

black88mx6 01-23-2007, 08:15 PM Use nero's "burn image" option and point it to the .iso file you created. It will then burn the disc.

mine created two files .iso and . mso. I put them both on the disc using Nero and it didn't work. The disk is unreadable. My disk copy using nero express burned a backup of 6.1 with no problems.

This is posted right above your message.
Use nero's "burn image" option and point it to the .iso file you created. It will then burn the disc. You didn't use that option.
Annapolis_SE 01-24-2007, 08:38 PM Here is what I've done. I was able to make a complete copy of my 6.1 disk using Nero and it is my working backup in the car right now.
I can't get the hybrid disk to work.
I have reread and recreated the image using imgburn. still nothing. the steps I took were mode / build. souce was c:\ new folder (where I copied the disk to and replaces the loading file)I clicked the options tab and selected ISO9660 +UDF and then checked Recurse subdirectories. clicked Labels tab and typed toyota in the udf volume label. then I clicked the build button. I saved the image in a folder called toyota on c:\ and named the image toyota.iso. received the pop up You've only selected 1 folder ... does new folder represent the root directory for the image content? I clicked yes. and the toyota.iso file was created with another file called toyota.mds
Nero's "burn image to disc" option is what I used to copy toyota.iso. I selected Data DVD added toyota.iso, clicked next, current drive /options and selected dvd-rom. then clicked the burn button. the burn created a 7.34gb disk with toyota.iso on it. when I put it in the nav slot it is unreadable.
What am I doing wrong? Sorry I'm just not up to speed on double layer dvd burning. Thanks for sticking with me on this.
SoBayJake 01-24-2007, 09:15 PM I just got a Camry Hybrid with Nav.
I got my 6.1 maps working with the v5 LOADING.KWI file. I tested the DVD, and it works.
But I still can't access the menu. I figure I need to get the Navi to get the new firmware.
So I was reading about pulling fuses, but which fuse? My manual doesn't list anything other than the fuse box locations. I don't really want to disconnect the battery.
Thanks!

there are no fuses to pull ... disconnect the negative terminal on you battery for a few minutes & reconnect ... when you turn the car on, the navi unit will reload the firmware from the dvd ... have your new burned dvd in the drive & it will reload the old firmware!

That makes no sense at all ... if i chose to pay for SAT radio, i could get it as an option on my 07 XLE w/ nav ... build date 03/06 ... originally w/ v5.1 firmware, so this poit is discredited!

This is what you are doing wrong, you are not using the burn image option. You DO NOT COPY the ISO file to a new DVD and burn it. With the Burn Image option the ISO will create the full DVD for you with the burn, no other steps are needed. You need to be sure you understand this first.

This may be true for the 07 Camery, but in late 07 they introduce SAT to several other models that didn't have it before with the 5.1 DVD. This includes the 07 Sienna which I have. Considering other cars that this is an option on, we just don't know what we removed functionality wise with going backwards. You didn't mention this, and since you don't have the source code you will not know. BTW, thanks for helping start this.

Just a heads up, your procedure about using NERO is only partially right, as Nero will NOT create a UFD/ISO 9660 DVD version 3. This has created a lot of confusion, and a lot of expensive costers.

can you explain? I used Neros burn image to disk. What part of nero is the burn image option in?

On the NERO 7 Menu, you go to the pull down "Recorder" then select "Burn Image". It then askes what file would you like to open. You then select your ISO file you created. This option DOES NOT COPY, or ADD any files to the DVD. It goes to the burn dvd section right away, and askes you to start burning the DVD.
I would suggest doing an internet search for "nero burn ISO" on google or yahoo.
Different version of nero had this option on different pull downs.
Here is a URL links to what it looks like in version 7, the most current version.

SoBayJake 01-25-2007, 10:18 AM Well, I think I spoke too soon. I was in my garage when I tested it. As soon as the "Checking DVD" popped up, I crossed my fingers. It went away quickly, and presented me with a map, showing my location, etc.
However, when I went to actually drive, things changed. I was still able to see my position, but doing anything with the system didn't work. Hitting the "Voice Command" button brought up a dialog box, no beep, and it timed out after a long while. Hitting the "Dest" button took a LONG time, and finally brought up the destination screen. But nothing was really usable.
I guess I'll try again, first with a backup copy of the disc, without changing the loading file.
BTW: I'm on a Mac, using Verbatim DVD+R DL discs, with Toast 7.1.

Annapolis_SE 01-26-2007, 07:29 AM Thanks to black88mx6 and 07camryxle I appreciate your help and patience. Thanks to everyone else in this post. This info was invaluable. I was in the wrong section of nero. The instructions yesterday got me through my problems, I was able to get the image to burn and the override option is now available.
07camryxle 01-26-2007, 10:20 AM All this would not of been possible without PillPusher84 for comming up with a way to create this disk.
Thanks PillPusher84 for your invaluable knowledge.
Annapolis_SE 01-26-2007, 10:25 AM Yes - Thank you PillPusher84. You are the one that got this started.
shotofwine 01-27-2007, 06:40 PM Thanks to the both of you actually.
After about 16 or 17 coasters trying all different kinds of ways, Black88mx6 saves the day.
eredleaf 01-28-2007, 02:09 AM After making just three Verbatim DVD+R DL coasters and two Memorex DVD+R DL coasters I saw Black99mx6's posts on how to successfully do this using imgburn. With all the success others were having with this procedure I thought it was worth trying with my last Memorex DVD (before I would have to buy another pack). Sure enough it worked. Finally our navigation system will be usefull on trips since now the passenger can find destinations while the car is in motion. I personally think Toyota is out of their mind for creating this limitation in the first place. The initial screen is enough to protect them from lawsuits and given their implementation the initial screen is unnecessary because with the system operating the way they intended you cannot do anything while driving so why should you have to acknowledge that you won't.
It seems aftermarket navigation systems are way better then these ultra expensive factory Nav systems, but we wanted the power third row seats on our Sienna Limited and to get those you have to get Navigation. I am just so happy that it will finally be useful Navigation thanks to Pillpusher84 for discovering the way to do this and to black88mx6 for coming up with a procedure that produced consistently working DVDs on a wide variety of media and burners. You both really deserve the gratitude and thanks you are receiving from the subscribers to this forum.
Thanks for your effort both initally and especially for the patients and effort you have taken to help the rest of us even after you hybrid Navigation DVDs were working.
pillpusher84 01-28-2007, 10:44 AM You're all welcome ... If any of you are looking for another valuable & relatively inexpensive mod ... click on the BackupCamera Link in my sig ... Eclipse BEC-105 camera will plug directly into the toyota nav wiring harness & work flawlessly when you put your car in reverse ... I believe it only cost $160 or $180 shipped!!
black88mx6 01-28-2007, 12:23 PM well then explain how it worked fine for me with NERO then????
Most likely different version of nero. Thats in the past, we have a consistent way of making this work. Thanks for your work and posting the file.
07camryxle 01-31-2007, 07:16 PM I just installed my XM unit. The intgration with the factory nav is awesome. I am using the re-athorided disk and no problems to report. The XM feature and re-authored disk work great!
Thanks again PillPusher and FlopShot for the help.
Sierra_Nevada 03-12-2007, 11:02 PM I wanted to let you know the configuration that worked for me. It worked like a charm on the first time, so I have no expensive coasters sitting around. I used a newer HP laptop with Windows Vista operating system, HP DVD +R Double Layer 2.4X disc, the HP included MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-8505 ATA Device burner, and HP included ROXIO Easy Media Creator Basic v9.
I followed the instructions of pillpusher-
1. I downloaded the program he provided.
2. I opened the DVD, Hit Ctrl-A (Select All), Ctrl-C (Copy), and then pasted that into a "newly created folder" in my documents.
3. I then copied the program provided by pillpusher and pasted it into the folder that possessed the files from the disc. I clicked replace existing file.
4. I opened Roxio and clicked data disc. I hit Ctrl-A in the "newly created folder" in my documents. I then drug them to Roxio and hit burn.
5. An hour or so later my disc popped out of the computer, I put it in the car, disconnected the battery cable, reconnected it, and tadah.
Note: I did not name the disc I created the same as the Toyota disc that came out of the car, so that is not likely your problem if you can't get this to work.
I wanted to say thanks to Pillpusher for hooking us up with the program and instructions. I'm not very computer literate and it was relatively simple to do. Thanks. Good luck to everyone else who tries this.

