Toyota not interested in buying Chrysler

Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) President Katsuaki Watanabe reiterated Monday the world's second-biggest auto maker by output would have no interest in acquiring Chrysler if DaimlerChrysler (DCX) did decide to sell its struggling U.S. unit.At a company presentation ahead of the Geneva Motor Show, Watanabe fielded several questions about the possibility of Toyota being interested in Chrysler in an attempt to overtake General Motors Corp. (GM) as the world's biggest auto maker, but he dismissed the suggestion each time.
"We have no intention of acquiring or buying Chrysler," Watanabe said.

Watanabe said if Chrysler were to approach Toyota to suggest possible cooperation in areas like research and development, then "we would listen," but no approach has yet been made.
Watanabe said Toyota isn't focused on being the world's biggest car maker by output, preferring instead to focus on qualitative results like "quality, cost competitiveness and profitability."
The Toyota president also said the company wasn't currently searching for another U.S. production site after announcing the opening of a plant in Mississippi last week. Media reports after the announcement suggested Toyota would need to boost production further in the U.S. to keep up with its soaring sales in that country.

I don't understand all the latest rumors about Toyota buying NA manufacturers. Have they ever bought out another manufacturer? Hino perhaps? I know they own part of Subaru and maybe some others, but that's totally different.
Just doesn't seem Toyota's style, and I hope it doesn't start to be.

Interesting.....maybe they would be interested if the asking price was much lower.

Interesting.....maybe they would be interested if the asking price was much lower.

The asking price couldn't be much lower considering the potential Chrysler has. Right now it's just a fraction of the price DaimlerBenz paid for it in 1998.

Consider the fact that 2006 was the first losing year the Chrysler group has posted in quite some time. In 2005 they made a cool $2.2B. They practically kept the whole DCX conglomorate afloat during that time. Whoever ends up purchasing Chrysler is going to get a sweet deal. The Germans have always resented the Chrysler group and one bad year is a convenient excuse to end the marriage.

the chinese will buy it if they were smart, they have more then enough money to, maybe just not the management team to.. but if they figure out that part... im sure most of you can come up with your own conclusions

The only use Toyota will have for Chrysler is its plants other than that, nothing else much.

Toyota wouldn't want the plants. They'd come with the unions and that would be enough to kill any deal.

Wonderful Who needs Chrysler anyway?

Like GM the last thing Toyota needs is to aquire another company. Unlike GM Toyota is growing rapidly of course that has its downsides. Anyway Toyota is big and getting bigger as it is, doesn't need a POS Chrysler to bring it down or burden it. Toyota has to focus on themselves and quality and dealing with the fact that they are growing so fast. IMO:thumbup:

Why would a Japanese company with Import styled cars want a extremely NA style company? Toyota really has no need expand more than it already is!

Chrysler is slow, dying scum of a car company. They are completely worthless to anyone.

Post that in a MOPAR forum and see what kind of responses you get there, sparky.

If you don't like what people post: a) don't read it.
b) stop visiting this site and join a GM fanboy site.

The important thing here is that Toyota did not make the deadly mistake of buying up one of the big 3.

Uuuummmm, I am educated in the automotive world. I have been in the auto world well over 20 years.
As far as what this place is or well should be is a place for Toyota enthusiasts to learn more about their cars NOT for people like you and others to sit there and make false accusations. At least be truthful. But some how I dont think its possible for youto do.

Oh and who says I am angry. Yeah, I will admit inthe beginning I was, but that was awhile back. I have been over it. The real deal is you dont like a different opinion other than yours.

Oha nd I never said it was anyones fault here no did I? NO, so again there is another false accusation. So I dont htink I am the one who needs to grow up, I think you do, b/c you faill to accept facts and the truth.

well if there is a higher percentage of toyota owners in you area, and you are picking up the same number of people then less of the toyotas werer having problems.

If I owned a domestic I would schedule time for car repairs every month so some people may not get a rental, they may just use there scheduled car repair time and wait at the dealership. the people you are picking up from the domestic dealerships are probably being picked up after they were told the dealership couldnt find the problem and had 48 other cars with the same problem they are working on it and to expect a reply within 4-7 bussiness days.

Ive gotta say over the last 10 years Chrysler is about the only company that has shown just about 0% improvement in theyre quality. It always amazes me the number of newer chrysler products that come in to the shop that have major problems. Some of them that are still under the 3 year 30K warranty. I dont really want them to go under but its just getting ridiculous. Im not saying theyre all crap, but the chances of getting a bad one are so high. I cant even remember how many 3-4 year old PT cruisers with 30-40K miles ive had to do freeze plugs on cause they just rott out and leak coolant. Oh well, maybe someone will buy them out eventually and improve them. :hammer:

my opinion and personal experience leads me to believe that toyota is ahead of gm. my family is a toyota/GM famliy. we have more toyotas than chevys and have more problems with the GMs we've claim 2 lemon laws and multiple warrenties, the toyotas we've claimed 2 warrenties. so in my exp. toyota wins. but in cliff jones exp GM wins its not really about what you think is better, it is what your experiences are with the 2. judging from most post, most have no exp. with GM. they really arnt that bad.
and cliff jones there are close minded people yes... your always going to have that but if i go start post at the GM forums like you did hear i would have the same reaction you had.
in my opinion on the chrysler thing they'll be around but with more people wanting better quality and better gas milage, theyll be gone shortly if they dont do anything about this. and who ever said the BIG THREE HAD to be a AMERICIAN COMPANY, when chrysler slips out of the picture toyota will step up then. they are just letting other companies battle it out, so has GM but it look as though GM is gettin into it to.
and im not arguing im stateing my opinion
im not attacking either

Hopefully Magna will get Chrysler. At least, that company is N.A born and probably could keep Chrysler afloat through the tough times. But GM and Ford would have to have a say, since they're Magna's biggest customers.

Chrysler products are junk! They guzzle gas, they are for idiots that want big horsepower at the expense of massive gas bills, they lack reliability, durability, and are for idiots that never read ConsumerReports....Chrysler dies because it makes junk, and NOBODY can argue with it's horrible track record in sales...they are out of touch, and for customers that are out of touch, that refuse to see the high price of a gallon of gas....the smart $$, the informed buyer buys Japanese....It is patriotic and very AMERICAN to buy the best...to buy a Chrysler product is very UN-American....The UAW and Unions in general are killing off the domestic car industry....Unions are Socialism, and very bad for America, and all countries.

Sooooooooooo how do you back up your facts that Chryler products are junk. Hmmm Lets see there was a 1971 Cuda conv w/ a hemi that sold for over 2 million $$$ and how many Toyota's have sold for that. Oh I and I guess I am an idiot, I drive a 98 Dodge Ram.
My truck gets 19-20 mpg@ 75 mph and I have big tires on it as well. So, again where did you get your facts from? I am curious.

chrysler isnt junk it just needs to improve, they need to update and comeout with newer products. they do get bad gas mileage but what 2 or 3 worse than ford or gm, they are also one of the worse with customer service in the south
