Hello guys,

My AE86 is dead. Bye bye, rest in piece. Where can I find an engine importer in Toronto? Is there a place in Toronto called Lucky Star Engine Importer, or something? I forgot. I need a new motor. I need money first. So my project AE86 is bye bye for now. And I only had my freakin' car for less than three months

Should have bought a S13 Silvia. I would have been more happy now with it..

SIGH, it was good while it lasted. I guess that's it for this year. Its time for me to go out and make money for a new motor. Bye bye, rest in piece 4A-GE! ARGH, it only had 220,000 kms!?! What gives??

my question is, did the head actually give out and crack? or was it something like the the head gasket? find out.. they are 2 very different things.

an s13 would have been nice also, but i am sure they have their own slew of problems to deal with also!!!

ry to find out what the problem is exactly.. try to see what the oil looks like, if there is coolant mixed with it.. i know crappy tire sells this crap you can dump into your rad to seal any kind of coolant leak.. this could be temp, but then try to sell the ae86.. i am sure you can make back what you lost, and then get a silvia!

I'll try to find out. The car is at Elite right now and they are trying to sort out my brake problem.. in addition to the crack. I'll let her rest for a while. I'm in no rush to spend another $1000 on the car - just to maintain the damn thing.

It's hard to sell the car. Bought for $2700 + $1500 (est. cost of parts replaced) = $4200. I don't think anyone will buy my GT-S for $4200.

Kenneth is offering his port and polished head for $300.. which is a little too much to ask for. Another guy I know bought a scrap AE86 and he is offering me his head for a fraction of that cost.

Maybe I will use the cylinders and all the other crap off that scrap AE86 and swapp it onto mine, to save some labour. But I assume that it will still be costly.

Sigh, with $1000 I can buy myself another GT-S. There was a mint AE86 being sold for $600. It was probably in better condition than mine. Well, at least I have the sedan to back me up or else I'm really screwed.

hey kev,

yeah 4200 on your car, and that is just in maintence..

how do you know of this 600$ ae86? coupe/hatch?

what may just end up being easier and not too expensive is just to do a complete engine swap with your friends bluetop... shouldn;t be too expensive at all.. and could solve your problems..

what exactly happened when the engine died tho?

i just want to know for my own references..

you can ask jan, jc@actechpc.com, as he had that swap, but with a red top block, in to his ae86, you can ask him where he got it done and for how much..

then again, just save the ae86 in your garage.. and aquire parts slowly.. and next summer you could have a really nice gze.. or even a really rumbling ge..

ken is nuts.. his prices are too high.. good thing he isn;t a sales man..

I think I know who sells that $600 AE86 cuz "3S-FE" gave me a call last night telling me about it. It's actually one of his friend that's selling it to him. It's modified but he couldn't tell what internal mods the guy has done. I saw that AE86 couple of months back and it doesn't look very good, ie. original red paint rusting, etc. It's got 300,000 km on it.

Can you fit a 3S-GTE into that ae86 cause that would be the best boost of power ever for such a small car.

Andrew, thanks. I'm sending Jan an email asking him about the cost of a swap. Argh, this is frustrating. Bought the car to learn to drive.. but now I'm learning to waist money on crappy maintaince.

Kamuri, funning thing was the the AE86 Corolla GT-S that was being sold for $600 was sold in less than one hour.. after the ad was posted on Trader.ca. I guess somebody wanted the car really badly.

CamryRR, it is possible to swap the 3S-GTE motor but it's pretty much suicidal to put so much power into such a small car. I think somebody in UK has done the swap. Talk about power!@ Hehehe With a 3S-GTE the car will just fly!

booo.. it wasn;t really that great

said it needed major body work..

which i don; find hard to believe at all!!!

you still got what alot of ae86 owners wish they had.. a CLEAN straigh body.. and that is what is getting rare..

4age's are 400$ a pop.. gze's are around $600.. so don't fret too much.. 20v are $600-$800..

The fenders look clean, but who knows what's under that paint - I bet'cha it's bondo! Argh, I wish I knew how to restore bodies. I wonder where I can get trained for doing classic restoration (for american muscles, and vintage automobiles.) That's something I'd like to learn for sure.

Andrew, what do you mean by $400 a pop? A swap? I hope a swap for a factory blue-hat is cheap.

I can get a used, running 4A-GE motor with around 240,000 kms on it for $60, off a scrap AE86.

What I'm worried about is the cost for labour. This sucks! Hehe Oh well. That's the beauty of old school Toyotas!

Waiting for Jan's e-mail..