5.01 firmware definitely does have SAT radio capabilities in it. I installed my own Sirius receiver into my '06 Highlander after being told that Toyota wouldn't offer it. My NAV system currently has v5.01 installed, and all the details on my installing my Sirius radio are documented here. (http://bruce.pennypacker.org/sirius-highlander/)

No problem! My next thing is to get DVD Video on the NAVI Screen ... I'll let everyone know when that's tackled ... sometime late this summer probably!
TuneGuy 04-10-2007, 07:38 PM I wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. By reading it carefully and following the directions as you all thrashed out what was required I was able to make a DVD that worked the first time in my new Lexus. My wife and I travel together all the time so we had already found it cumbersome not to be able to have the passenger enter destinations while driving. Your workaround is a peach!
Thank you all!
CheapChic 04-10-2007, 08:03 PM what does the loading.kwi file do.

Everytime that your car losed power to the NAVI unit ... the NAVI loses it's firmware version. If the NAVI doesn't have firmware already loaded, it will look to the DVD to load the firmware into memory upon startup of the vehicle. What this procedure does is build a new DVD that encompasses two important things ... 1. The v6.1 MAP Data(Most up-to-date version) 2. v5.1 firmware that has the Volume Screen Diagnostics menu access, which allows you to press & hold the override button ... giving access to all the greyed out functions on the NAVI that you would normally not have access to while driving ... ie. destination input, BT functions, etc.
The NAVI unit will only load new firmware after power has been left off for a while ... so once the firmware is loaded, and you power down the car normally without disconnecting the battery, it keeps the firmware in memory. There is no limit to how many times you can "flash" the unit, as it's not being "flashed" persay ... it's just loading firmware ... like when you're computer boots up, it loads the opearing system!
Squishyface 04-12-2007, 03:22 AM I have received numerous requests for how to make the v06.1 Navi DVD w/ the version 5.1 override capability.
I took a look at the LOADING.KWI file. The firmware appears to be unencrypted. This means it may be possible to create a patch for the firmware to behave the way we want it to.
Just looking at some text in that file...wow...there is a ton of functionality built into the firmware. Anyways, if someone wants to post the 6.1 firmware, that may help out as well.
No promises though, reverse engineering something as complex as this is not easy.
EDIT:
Looks like the Corvette's nav unit is from the same manufacture:

I am a programmer. I am going to look at it myself.
TuneGuy 04-12-2007, 11:50 AM I'm glad to hear you programmers are going to take a look at loading.kwi because I have discovered that at least some functionality is lost in going back to the 5.1 version, as one might suspect from the much smaller file size.
Following the Quick Start Guide for Bluetooth and Voice Commands carefully, I was not able to load a new phonebook entry into my brand new ES350 by voice after installing the hacked DVD. The system had no clue what I was saying although I used the command in the guide and the system understands me fine otherwise.
Also, in loading Quick Dials and having given up on doing that too by voice, the guide said the phone book would come up to let me choose which entry to assign to the Quick Dial. That did not happen although there was a picture in the guide of the screen that should have come up. The only option was to enter the name and number manually. Trying to use that QD to dial later also didn't work because the numbers had disappeared, although I am less sure operator error wasn't involved in that part. I have not yet thoroughly studied Quick Dial. The inability to understand the voice command straight from the detailed pictorial guide and the failure of the system to offer a phonebook choice for a Quick Dial entry however were not operator error.
So keeping what can be kept from the new loading.kwi while inserting the override function from the old one looks like it would be useful. I am no programmer so I'll have to leave that to others.
While you're at it, enabling all phone funtionality while underway would sure be handy. After all, about 90% of us already use our cell phones while driving. What's the problem with dialing by screen? Or switching which phone is connected to the car?
Why do I have to tell the car which phone to use if only one of them is present??? The car should switch to it without manual input. As is, if I drive off without remembering to change to my phone beforehand, hands-free talking is impossible unless I pull over to the side of the road. They ought to think of the liability of forcing someone to put themselves in a position where they can be rear-ended by a semi- in order to get the safety benefit (?) of hands-free talking.
Thank you very much for your efforts.
SonarTech 04-25-2007, 12:10 AM There's a lot of duplicate work posted at the Club Lexus forums. If you're interested in the Nav hack (AKA "Hybrid" DVD), I wrote a detailed procedure for doing this same thing last year on September 24, 2006 at the following link:
http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2142447&postcount=124 (http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2142447&postcount=124)
I even called my DVD a "Hybrid DVD" just like PillPusher. Odd, huh? In fact, there's a lot of meat'n'taters over there that would apply to a lot of the questions you've been asking in this thread - stuff about why some DVD's work and others won't, which programs to use (NOT Nero), how to disassemble a KWI file, etc... Have a look:
http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216004&page=4 (http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216004&page=4)
Also, I'd like to say that I thought it was blindingly hypocritical for PillPusher84 to first say he doesn't condone software piracy (http://toyotanation.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1584436&postcount=8) and then turn around and publically post copyrighted firmware in the next sentence of the same post. I guess it's "OK" to pirate some things, but not others? Riiiight... Do what you like, I suppose, but know that if you download that firmware and burn a hybrid DVD and you aren't a legal owner of v5.1, you are in fact pirating software - even if you don't condone software piracy... or plagiarism.
Cheers,
SonarTech

It is a mostly accepted fact that if you own the lastest version of something, that you then have the rights to run/use the previous version(s) of the same software. Hence if you own a 6.1 DVD, you then have rights to a 5.1 DVD.

No, that's not how it works at all, actually. By your logic, you could buy Windows Vista and have usage rights for Windows XP, 2000, 9x and ealier editions all for nothing. This isn't shareware - it's a commercial product. When you actually pay $200 for an upgraded NavDVD, you're paying for the rights to use that particular software only on that particular media, not every version created previously. If that was the case, we would only have to pay $20-40 for upgraded MapData and not the $200 Toyota charges. The fact is, each time you buy a new NavDVD, you are buying a license to use the software and data on that media ONLY. Unless specifically stated in the license agreement, you do not "automagically" gain the right to use any previous version of the data or the software. It sucks, but that's the way it is. Ever wonder why, when you damage a music CD, you have to buy a brand new copy instead of just paying the cost of replacement media? That's because you're buying another license to play the music for personal use, even though you already paid for a license the first time. (I personally think the RIAA and media publishers should be sued for making you buy another license instead of just replacing the damaged media.)
The Denso Navigation System EULA (End User License Agreement) is printed in the appendix of the Navigation System Owner's Manual. The EULA for the NavSystem itself (which includes the firmware) is printed a couple of pages after the database EULA, and clearly states that "You may not decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer any portion of this information, and may not transfer or distribute it any form, for any purpose."
The rights to the software and the data on the Navigation DVD are retained by Denso and its data providers. Taking the LOADING.KWI file off the DVD and making a copy of it for anything other than a legal backup per the fair use law violates the EULA. Further, transfer or distribution of the software (i.e., to a public web site) is specifically identified as violating the license agreement, and that's exactly what PillPusher did when he made it available for anyone, licensed or not, to download. He might be helping you guys out, but he's taking an awful personal risk by doing so. You are also taking a risk using v5.1 if you can't provide proof that your are a legal user of the software. I can't begin to guess how many parts of the DMCA this violates.
But hey - it's your risk, not mine. I couldn't care less what you do or if Denso comes after you.

pillpusher84 04-25-2007, 10:11 PM There's a lot of duplicate work posted at the Club Lexus forums.
Cheers,
SonarTech
Wow ...
I posted a link in my original thread for NAV Hack that linked to your post on the Club Lexus Forum .... so I don't see what the mystery is .... the credit has been given to you .... and notwhere in my posts have I claimed the HACK to be from my own creation whatsoever!
PhantomZX 04-26-2007, 02:38 PM I tried creating this hybrid DVD, but it didn't work properly on my system.
I put the burned DVD in my system before pulling the fuse, and it was able to read the disc properly and even map a route for me to a destination 300 miles away.
I did notice the drive sounded like it was seeking quite a bit , but I never heard the system with the genuine DVD to compare it with.
After I pulled the fuse and turned on the system, I could see the unit trying to load the new firmware. However, about 70% through the progress indicator, it would make a beep and then start from 0%. It would just do this over and over.
I just put the genuine DVD back into the drive and it loaded the firmware fine.
TuneGuy 04-26-2007, 05:09 PM Regarding this, I wrote a guide for the ES-350 that might answer this question as well. Please see http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276775 (http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276775) for information on enabling the phone, calendar and other Multi-Display options while driving.

