lexusis350 04-02-2007, 07:18 PM April, 1 2007 - Torrance, CA - Following closely on the heels of the release of the IS-F, our CL insiders have learned of a Lexus plan to release "F" models associated with several other Lexus vehicles including the GS, SC and suprisingly the RX. All will have engine variants of the 5.0-liter direct-injected V8 featured in the IS-F. The second "F" model to hit the streets is reported by our sources to be the RX-F in Spring 2008. The most important new feature of the RX-F is the advanced AWD drivetrain which will put power to the pavement via an eight-speed direct sport-shift transmission with paddle shifters. The AWD is expected to nearly eliminate traction issues and Lexus expects the vehicle to accelerate to 60mph in under 4.5 seconds, making it (for now) the fastest production Lexus ever. The AWD is rumored to be offered in the second year IS-F coupled only with a manual 6-speed transmission option. The curb weight of the RX-F has been reduced to 3460 lbs (down from the 4,090 of the current RX350) by implementation of carbon fiber body panels in certain areas, lightweight BBS alloy wheels and Recaro brand lightweight sport seats front and rear with five point harness capability, with a third row of optional smaller Recaro seats in the rear. Our sources at Lexus who asked to remain anonymous said the RX-F will revolutionize the way people view Lexus vehicles on the street. "The styling cues are planned to be very subtle on the RX-F, unless you know what to look for you will never know what blew your doors off" he said with a chuckle adding "Who said soccer moms couldn't have balls". The RX-F will compete directly with the Mercedes Benz ML-63 AMG (503 HP 464 lbs tq) and the BMW X5 4.8 (350 HP, 350 lbs tq).
I hope this news is true.
ECHOKnight2000 04-02-2007, 07:30 PM Sounds very nice! I thought the LF-A was going to be the fastest production Lexus, and what about the IS-F that's reportly going to be the fastest or one of them for Lexus. Anyway can't wait to see the RX-F. I guess to come out with these models faster they just transfer the same powertrain (although tweeked). Interesting.

Most of the Mercedes AMG models have the number "63" in common. If anyone's guilty of multiple powertrain sharing, it's the Merc!
Can't wait to see the RX-F though. Toyota always makes conservative estimates about their vehicles' 0-60 times. This thing will probably be more like a 4.3 sec vehicle!
What models need the F package?
IS: This one's already being made.
ES: Definitely! The 2GR under the hood is nice, but this car has way more potential.
ES-F kinda rolls off the tongue.
GS: Nope. It's already got a high performance hybrid version. Balls and fuel efficiency.
SC: Yes. This car's overdue for a redesign already. If the next-gen SC looks anything
like the LF-C concept on the Lexus website, fitting a 5.0 liter in it will be no problem.
LS: No. Like the GS, it already has a performance hybrid version.
RX: Yeah, it's about time they started working on one.
GX: No, unless they want to make an off-road performance pack.
LX: Not necessary. Once the LX570 hits the streets, it'll be plenty fast!
LF-A: It's basically a street-legal F1 racer. All that's left is to name it...
Bugmenot 04-02-2007, 10:52 PM And the transformation begins!!!:lol::lol::thumbup:
This could also mean Toyota might be in for some performance lovin too.:naughty:
Bugmenot 04-02-2007, 11:06 PM WOW, new AWD too, could this be Toyota's answer for Honda's (SH-AWD)? Now with the help of Subaru; just think of the possiblities.:whatwhat:
84Cressida 04-03-2007, 12:25 AM I'm pretty sure it's an April Fools joke considering you wouldn't see in a Lexus press release "Who said soccer moms couldn't have balls"
Netforcer 04-03-2007, 12:56 AM extra third row of recaro seats?? hmmm... why?
Tideland Prius 04-03-2007, 01:37 AM Errr... is anyone else suspicious about this? Several things pop out
1. RX-F will be the fastest Lexus. Err.. hell no. They'll never let it beat the IS-F
2. CF panels... errr no unless they want it to cost $120k
3. Opt. 3rd row Recaros. That should sound the alarm right there. Along with 2nd row Recaros lol.
4. Subtle? I don't call the IS-F subtle. They won't make the RX-F subtle.
Lastly.. it's an RX for god's sake. Remember what it was called when it was launched in 1998? An SLV or Sport-Luxury Vehicle. IMO, Lexus won't build a performance SUV.
If anything, it's the GS-F next (even though it has a hybrid) or the LF-A.
TRD-MX83 04-03-2007, 02:24 AM It definitely sounds like an April Fools Joke...
Gekko 04-03-2007, 04:32 AM Sounds like a april fools joke.
I've did some metric calculation between the size of the UR-series V8 (IS-F) and GR-series V6 (RX). The V6 in the RX is mounted transverse. The V8 will not fit mounted transverse or otherwise. OK, it will fit, but then there is no room on the side for the gearbox.
The only option I could think of is supercharging the current 3.5 V6 or the RX-F is going to be released on the next gen RX.
TravisAe86 04-03-2007, 08:41 PM it not a joke..it is on the lexus site...and...i....can't...wait