Where are u from? Would you want to sell the scrap engine and bombed out ae86? If so, how much?

kevin, buy the engine and i'll do the swap for you...it'll take me 5 hours tops. engines go for cheap. you'll spend more money replacing the head than if you just bought a new motor.

if you don't want, sell me your car!!! i need body parts.

lucky star engine importer's

maybe the 20v was more.. like 1400, but still it is still pretty cheap.. the 4age is hard to sell now.. not alot of people want them cuz the cars just rust away.. no point putting in a gem of an engine into a car that is old and crappy.. it is not a supra!

anyways, what i suggest is to get nick to do the transplant.. i can help

lucky star sells their 20v and jdm gze for about 1400. however, they do not have harnesses or ecus!! i can get a 20v ecu from my buddy in Oz at around $150 cdn. remember kev, if you do a 20v transplant, you have to fabricate your own water lines, and cut a hole in the fire wall or get a dli. also, fuel lines have to be fabricated and you'll have to get a custom exhaust manifold/header.

i can do the transplant for you...beit 4age, 4agze or 20v (mind you i've never done a 20v, so it would take longer in order to figure out all the fabrication and where it fits.)But i've done enough 4age engine pulls that its like clockwork.

stick with a bluehat 4age to get it on the rod....save up your peenies and then go from there.

SR5boy: I'm going to keep my car, but thanks for your interest. Good luck in finding one.

Everyone else: Thanks for your offerings to help out with an engine swap. It's too late now, I've bought a head already. All I need to do now, is to save up and do a head swap. This is hell, I hate my AE86.

Thanks,
Kevin

kev, you have to understand that the more negativity you inflict on your car, the worse things will get. its sound flakey but its true...once you start bad mouthing and neglecting it, the car starts to break down.

its an old car....almost as old as you. so yes, patience is needed. you prolly won;t have the car finished to your ideal goal not untill the next few years. it takes time and money. do a lot of reasearch...i mean alot! ask tonnes of questions before you do anything because being an old car, the easiest and cheapest way is not always the most obvious. patience kev, you'll get through this....and exploit me and andrew to the fullest....there's nothing like free help.

Haha, well, I still hate it. I was just kidding.. maybe. I hate how it turned out. I'm the only one out of everyeone to have my head cracked. That's why I'm dissapointed.

I think I know what the problem is, with the rear brake. Elite did something wrong when they replaced my driver-side rear caliper (wrong part maybe?). IT WAS FINE BEFORE THAT! They did some changes to the rear caliper and I'm going to check if it's okay today (I can bet anyone that the problem still exists). If that doesn't work, I'm getting a used caliper from another car. sh**, I'm dissapointed in Elite.. and I had to pay for this junk useless caliper too. It cost so MUCH!!!!!!!

My head is ready to be swapped. I think Elite has evened out the surface and now everything is ready to be swapped. I should get some quotes from different shops.

a common brake caliper should be an easy fix tho.. anyone with a hint of skill can do it right.. unless something is sticking or the caliper is just seized..and not freeing up..

anyways, andrew

kevin, s13 will have their fair share of problemns too....besides, they don't even have the reliable and bullet proof sr20det...the ka is a useless tit.

trust me, every ae owner has/had their problems. I've gone through three motors...first one headgasket blew, second one the distributor teeth ground against the exhaust cam, mashed up one of the valves, and spat it out throught the manifold...not good.

george has blown two motors...that sh** is gonna happen...its a 15 year old car!!!!!

whats wrong with your brakes? what sthe problem? like andrew said, anyone with half a brain should be able to install a rear caliper. bring it by my place and we'll look at it for you.

kevin, before you go to all the shops and buy things and get them to do the work....ask around about the problem, get info, get opinions....you're gonna burn up all your money if you think buying new parts will solve your problem....feel free to ask me anything or even andrew or george.

When i was in the canadian armed forces we learnt that even the best equipement breaks after that long.I remeber that the Leopard c1 tanks we drove where 1974 models refited in 1992 and they broke down too but we drove them hard as hell and they kept on going and are still in servise to this day.

hmmm...what are these cars worth,

Well I don't mind sinking $10k plus into my car.

I figure I had a '98 integra GSR, price of the car new was $28000, plus enough decent suspension pieces to get rid of the understeer $4000 + enough engine mods to satisfy my needs, hmm another $5000, oh and lets not forget standard bolt-ons like shorty shifter, wheels and tires etc. probably antoher $3000. So in total that's over $40k.

I can spend 10k on my AE86 and it's way more fun to drive, much more unique, and it'll be just as quick. It's not an investment, it's a toy and hobby, it's a small price to pay for a load of fun.

I dumped the Integra because of front wheel drive ( my two cars before were rear drive corollas).

My perspective. Just be thankful your not trying to replace a head on an expensive new import with a more exotic engine!

BTW I may have a re-ringed bottom end with low k's to part with this winter. Let me know. It's strong, if you want to see how strong just come for a spin in my car.