Thank you for the above-linked excellent tutorial, SonarTech. Very clear directions with links to great diagrams. I think I'm going to give it a try.:hammer: As you imply, doing it this way avoids any entanglement with software piracy. I do tend to agree with others, no matter how the letter of the law reads, that there is a common sense right to insert an earlier file if the new file is only the old file modified to make life more difficult for you. But I believe what you say about the letter of the law.
Frankly, I doubt that Lexus would have a problem with our using the file because no liability results. Anyone who goes to such extraordinary lengths to circumvent Lexus' safety features as to create a hacked DVD, obviously understands he is doing something the manufacturer did not intend! Lexus is off the hook.
(Sound of TuneGuy stepping up on soapbox.) You say you don't like having your nav system disabled? There would be NO litigious atmosphere in the United States if jurors (that's us!) used common sense and ruled in favor of the DEFENDANT when someone sues because a ladder did not have a sticker on it warning that you could fall off. Or if a navigation system let you program it while underway. Tell the plaintifs to grow up and face the music. I have sat on juries before. If you feel strongly about something you can sway the rest of the jury because they usually are only interested in whether they are going to be out in time to watch the Cowboy game.
TuneGuy veers even further off course: Jury of our peers. A peer is most definitely NOT someone like us. A peer is: "Generally a class-descriptive term applied to those of baronial House of Lords." That means we have a right to a trial decided by a jury made up of members the nobility, not by any dirtbag with a drivers license! Is it any wonder we get such bad verdicts? We intelligent people can change things when we sit on juries and demand people accept responsibility for their own decisions! Every freedom comes with a corresponding responsibility.
How stupid would a person have to be not to understand it could be dangerous to program his nav system at some times (maybe even many times) while underway?Anyone that stupid would not be able to drive a car, would he?
And if you don't buy that, they put in a warning screen. The warning screen says it could be dangerous and that's MORE than enough notice. And even if you didn't understand by that point (and I don't buy that you didn't), how stupid would you have to be not to learn it the FIRST time you weaved in your lane while programming? Yup, they understand.
We all KNOW these risks. The people suing are just trying to avoid taking responsibility for their own bad decisions. They don't want to feel guilty the rest of their lives for having killed their children by programming at the wrong time! Nevertheless, it's THEIR fault, not Lexus.' There was never anything wrong with the Audi 5000 either. There is no engine in any mass-produced car sold on the planet that is so powerful that the car's brakes cannot stop it even at wide-open throttle, and very smartly too according to Car & Driver's tests. Those mothers' cars "took off as if possessed" because they stepped as hard as they could on their accelerators, not their brake pedals and the result was they killed their children. Every juror should have sent every one of those mothers the clear message that you have a responsibility to learn to locate the brake pedal if you decide to buy a car.
We need intelligent jurors so DON'T SHIRK JURY DUTY. You can help change things. MAKE people accept responsibility for their own decisions and we'll get our Nav systems back. (Sound of TuneGuy stepping down from soapbox.)
Pillpusher sent me a link to your posts about this many months ago. He never tried to tell anyone he came up with it. I recall him even asking if anyone had tried what people were doing in the Lexus forums.
so has anyone hacked the firmware to auto-enable the override and disable the "I agree" screen?
SonarTech 04-29-2007, 12:26 AM Pillpusher sent me a link to your posts about this many months ago. He never tried to tell anyone he came up with it. I recall him even asking if anyone had tried what people were doing in the Lexus forums.
:deadhorse
Nearly all of the questions I've seen after reading the 7 pages in this forum about the procedure were already answered in the Lexus forum. PillPusher could just as easily referred you all to that particular forum - instead, he chose to start the first post in this thread with "I have received numerous requests for how to make the v06.1 Navi DVD w/ the version 5.1 override capability."
That sure as heck doesn't sound to me like someone just redirecting other people to a different URL to a guide written by someone else... And you think it does? REALLY? Most normal people would have said something like "For those of you interested in using the built-in v5.1 Over Ride with your version 6.1 map data, please refer to the following post:..." Instead, he apparently "received numerous requests" to repost a half-baked version of my procedure that left a great many of you asking questions like "How did you use Nero when Nero can't burn UDF+ISO", and "Why didn't it work when I burned it on this media with this drive", etc...
The point is, nowhere in this particular thread is there any reference whatsoever to the original procedure beyond what I provided. Why not? Why isn't there a link to the original procedure in the very first post in this thread? I know the answer, and I'm pretty sure anyone who read this thread in its entirety will too.
If you're going to make vague and inaccurate references to someone else's material, at least have the courtesy to cite your sources. Basic Writing 101.
The only reason it annoyed me was because PillPusher's procedure doesn't tell you everything you need to know to be able to do this correctly, and I have absolutely no tolerance for someone re-spinning my words into something else that just confuses everyone. That's not fair to me or to the people trying to use this procedure. I'll do my own talking, thank you.
I guess you do have PillPusher to thank for providing you with a pirated copy of the v5.1 firmware. I sure wouldn't.

cbssys 05-05-2007, 09:25 PM I burned the disk with the loading file swapped out with the one from the link in this forum. With the 6.1 still loaded in the NAV, my disk works fine. BUT, after removing the bat cable I get an error like "Please insert the correct disk" so somehow, my 2004 LS430 has figured out what I did, I guess. Then I put the new DVD back in and it loads the 6.1 software and it again works without the override. What am I missing here?
(Later, next day) Ok, used winimg to make the iso of 6.1, then imgburn to break up the iso, substituted the 5.1 loader, then made the new iso, then burned the disk. Map and all functions work fine. BUT then I disconnected the battery and when it tried to load the os, I got the same message, Please insert the correct disk. Ideas??

cbssys 05-07-2007, 08:40 PM Troubleshooting tip...
OK, tried to first copy the 6.1 and it works fine, even reloads the os once I disconnect the battery. But, when I make the disk with the 5.1 loading file, it works fine until I take the battery cable off. Then it says "please insert the correct disk." Could it be because my 6.1 is a GEN4 and the loader file I d/l is GEN5?? What to do??

Have you tried the 6.1 method of accessing the service menu? The problem I had with the 6.1 method is that I couldn't find override anywhere, and exiting the service menu rebooted the NAV system (so if override were enabled, it'd get cleared on the reboot).
Just FYI, here's how you get in with the 6.1 method:
1) Turn headlights off
2) Turn on NAV unit
3) Hold down "Info" button while performing steps 4 through 9
4) Turn parking lights on
5) Turn parking lights off
6) Turn parking lights on
7) Turn parking lights off
8) Turn parking lights on
9) Turn parking lights off
And to exit the service menu, hold down the "Display" button for 5 seconds.

When you say parking lights... you mean the flashers right (Red triangles on dash)?
remydog 05-11-2007, 08:45 AM Does unlocking the service menu mean that you now have full functionality of the nav system while the car is in motion?
If you make the 5.1/6.1 mod disk, can you then use the lockpick from coastaletech to gain all that same functionality in earlier model years?

I asked that question of the mfg. of Lockpick and they said their product will not work with the hybrid disk. Was hoping someone here would test that.

