In no way would I suggest that the Tundra is the cause of GM and Ford decline, however I will say, it's nice to see Toyota expand truck sales (even into a declining market).

Hardly a "troubled launch" that some here would like everyone to believe.

That's really got to hurt for Ford, they were already looking large Truck production cuts, this will probably cement that.

At that pace though, it's not going to be 200K a year.

True enough, but as I've said before, no matter what the anechdotal evedence on these boards may be, supply is still constricted, especially 5.7s, and the Crew Max is launching soon, seeing much stronger ordering demand that Toyota anticipated.

I'll hold my victory speech (or concession speech) for a few more months. Just happy to point out Tundra sales are growing in what seems to be a rapidly shrinking market.

Ture, I think the next few months will be the key.

I was supirsed Ford was down so much, they have been giving them away down here. MSRP of $30K for Supercrews have been on sale the last couple of weeks for $19,999, or $18,999 if you finance through Ford

I actually got in a Tundra this weekend. Nice truck, when i closed the door it rattled and seemed kind of cheap, the only other thing I thought was strange was when I went to pull out a compartment, (I think it was the ashtray) it just came right out of the dash.

Oh and the thing I hate about Toyota dealers (at least the 3 around here that I go to every once in a while), is I NEVER can get anyone to acknowledge me. I looked outside for about 10 minutes looking at the ones out there. They were all locked so i went in and got in the one in the show room and spent about 10 minutes looking at it. Messed with the tailgate, opended the hood and looked around, NO ONE ever came up to me. I could understand if everyone was busy, but there were a few sales people standing around. Don't get me wrong, i've had that happen at other dealers too, but almost always without fail I have to go and ask for someone to help me at a Toyota dealer.

It'll pick up steam. Despite the early ad ampain Feburary Tundra sales were very, very shitty. Especially compaired to how well the Camry redesign last year took off within the first month of sales.

Toyota sold 9,669 feb 2007 & 10,566 feb 2006
March sales:
http://www.toyota.com/about/news/corporate/2007/04/03-1-sales.html

Now they just need people to start swapping over so they can sell 50,000 a month like GM.

What's always pissed me off has been how Ford reports F-sieres sales. Those trucks don't have shit to do with each other lol! 150 & 250 year, but passed that & the only common points are some drivetrain components & the crusie control that catches on fire. I'd just like to know what F150 sales are, and F250 sales are. That way people can keep apples with apples.

I think that's just a sales tactic for those particular dealerships you went to. The one I go to actually greets you and stuff. Personally I like to not be bothered by salespeople and fiddle with the cars in the showroom. If I have a question I'd go to them. I never like it when there'd be a salesperson that comes to bother you every 5 minutes or so, which seems like they're desperate, a very off-putting vibe.

Yeah, I don't really like to be bothered to much either, but I would like for someone to say something to me. Perfect salesman to me would be to come over and greet you, give you his car and tell you that if you have any questions or would like to drive it, 'I'll be right over there' kind of deal. Anyway I wasn't going to buy anything so no big deal, it would have really ticked me off if I was looking to buy though. I actually was looking to buy one day, was looking at the Accord (1998), no one helped me, i walked next door, and ended up buying an Intrigue.

I read somewhere that the end of the housing boom is going to hurt Ford worst of all. So many of the F Series were used in the construction of those spec homes.

so you bought a car thats actually not your 1st choice and have to live with it because of the service or lack thereof?

I was interested in the Accord, but since I wasn't getting any service, I thought I would go over and look at the intrigue. I ended up liking it pretty well, so i bought it. I wasn't locked into any car at that point, I just knew the Accord was a good car and wanted to look at it.

I guess I kind of said that wrong in my other post. If I had my heart set on an Accord I would have just went to another dealer and bought one, but I had never driven one at that point. I liked the Intrigue so I bought it.

My parents ended up buying a 99, and an 01 Accord, and I don't think I was missing out by not buying one, I liked the Intrigue better. I ended up not having the intrigue very long, my circumstances changed and wasn't able to afford the payment anymore, but it was a great car while I had it.