I cant see anywhere on the website where it says anything about the RX-F.......but boy that would be awesome if they make it

DougDangger 04-04-2007, 05:12 PM It'll waste any SUV in Toyota's line up.
Good Day ;)
Dana_15 04-04-2007, 05:28 PM That looks about as bad as a Jeep Compass.....it won't waste a Rav4, it might be faster, but who cares.......soccer mom racing FTW

The force-fed flat-four's combination of torque, gearing, and weight will get you a blazing 0-to-60 time of 5.3 seconds and a quarter-mile of 13.8 seconds at 97 mph, just 0.3 second slower than an $89,665 Porsche Cayenne Turbo (see page 62). -C/D
In the RAV, the curtain comes down on 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, which is just 0.4 second behind a Hemi V-8–powered Dodge Magnum AWD and about two seconds ahead of the RAV’s competitors. -C/D
I don't know the weighs but the RAV4 was the limited version and the Forester was the base model (the 2.5XT Limited with the 230hp they tested in 2006 took 5.5 secs...)
Im pretty sure a Jeep SRT-8 wil waste this RX-F proposal....
EchoHoLiK 04-04-2007, 08:24 PM ^^^ And the Cayenne Turbo S can waste all of the above, on AND off road. So what's the point of these posts making stupid comparisons?
Its just that I find it hard to believe that Toyta is willing to waste resources on a fast SUV that will barley sell. They should be using that money to redo the SC.
EchoHoLiK 04-05-2007, 02:02 AM ^^^ Willingness and mindlessness are two different things. Who says Toyota doesn't have money to do both?
Christian87N 04-05-2007, 03:24 AM I see that everyone else in here missed one very important detail.

If that rumor is true, then we might see 6 speed transmissions offered in lower end trims like the IS350. And if this AWD is more advanced, a less superior version might be offered for the IS350/IS250 awd. This might be the return of manual transmissions for toyota and lexus.
AWD+manual transmission

And how much is the Cayenne Turbo? I'm willing to bet I could buy 3 or 4 of the Subarus for the price of that Porsche.
And how much will the RX-F cost? I'm willing to bet that it'll be a big loser on a performance to dollar ratio. After all, it's a Toyota.

There is comming a MT version of the IS-F. But is is going to be a different IS-F. While the IS-F with the automatic gearbox can be compared with the M3, the second IS-F version (with MT) is going to be a light-weight variant, like the M3 CSL. Dropping in a MT is all about saving weight.
EchoHoLiK 04-05-2007, 05:57 PM More barking noises that I can't be bothered to give a damn about. Time to buy some more Purina to feed the dog who has a brain the size of a lug nut on a Subaru.

as much as I hate the Cayenne, 3 or 4 Forester XTs won't match a Turbo S.

Well at the moment Toyota has more than enough money to wipe their own asses with it so....