They said that 6.1 alone OR 6.1 with 4.2/5.1 loading file will not work with lockpick the way 5.1 does alone. She says she will email me if that changes.
Argelius 05-14-2007, 06:43 PM Using the "loading.kwi" file that was posted here.
Before disconnecting the battery, I inserted the disc to assure it was readable. After a brief "reading DVD" message, it appeared to load okay and the Nav screen followed my movements. However, if I tried to enter the destination (or Nav menu) screen, the touch screen became very sluggish and periodically froze or took many seconds to respond. I was never able to enter a destination.
Thinking this might be due to not having cleared out the ROM (by disconnecting the battery), I did this.
Again, when I started up again, the "DVD Loading" screen appeared and after about 30 seconds everything seemed to be okay. I was able to select the correct location (part of the map) for Illinois.
I then tried doing the motion lockout bypass by entering the service menu. Presto! It worked.
Unfortunately, the same sluggish-to-the-point-of-being-unusable behavior when pushing the 'dest' or 'menu' buttons is still there. Additionally, entering a destination using voice commands creates the same stuttering, behavior.
So close, yet so far away. Anyone have any thoughts?

Try a different brand or type of CD, looks like it is having a hard time reading the one you created. The good news is if your "process" was wrong, it would not be able to read it at all.
Argelius 05-15-2007, 09:31 AM I'm about 90% of the way there.
I drove the car today with my homemade DVD. I found the override worked perfectly -- could enter addresses on the fly. However, the same sluggish touch-screen behavior persisted (<5 seconds between button push and subsequent action).
I popped the original DVD back in (without disconnecting the battery), got the "loading files..." screen and all is working (except, of course the override). Going to try reburning on a different brand DVD.
One final question for those who have been successful. It would appear based on my experience with the "navigation override" that this does not affect the disappearing Mp3 CD (or iPod if you have the hookup) track information (i.e. the Title/Artist/Album/Genre info blacks out while in motion). Was soooo hoping the Nav override would spill into this annoying, unnecessary "safety" feature...
remydog 05-15-2007, 10:34 AM With all the struggles you have been experiencing, I called my local car electronics installer to discuss solutions. I have not yet purchased, but expect to pick up a HiHy in the next week or so. He suggested forgo the nav that comes from Toyota and instead purchase a Pioneer AVIC-D3 that installs right in the dash and includes nav, xm, bluetooth, backup camera, ipod connection and functionality and more. And it can be programmed on the fly! Cost -- $1500 including installation, etc. Still $500 or so less than the factory nav that has none of the other bells and whistles that Toyota should have included.

Of course a stereo shop is going to push an aftermarket product over OEM. The thing is, all the issues accounted for, an OEM has some intangible niceties that an aftermarket can't provide. I don't argue that an AVIC or Eclipse unit wouldn't provide more functionality and capability, but it isn't OEM and some people prefer it all to be a manufacturer serviced and backed thing. Not to mention it is better for resale.

lexusjim 05-15-2007, 04:57 PM pillpusher84 has posted a LOADING.KWI file needed to make a hybrid version 5.1/6.1 NAV disk. Turns out that his file works only with the NAV-U30/U31 DVDs (installed in the Lexus RX, etc.). The files, including LOADING.KWI, are different in the NAV-U20/U21 DVDs installed in the Lexus ES series. Would anyone be kind enough to post the LOADING.KWI file from the U20 DVD? My Lexus dealer discrded my version 5.1 DVD when they upgraded me to 6.1, and now says that it can't even be ordered.

Sadly, no - the Navigation Override won't release the calendar/music/maintenance/phone menu locks. It's a completely different circuit. I wrote a procedure to fix this particular problem on the Lexus; I'm certain it could be adapted to your Toyota. See http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276775 for the information.

I've tried both Verbatim and Memorex DVD+R DL discs, both with the same problem.
I'm using the loading.kwi file that was posted here at ToyotaNation. Wonder if that's not compatible with my Lexus GS450h (2007)? It would seem my recording process is working, since the discs are recognized and fully loaded (with the "loading" progress screen...).

Disc worked in the car, before the NAV flash, although there was a lot of drive seeking going on. When I pulled the fuse to get the NAV system to reload the firmware, it kept trying to load the new firmware but would beep about 60% through the progress and start from 0%.

I did the burning from an .iso I made using imgburn. I think you can do the whole process using Roxio, but since I'd previously made the .iso as part of previous (failed) attempts, I kept using it...
lexusjim 05-31-2007, 12:43 PM I have been unable to find what is new (areas covered, updated maps, greater functionality, etc.) other than loss of the Override capability in the latest Denso Navigation version 6.1 (compared to versions 4.2 and 5.1) for North America. Before spending big bucks on an upgrade, it would be nice to know what you're getting. Does anyone know if this information is posted somewhere?
lexusjim 06-01-2007, 12:15 PM Does this method wipe out your saved destinations and phone book when you disconnect the battery?
No, but it does wipe out radio and seat-position presets.
jeremyhelling 06-02-2007, 06:50 PM No, but it does wipe out radio and seat-position presets.
This brings up an interesting point to the subject brought up earlier... reverse engineering. What are the odds that we can add seat memory for different users to the Camry nav if it exists in it's more expensive cousins via the nav unit?
jeremyhelling 06-04-2007, 01:31 AM I tried ImgBurn and burnt my first coaster. The nav unit (after removing power for about 5min) reads no map disc. I put the new disc back into my PC and all of the files are there and visible much like that of the original disc. I used a Ridata DL DVD+R and a NEC DL burner with hacked firmware to burn DVD+R's to DVD-ROM booktype. I've burned hundreds of DVDs using this drive and software so I know there isn't a problem with those unless it's a compatibility issue w/the deck. I did double check and it appears as though I neglected to set the booktype within Nero to DVD-ROM instead of the default which is 'automatic'. I'm not sure why it didn't default to DVD-ROM via the firmware but I'll give it another shot.
Aside from that, I did all the steps as listed earlier (As far as I can tell) but there were a few steps that I was unsure of. For starters, it said to name the UDF label but it didn't saw what to name it. I entered 'CamryHybrid' so I'm not sure if this was correct or if it matters. Also, should I check the box to finalize the disc or no?
Those that used Roxio w/success what were the steps? I think I read that someone opened the original disc and copied all the files, made the swap and then burnt all the files to disc and it worked perfectly. This seems way too easy but was this the case or did you use ImgBurn to create the image first or was it really that easy?
jeremyhelling 06-13-2007, 01:36 AM I have tried exactly what black88mx6 (member.php?u=78896) listed and keep burning coasters. If someone can please read my post above and answer my questions I would grealty appreciate it. I've burned a readable copy of the 6.1 as a test using this media and burner and it works just fine. The error has to be with my img program settings as far as I can tell but I can't seem to find an error. Is there something specific the UDF has to be named that the nav unit is looking for or can this be any old name I want it to? I've read this thread several times in it's entirety now and still can't solve the issue.
Please help me!
cbssys 06-27-2007, 01:26 PM Jeremy, how do you know your hybrid copy does not work? And did you try the exact copy of the 6.1 in your car after disconnecting the battery? That is the real test as to whether or not that copy is functional. Early on, I had a copy that worked but the boot/install software part did not work and this is the only test.

Because when I put the modified copy in the drive it says 'No Map DVD' or something to that affect and no amount of time causes it to start loading. Yeah, I'm using the exact copy I made of it using the same media and same software and it's been in the car for a few weeks now w/o any issues. It even seems to load just as quickly as the original disc. It doesn't seem to be read any differently so far. So, I've verified my media as well as my software so the only variable is my image that I'm trying to burn. I used the steps described a few pages back to create a image to burn but obviously a setting is off or it would work. If I can get ahold of a known working image to burn or if someone can answer the questions I asked earlier as I'm still pretty sure that my problem lies within those problems I had that weren't addressed I think I'll be off and running.
durham2atl 07-08-2007, 11:05 PM Thanks for the info. I burned my hybrid CD today. The passenger can now access the destination controls while in motion.
durham2atl 07-08-2007, 11:39 PM FYI - I went through 3 DL DVDs before figuring out how to burn the image. Here is what I suggest to test your disc and hardware:
1. Burn an exact copy of your 6.1 DVD.
2. Try it in your car. If it works, but your hacked DVD does not, you are doing something wrong in creating the DVD.
Creating the hybrid DVD:
1. First verify your DVD and burner will work using the steps above.
2. Copy all of your files from your 6.1 disc to your hard drive. (nothing special, just drag and drop them).
3. Replace the Loading.kiwi file in the file on your computer with the 5.x version.
4. Complete the following steps to create the image using ImgBurn:
a. If you don't have the ImgBurn software, you can get it for free from ttp://imgburn.com/ (http://imgburn.com/)
b. Start ImgBurn software.
c. From Mode menu, select Build.
d. In the Source panel, click the Browse for a Folder icon. A Browse for Folder dialog box appears.
e. Navigate to and select the directory on your computer where the files are located.
f. Click OK. The selected directory displays in the Source panel.
g. In the Destination panel, click the Browse for a file icon. The Save As dialog box appears. NOTE: You are about to create a DVD ISO image using the files copied to your hard drive, so be sure to navigate to a directory that has enough space to hold about 8 GB.
h. Navigate to the directory you want to save the image, and then type a name in the File Name field. (For example: type NavCD_hybrid)
i. Click Save. The destination you selected is displayed in the destination panel.
j. Just below the Destination panel, click the Build icon. ImgBurn creates a DVD image of the files you selected. This will take a while -- close to 1 hour for me.
5. To burn the image that you created in step 4, complete the following steps:
a. From ImgBurn, select the Mode menu, and then select Write.
b. In the Source panel, click the Browse for a File icon. A Browse for File dialog box appears.
c. Navigate to the DVD image that you created in step 4, ad select it.
d. Click Open.
e. Put your new DL DVD into your burner, and click the Write icon.
Congratulations - you should have your hybrid DVD.

I suspect that a lot of the difficulties (ascribed to the brands of DVD blanks and burner, the settings of the burning software, etc.) reported by people may actually be due to their using the wrong LOADING.KWI file for their vehicle. From personal experience, I know there are at least two (with the same file name but different sizes), and there may be more (I couldn't find any general information on what disks work with various vehicles). If the LOADING.KWI file from an incompatible disk (labeled U21, U31, W41, etc.) is put on the hybrid DVD, the system reports 'No Map DVD'. BTW, I truly don't see much difference between the Denso Navigation version 6 and earlier versions 4/5 map data; has anyone seen a list of what was actually updated?

This is another variable as well. How can I assure I have the right .kiwi file??
lexusjim 07-09-2007, 04:24 PM This is another variable as well. How can I assure I have the right .kiwi file??
#1. Get the LOADING.KWI file from a disk for the same model vehicle, if possible.
#2. Make sure the size of the replacement file is the same as the size of the replaced file (at least in my case, the file sizes were the same even though the override functionality was different).

After making about 15 coasters, including some that were the same brand/process that worked for others, I have given up and succomb to using the v6.1 without override. It is very frustrating. Now I can't find my original 5.1 disc, so I can't even revert to the manual method.
I need a friggin LockPick. I think I will buy two when I get one for my new Sequoia.

I don't see LockPick having an all out option for the Camry Hybrid or I would have just ordered it by now as annoying as this has been and I haven't even begun the speed cable mod to get access to the other functions while movie. Eesh.

dontrobme 07-26-2007, 01:23 PM Does this method work on Scions? I am assuming it is the same NAV system. I was able to get into the diagnostic mode by doing the proceedure mentioned for 6.1 (hold down info, and click on and off your parking lights 3 times), so it has to be the same stuff. Has anyone heard of someone successfully making a hybrid disk for a Scion?
Anyways, I have been trying to get the hybrid disk working. My first couple attempts were to skip the 1 to 1 copy test and just go for it using ImgBurn. After making a couple coasters, I decided to try out a 1 to 1 copy of my 6.1 DVD. Same results, the system doesn't recognize it. The media I am using is Memorex DVD+R DL 2.4x. I noticed someone here got it working with those, so I don't know why the exact copy wouldn't load. I made the copy by doing a simple ImgBurn read, followed by an ImgBurn write. Pretty straight forward. Should I try a different type of media?
One last thing: The LOADING.KWI on my DVD is only 25.3MB compared to the 45.8MB file supplied. So once I get the 1 to 1 copy working, I still may need to find a compatible LOADING.KWI. My thought are that since the Scion doesnt have bluetooth/backup cam/voice commands, it has a stripped down loader. What do you guys think?
nguyenk 07-26-2007, 07:42 PM Just FYI Best way is using Roxio, it's so much easier. Also version 7 is coming out in a couple of week, might as well waiting for version 7.

jeremyhelling 08-07-2007, 02:41 AM Can anyone who has successfully burned a working disc burn one for me? I'm done burning coasters and can't seem to find where I'm making an error. I've read and read and read and just can't see where the error is and don't have any more time to spend on this. Any further effort I spend on this will be to sell the annoying OEM nav unit in favor for a much more feature rich (all of which work while moving with grounding a single wire while installing) and probably less expensive after market unit.
Please PM if you're able to help me out to discuss. Thanks!
keyser 08-08-2007, 12:13 AM so ... I have done anything based on everybody's experience .. after many trials I got a "hybrid" dvd.
So I disconnected the battery negative terminal for about 5 minutes or so ... when reconnect and start the NAV .. it's loading from the "hybrid" dvd .. then .. tada ... the map screen came up ... Too early for a celebration because the when-moving-input is still not working .. Anyone has similar experience, or has any idea what can be done differently?
Thanks in advance!!

not sure what is the "override" button, but i did get into the service menu by doing:
Have you tried the 6.1 method of accessing the service menu? The problem I had with the 6.1 method is that I couldn't find override anywhere, and exiting the service menu rebooted the NAV system (so if override were enabled, it'd get cleared on the reboot).
Just FYI, here's how you get in with the 6.1 method:
1) Turn headlights off
2) Turn on NAV unit
3) Hold down "Info" button while performing steps 4 through 9
4) Turn parking lights on
5) Turn parking lights off
6) Turn parking lights on
7) Turn parking lights off
8) Turn parking lights on
9) Turn parking lights off

but what do i do when i get in there?

There is no override button on the 6.1 version of the service menu. Thats why you need to replace the loading.kwi file with the 5.1 version. Then follow this sequence:
Press Menu
(menu screen appears)
Press Volume
(volume screen appears)
Press upper left corner
Press lower left corner
Press upper left corner
Press lower left corner
(Service Menu will appear)
Press and hold Over Ride for a few seconds
You have to do this every time you start the car. Good luck!

kewlguy 08-13-2007, 12:10 PM Can anyone zip the IDX folder and host it fir the GEN 4 6.1?
I misplaced my 6.1 during the time when I was creating the hybrid DVD, only to find my 1 yr old kid using it as a teether. I was able to get the ALLDATA.KWI file from it but I just cannot access the IDX folder.
Would really appreciate if someone can help me out here.
adipose 08-22-2007, 10:32 PM I came on this site a while ago looking for various versions of LOADING.KWI files. This seems to be the thread to follow, even if you aren't gen5. I have the following files from different NAV systems I have had. I first had a gen2, and then upgraded the DVD system to a gen4 (as high as my car can handle w/o changing head units).
I have named the files as follows:
The disc ID (U40 for the LOADING.KWI uploaded by someone else for gen5).
The nav generation (GEN5)
The map/firmware version.
Many of these files have two parts numbers, I have preferred the first type of part # if it has it. Some only have the second part number (W41), so I include it instead.
U01_GEN2_6.1.LOADING.KWI (86271-33035, 24,436,736 bytes)
U00_GEN2_5.1.LOADING.KWI (86271-33034, same file as above)
U20_GEN4_5.1.LOADING.KWI (86271-33045, 52,234,240 bytes)
U40_GEN5_5.1.LOADING.KWI (86271-53020, 48,082,944 bytes)
W41_GEN4_4.2.LOADING.KWI (86271-33044, 52,234,240 bytes )
(W41 only says "5-464210-018" on my disc, but I found the part no. on the web, hope it's right. Also, this file is the same size as U20, but the files have many differences)
GEN2.VER1 (86271-47020, initial version 2000, no disc ID, no loading.kwi file)
-
Sometimes the discs have the same firmware version even though the disc is newer and has newer maps (e.g., U00 and U01 for gen2 systems, the firmware does not change).
I suggest we compile a database to identify each disc number, LOADING.KWI version, etc. This information can provide the beginning of this database; it's all I have. Please update database by replying with the info you can provide.
I have compared a GEN2 DVD to a GEN4 DVD where both are 5.1 and the map files are substantially different in size, name, and data. A hybrid between gens probably will not be possible.
I have uploaded the following file, since no one has made a 5.1 version for gen4 systems available.:
U20_GEN4_5.1.LOADING.KWI (86271-33045)

I think what you are asking is what I did the in step 1. orig disk > iso > new disk ... using imgburn (no luck)
davidc10 09-06-2007, 06:58 AM I'm trying to make a hybrid disk for my new 2007 Camry Hybrid. Disk U31.
1.) My first step is to make a working copy of the original disk to confirm my process using ImgBurn.
This was successful when I read directly from the originally disk to create an ISO image using ImgBurn for the whole process. So at least I have a working backup of the original.
2.) Second step was to try to make a copy of the original by dragging the contents of the disk to a file, then create the image and burn.
When I do this however it looks like the image sizes will be different even though all the files are there.
Original: 7,908,425,728 reported under ImgBurn Read Mode
Copy : 7,906,983,936 reported as image size ImgBurn is going to create
Is this normal?
OK this was successful too.
3). Step three is the loading.kwi replacement. Disk is burning now. The replacement file is much smaller than my original, which is over 70 Megs.
OK this was successful and the Override works fine. I guess a few days of driving and testing the other features will tell, but at least all the right screens load and the routing works well - same speed as before.
BTW, when I pulled the fuse and the system reloaded, all my previous data points and config settings were lost except Home, which was somehow retained in memory.
If anyone needs to know I'm using Memorex DVD+R DL disks, ImgBurn and the stock DVD burner in my eMachines, which is an LG rebrand, nothing fancy - under XP. Just to be sure I shut down all other programs, killed the network and disabled Norton while burning. All three disks went very smoothly.

crasher17 09-06-2007, 10:03 PM Try disconnecting the battery (-) terminal for about 5min. It worked for me...
I did tried by taking out fuse for more than 5 min. and unit even reload from the burnt DVD, and after reloading, gave error message, to insert the map DVD. It wont run with hybrid DVD

I know, I too tried taking out the fuse but it didn't work. You should disconnecting the (-) terminal instead.
I think your problem is not on the connection but the hybrid DVD. Did you correctly create the disk? Try following the steps posted. Good Luck..

Finally after tossing 5 disks, it is successful :whatwhat:
I used Imgburn to read, build, and write. Took out fuse for couple of minutes, and VOILA:clap:
No need to take out battery terminals.
wileetundra 09-24-2007, 12:26 AM I was inspired by this thread and many similar threads on other forums. I did the 5.1 mod and just couldn't live with the loss of some functionality. So I recently created a small device from $15 worth of parts that enables ALL of the factory NAV functions even while the vehicle is in motion, with any firmware at all. You don't need to make the 5.1 disc, it will work with 6.1 (and probably all future versions) just fine. It will most likely work on a lot of other vehicles and NAV units too. You can read all the details on my mod site here: WileETundra's mod site (http://www.pinemountainfirearms.com/pmf/tundramods/default.aspx)

fox1141 09-26-2007, 02:24 PM I have an 2003 which is a Gen 2/3 and the DVD says
86271-33031
464210-0270
DATA ver.02.1
The upgrade DVD to v6 is 00230-GEN23-CY06
Can I create a hybrid from a Gen 4 v6.1 DVD?
Would putting my current Gen 2/3 LOADING.KWI file onto the Gen 4 v6.1 DVD work?
thanks.
edit:
Does anyone have the LOADING.KWI file from a GEN2 or GEN3 disc?
Would this be all I need to upgrade my unit.
kenike 10-06-2007, 03:27 PM I have another 'strange' scenario. As I mentioned in another post long ago, I thought my 'new' DVD (replaced under TSB) was v5.1
It is now confirmed. I have Data v5.1 and no ability to override. :cursin:
I have the same problem. I bought my 07 Camry back in March of 06 when the 1st came out. Overide function worked great. Started having problems with system getting lost (seriously) and factory replaced DVD. It still noted as ver. 5.1 (but no overide function anymore. I tried burning disk solution posted here but like you must have older version. I may also not be buring the disk right though either. (using standard file copy to HD and burning data DVD with Nero 7). Gone through 5 HD DL disk so far but no luck. Any suggestions?
dsienna 10-11-2007, 11:35 AM the file i uploaded was the U30/U31 version .... what vehicle do you have & i'll tell you if it's compatible.
IS this good for the 08 sienna i beleive it has 7.1 version
lab130 10-19-2007, 05:16 PM Hi. I've made a disk and it appeared to work at first, but not well. At least it showed a map for a second. Now it's just telling me I have an invalid disk.
I was wondering about disconnecting the battery terminals. Is there something special I have to do to do it without zapping myself? The location of the battery in the trunk in that little hole makes it difficult to get tools into to release the bolt holding the terminal clamp down. Please, someone, give me instructions so I don't zap myself.
lab130 10-21-2007, 12:22 PM Do I have to name the disk the same title as the original disk? My copy didn't work and I wonder if it's because my title was different. I used a Mac disk utility to burn the disk.
mquraish 10-22-2007, 10:00 PM For anyone with a 2007 Highlander Hybrid, I got this to work using the method described by durham2atl on page 10 on 7/8/07 (thank you) and the LOADING.KWI file provided by adipose on 8/22/07 on page 12 (thank you). Imgburn worked great. I burned using an ASUS DRW-1814BLT SATA DVD burner with the latest firmware on a Memorex 8x +R DL disc. After I checked that the nav would read the hybrid disc, I unplugged the batter for 5 minutes and it loaded the new DVD's firmware. No stuttering, no slow input or slow response time - works great and now I can do the OVERRIDE and use the inputs while driving. The only annoyance (very minor) is that we lost our radio station presets.
I am running a new Q6600 Quad Core maching that I built with Vista UltimateOS.
Now that I got this to work, I will not be checking this site anymore (at least not with any regularity). If can answer some specifics about my situation, I will try to answer them if you PM me. I just wanted to share a combo that worked in case it helps anyone. thanks.
jkbrand 10-23-2007, 10:18 PM I've created two burns using Imgburn 2.3.2; after each run, the log indicates the ISO was succesfully created as ISO9660, UDF (1.02). The log also shows the disc was "finalised" and that "image MDS" successfully completed.
After burning the DVD, however, Imgburn then does a verify between the ISO and the newly written DVD and fails in reading at the beginning of the second layer (sector 1924240).
When the DVD is loaded into the car, I get a "No DVD loaded" error, even after the radio fuse had been pulled for 5 minutes.
I'm concerned that the 6.1 KWI file being replaced is 70MB and the 5.1 file is 46,956 bytes. Seems like a huge difference.
In my reading of this thread, it appears there are multiple 5.1 LOADING.KWI files. How can one be sure he's using the proper one for an '07 TCH??

Very interesting, however, why not simply put a toggle switch on the VSS wire...
robdls 11-18-2007, 06:25 PM Is anyone who sucessfully made a hybrid disc for a 2007 Toyota Camry be willing to send me one if they have time for some money for materials and time? I will send you a picture of my v6.1 NAV disc with my name in it to prove I own it. Message me if you are willing.
Thanks,

Dang1 11-19-2007, 03:03 AM redwings7907....
Keep in mind if you replace the loading.kwi on your 7.1 disk with the 5.1 version, the "I agree" button, which is gone in 7.1 will come back. The speed pulse generator is probably a better solution.
Eyekutr...
A simple toggle switch works, but after 30 seconds or so the Nav figures out what you have done and disables the inputs anyway. With the speed pulse generator, it never locks out until you turn it off.
Later!

jnd1818 11-27-2007, 04:19 PM Can someone please post another link for the v5.1 loading.kwi file?
This link: http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=377368 doesn't work anymore.
Thanks
mstrange 12-05-2007, 12:23 PM OK I have read and tried many of the options. I am able to burn my old version 3.3 and use a copy in my DVD drive (I am a Lexus owner) just fine. I create the hybrid with ImgBurn (the .ISO) and then burn it and it says it can not read map data?
So I disconnedted the battery for 5+ mins and put in the hybrid and it said wait loading data and when it was finished it then gave me the same can not read map data. I know that I have the right combo of DVD drive and media, I know that it is reading some of my hybrid disk.
I have a 04 Lexus LS 430 which is a Gen 4 navigation system. I also am using the Gen 4 V5.1 Loading.kwi file that was listed on this thread (I know that the first one posted was a different GEN). Any ideas? Will the V5.1 Loading.kwi work with my Gen 4 V 7.1 data?
Thanks for any help and all that this forum has provided already!
************************************************** ******
UPDATE: I created a ISO from my new 7.1 disk and then used UltraISO to remove the current loading.kwi file and inject the 5.1 file. I then burned this ISO with Image burn. This partially worked, the maps would come up and run, I could set the override, but when I went to enter a destination it would just freeze. So I went ahead and loaded my new 7.1 disk with the upgrade. It works great but no override. I then swapped my hybrid 7.1 with factory 7.1 and it worked fine (of course no override as I did not disconnect the battery to force a new loading.kwi to load). So it appears that my disk is being read correctly.
Looks like for GEN 4 Lexus Navigation with new maps 7.1 will not work with the Loading.kwi file from 5.1 (by the way my V3.3 has a Loading.kwi file of the exact same size). Any help input???

smilepak 12-10-2007, 01:25 AM What is the latest version navigation DVD available for Gen 6 camry and where can i buy it online?
By the way, the 2007 - 2008 Camry uses a Gen 5 Navigation Disc or Gen xx.x?
smilepak 12-16-2007, 10:07 PM Anyone tried this 5.1 KWI file on a 7.1 disc? I am thinking about buying the 7.1 disc and wanted to try this method.
This is for the 2007 Camry using the Gen 5 Navigation. I have the 5.1 version now and would like to purchase 7.1 version.

dkguru 12-17-2007, 04:51 PM Just wondering if there has been any progress with the 2008 Camry / Gen 7.1 GPS?
And I still wish I could get my waypoints into the GPS from my Bluetooth Laptop. Brand new car, on board computer, bluetooth, gps - but I guess integrated technology is not for year 2008, sigh.
trebor129 12-30-2007, 11:45 PM Anyone tried this 5.1 KWI file on a 7.1 disc? I am thinking about buying the 7.1 disc and wanted to try this method.
I have an 2008 Sequoia and just put 5.1 firmware on my 7.1 disk. It works.
I used a Memorex DVD+R DL and burned with Roxio Basic using no special settings. The key-sequence for override works and the full features become available at any speed.
Two downsides:
1. You need to override it each time you start the car.
2. You get that annoying warning message and have to hit OK - EVERY time you drive the car. This might be worse than simply giving up the ability to input
I am thinking a hardware mod is going to be worth it unless someone can hack out that warning.
jkbrand 01-01-2008, 11:13 AM Trebor, where did you get the 5.1 file??
trebor129 01-01-2008, 11:40 AM A link posted here. It might be gone now.

Let me see if I understand the steps..
1) Have the 5.1 KWI ready
2) normal copy 7.1 disc into path let say c:\temp\
3) replace 7.1 KWI with 5.1 KWI
4) use NERO to burn a dual layer disc of all files in temp directory
I don't need to do ISO, replace file in ISO, burn ISO?
Just got my 7.1 disc a few days ago..now I just need to buy a dual layer burner.
Dang1 01-01-2008, 02:47 PM Maybe some of the challenges people are having burning this is the vastly different sizes of the files.
The 5.1 KWI is 47mb, the 7.1 is 118mb. Sometimes drastic changes in the ISO size seem to throw the burn off. Not sure why.
Sort of makes you wonder what they've added to the code doesn't it?
I tried the 6.1 with the 5.1 KWI, but having to do the override sequence everytime drove me nuts. I'm thinking of building a bunch of speed pulse generators, but to sell them I'd want to find the right connectors, so it's all plug and play. We'll see.
Later!

No, you don't need to make an ISO image.

Yep! Anyone?
smilepak 01-09-2008, 07:33 PM Anyone got the 5.1 KWI up somewhere on a link they could share? I lost the one I download originally awhile back
jkbrand 01-09-2008, 07:55 PM I wish I could help by providing it.
Be sure you get the right one for your model car. They are not all the same, and if you don't get the right one, you'll get a message that no DVD is installed.

Looks interesting.
Dang1 01-12-2008, 03:59 PM The Scion I'm not sure about, but on the Camry the Nav locks out anyway after :30 seconds or so. Also, the map update is quite jerky.
A switch works OK though, so you can turn it off and on.

HwyStar72 01-20-2008, 04:06 PM Is there somebody who can tell me how to identify the generation of the NAV system used in a 2007 Highlander? Are there any differences between the Hybrid and Gas-only models? Mine came with v6.1 data disk, part #86271-33046/ 464210-0780. The disk is also labled U21. Is the same NAV system used on Camry and other 2007 Toyota vehicles, or are there different generation and sytems used in different models? Before I start to make coasters, I'd like to figure out if I am heading down the right track...
Thanks in advance!
Dang1 01-21-2008, 01:15 AM Hmmmm....
That's interesting. I would thought all the Toyota/Denso Nav units use the same disk, but the the Camry 6.1 disk is 86271-53021 (and 7.1 is 86271-53022), so maybe not.
Not sure what the significance of the last 5 digits is.

strizhko 01-21-2008, 09:37 AM For my 2007 Toyota Highlander I downloaded the LOADING.KWI file from here
http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=377368&dv=1
copied my original nav 6.1 DVD, replaced the .KWI file with above (to work properly the .KWI file sizes must be identical) and followed the instructions posted by durham2atl on page 10.
Worked perfectly.
fishbate 02-05-2008, 01:03 PM Is there anywhere else to find the v5.1 loading.kwi file. The link at the top of this thread is apparently broken as it stops downloading at 10.0 Mbytes. Thanks

Have similar experience attempting the Hybrid v5.1/v7.1 Nav disk.
Here are my observations if this will help anyone to figure this out.
There's an additional file on the Gen 4 v7.1 disk (don't know if this is on any other Gen) Opened this file with Notepad and there is a list of the files in the IDX folder. Also opened LOADING.KWI v7.1 with Notepad and there are several calls to this 05.cmp file.
Gen 4 LOADING.KWI are all the same size for v5.1, v6.1, and v7.1.
Neither v5.1 or v6.1 had this 05.cmp file. Any programmers out there can explain this?
I can send you a unlocked 7.1 for $100.
Which Gen are you offering?
Can you give more details as to what is unlocked?
smilenlaugh 02-26-2008, 12:44 PM I have Camry XLE V6 2008. I am wondering if there is any way to override the bluetooth system so that all the functions can be used while the car is in Motion. Does replacing the file 'LOADING.kwi' in the navigation system (with 5.1 vertion) solve this problem? Thank you.
fishbate 02-26-2008, 01:18 PM Yes. At least it worked in my '08 Camry Hybrid
smilenlaugh 02-27-2008, 01:07 PM Fishbate, thank you for your reply. I was able to make a hybrid DVD from my Navigation DVD (version 7.1) and replaced the file LOADING.KIW with 5.1 version. The system is recognizing the hybrid dvd (I didn't disconnect the battery). Can you please let me know how to override the locks. Thank you
gumby 1 02-28-2008, 01:58 AM I have an 08 Highlander with the 7.1 version of the DVD Nav software U32. I took the instructions from page 10 of this thread and was able to successfully make the Hybrid disk. I used the Loading.kwi from 5.1 as was suggested on page 15 after that. I unplugged the audio fuse for a few minutes, put it back in, and then loaded the hybrid dvd. It loaded the new disk fine. It also showed the I Accept button, which I previously did not have, so I figured I was on the right track. I tried to access the Override Menu and was successful as well. This menu was not available previously either. I have not driven the vehicle yet, but will check it out tomorrow. As a side note, my XM stations and points on the GPS were all saved :) There are several other settings on the new service menu that I have not seen either. They show stuff like Time Setting, Software version, and the like. Does anyone understand what all of these are for? What all features does this unlock? From what I understand, I can change bluetooth profiles and POI settings while moving, but I also read something about audio settings. Not sure what that is about. I will get back here tomorrow with results.
Thanks for the help, Brian
redwings7907 02-28-2008, 02:21 AM i have a licensed copy of the DATA ver.06.1 navigation dvd from my 07 TCH that was totaled in november that i am looking to sell. pm me if you might be interested.
gumby 1 02-28-2008, 02:13 PM Success !! I test drove my 08 Highlander and all appears to work fine. All of the speed related disabled features have come back and I can change them on the fly. Now I wish there was a way not to have to reactivate it every time I start the vehicle. I hate to post this in the Camry forum, but this is where the best info was, thanks all. Instead of using imgburn like most, I already had PowerIso and I used that to make the hybrid DVD. I simply made the image of my original 7.1 DVD, burned a copy of it to test (it worked fine), and then substituted the 5.1 Loader file into the image (simple replace), burned the image again and presto, it worked on first try. As others have mentioned, the 5.1 Loader file (~47MB)is quite a bit smaller than the 7.1 Loader file(~119MB), but it made no difference in my case, YMMV. If you are still having issues, I would be glad to help if possible.
Good luck to all, Brian
BillJr106 02-29-2008, 06:55 PM Im surprised we dont have a programmer working on this who just can take the 7.1 loading.kwi and find the part of the code that removes the over ride and service menu and just replace it back into the code.
jcotero 02-29-2008, 10:46 PM Well after three coasters I was finally able to make a hybrid 7.1 DVD. For me my problem was that my burner was going bad. I got the PLEXTOR|PX-810SA and frist DVD I tried I was succesful.
timmymac123 03-03-2008, 08:06 AM Okay, I did this...under linux:
dd if=/dev/sr0 of=/toyta.iso bs=1024
I end up with a proper image.
I used some free ISO editing software to:
Rename LOADING.KWI to LOADING.OLD
Add LOADING.KWI to the iso.
I saved the new ISO.
Burned it just fine with Nero for Linux.
Loaded it into my TCH. It was not recognized, so I pulled the "Radio" fuse for about 10 seconds and replaced it.
I stared the car and it read and load the new DVD. The OVERRIDE worked.
However, after I turned on the override, I noticed one major function missing: there was no "seclection area' available.
Press Destination. On the middle-right of the screen is the selection area (i.e. North East, Mid-Atlantic, etc.). However, mine is empty and the "Change" button (I think that was it) is there but pressing it does noting.
Anyone have any ideas why?
thanks
This will clear out the NAVI's memory & when it comes back on, it will have to reload the firmware from your newly burned DVD, then the procedure should work!!
masbot 03-03-2008, 09:22 AM I followed the process on my 08 Camry Hybrid and it does indeed work. Just to list all the steps again for anyone a little confused.
1. Use explorer to copy in all the files to a directory on your computer
2. Download and overwrite the existing LOADING.KWI with the 5.1 version (see previous posts)
3. Use ImgBrn to make and ISO of the directory
4. Use Nero or some other DVD burner software to put the ISO on a Double-Layer DVD
5. Pop out the original DVD and put in the new one.
6. Remove the negative terminal from the battery and wait for 5 minutes
7. Reconnect the battery
8. Turn on the radio, you should see it loading then go to the "I Agree" page
9. After you agree do the dance to get to the service menu (see previous)
10. Key for me was to hold down the Override button for a few seconds until it beeps. I wasn't waiting long enough.
11. All done. Driving should give you everything now.
Only last annoying thing is that you have to do the "I Agree" every powerup and then do the override steps. Not a bad tradeoff but wish there weren't any. Since the only thing changed is the LOADING.KWI then some genius programmer will have to figure out where that is and if there is a way around it so you don't have to do either.
Flyingtux 03-05-2008, 06:06 AM I have a 2006 Prius with V5.1 Gen 5 Nav DVD. Even though it's 5.1 it does not have the override menu. I use a Plextor 760A and have burned many DVD's including several DL's, almost all successfully. However I burned 5 DVD's for the NAV including one direct copy of my original disk and my Prius won't read any os them. I've used Imgburn, Alcohol and Nero. All the one's I burned with Nero verified perfectly but none will work. I don't understand what the secret is with these NAV disks. Any help would be appreciated. I hate to admit this, but I am a computer nerd and still can't figure this one out.
redwings7907 03-05-2008, 06:02 PM well i just don't get it. i copy the 7.1 dvd onto my desktop, replace the loading.kwi file with the loading.kwi file on my fully functional 6.1 hybrid dvd, create a disk image, and burn the image to a dl dvd (just as i did previously with the 6.1 hybrid dvd). but every time i get the "insert map dvd" message. i think i have tried 4 or 5 times already (it only took me 3 tries with the 6.1 hybrid dvd). :ugh3:  :ugh3:  :ugh3:
masbot 03-05-2008, 08:10 PM I only burned one DVD and had the same issue initially. Thought it was the media but it wasn't. First, disconnect the negative on the battery for at least 5 minutes. Second, make sure it comes up with the "I Agree" page. The key for me was to go to the diagnostics menu and hold down the Override button until you hear a beep (several seconds not just a press). Mine works great now and I don't get the "can't read DVD" anymore.
I have received numerous requests for how to make the v06.1 Navi DVD w/ the version 5.1 override capability.

Look for the download button in the mess of all the ads ... sorry needed free file hosing for a 46MB file & this is the best I could do!
once you burn this new "hybrid" DVD, you can do the volume screen service menu procedure to get to the override button!
Good Luck ... this took a few tries to get it right, but I can verify that this procedure DOES Work ... I have been running this "hybrid" dvd now for about a month now on my XLE w/ no problems!!!:whatwhat:
I made the Hybrid Disk and got it loaded. However it only worked to override the NAV not the Phone features. Phone still turns grey.. any suggestions on what i did wrong or what i can do. My biggest concern was the phone not the NAV. Please help me someone.
I have a Lexus GS350 2008.. thanks,
which version of the softwear are u using, maybe that makes the difference. to me the phone is more important than the Nav.
right now i am using 7.1, maybe if i try the older ones it will override the phone also.
jeremyhelling 03-08-2008, 12:28 PM If I just want to make an exact copy to test my burner & media can I just use Nero 8 Ultra to make an exact copy or do I need to use ImgBurn and read it, build an ISO and write it? Just trying to find out the easiest possible way to create an exact copy to test the media software before I go further. I was going to just try to copy w/Nero 8 but I didn't see an option for Dual Layer but I assume it will do this automatically??
Thanks for the help.
Topcellar 03-08-2008, 05:03 PM I have a new DVD that I am trying to install. How do I eject the 5.1 DVD? I found the DVD player, found a slide mechanism that opened the DVD eject door, but can't find any eject button. How do I get the old DVD out to insert the new DVD?

Cheaper: Item #110232235345
Has v5.1 loading.kiwi file AND is the latest v7.1 map disc. Sweet!
Is it possible that doing this override disconnects the voice activation system for the Nav and the Phone. I did the override and now my voice does not work. is this the result of the new disk. thanks..
Interesting. The description in both listings seem to be identical!
AND the first listing is no longer available. Sweet!

deanjp1 03-11-2008, 09:40 AM Anybody with a 2008 Highlander Hybrid? I think I've got the disk made correctly, as I can insert it and it reads with no errors, but I have several different Audio fuses to pull, I pulled 1 and tried, no luck to load the new file. I pulled the second fuse, after replacing the first, no luck. I have not tried pulling both at the same time, It also looks like I have a relay also. Did not try that. Any thoughts? I'd rather find a fuse than disconnect the battery.