I think the whole 200K sales/year for the Tundra has been misinterpreted. The sales goal is to sell 200K in its first "FULL YEAR" on the market. I dont think they expect it to do it for 2007. It would be good if it did, but I would guess it might be more in line with 140K to 160K sales for this year, either way its a better truck than the previous generation which was selling at about 120K already, so it will definately sell more than that.

And all the talk of it taking over the entire market is dumb, since no matter what, Toyota can only eventually build 300K Trucks with its 2 plants, even if they want to, they can't be the #1 truck sales leader now. But if they continue to do what they are doin, the Tundra will eventually take the same path as the Camry and slowly but surely be on the top, unless the Truck market significantly decreases.

Well put. I think in the next 10-15 years Toyota would be content with being in the top 3 for full size truck sales.

Good news indeed! What's it doing on this board?
Anyway I'm relieved and happy the Tundra is doing well (saw a white one today on the way home from work-second one I've seen on the open road), sure not as well as expect and a choppy start but hey you have to start some where, and its a very, very, tough market for full-sized trucks so kudos to Toyota. I'm all for sports car or affordable sporty car from Toyota but I think at this point the majority of the market demands a gas effecient or decent rather than a gas-guzzling sports car but I know not all are like that, obviously it varies.
With all this good news from Toyota my fanboyism is starting to peak its ugly head:lol:

only 13K units sold? If the last Tundra was considered a failure and it was last redesigned in like 99, and this new one with all the hype was only able to do 10% more.

The new Silverado and the Sierra looks ugly IMO. Well, the HD models do. They're long and wide and it seems like somethings missing inbetween. I've seen the new Silverado short bed lowered and it looked awesome. But the long bed and HD models are ugly. I rather get a Avalanche over the F-Series and Silverado. The RAM is probably up in my top list if I ever end up buying a truck. Of course, the Tundra is up there but not my #1 choice.

Yes, but the last one was considered a failure so I dont see how a 10% boost makes the new one such a success. Especially since it has been 8 years since the last redesign.

You also have to consider the fact that the housing market is in a slump and gas is heading towards 3 bucks a gallon once again. And Toyota overpriced the base model 3 grand higher than the competition. With the incentives, it seems Toyota realizes that nobody pays 22 grand for a base truck. I think the sales goal for this year is 140 to 160gs given the fact that the new Tundra didn't come to the market until mid February.

Shhhhh. You're not supposed to use logic on this board. :) It's a Toyota, so it HAS to be the best.

But in all seriousness, I have yet to see even a single new Tundra on the road yet. I would expect as much in Chicago, as there isn't a huge need for a truck here. But even out in the far western burbs, still haven't seen one.

I think they are going to need to drop even more cash on the hood to sell em to the die hard domestic fans here in the heartland.

Every fulll size truck has incentive right now including the new Silverado and Sierra. I wouldn't expect too many TUNDRAs selling in the mid west. It they did, that will be the end of the Detroit 3. But here in the South I have seen quite a few new TUNDRAs. Just give it some time you will see more and more of them.

I never said only the Tundra has incentives on it. You are correct when you say all full sized trucks have money on the hood. My statement was that if Toyota wants to sell more in the heartland, they will need to drop the price of their trucks even more.

Personally, I love GMI. They have their share of fanatics on the board, and some really stubborn members that do seem to be stuck in GM's golden years, but for the most part the majority of the members there are quite level headed. From what I have seen in my brief time on this board, kool aid drinkers are not limited to just GMI. :)

I agree, there are kool aid drinkers on both sites. The thing that gets me about this site is that it seems like there are only a handfull that post regularly from what I can tell. And one post might get 2 or 3 pages of conversation about it. On GMI there is lots of discussion by many different people.

Pricing the CHEAPEST Tundra from Toyota's website gave me:
$22,935
Regular cab, standard bed, 235hp V6 engine, auto tranny, crank windows, manual door locks, no floor mats, no security system.

Going over to Nissan and I priced Titan King Cab:
$26,705
King Cab, standard bed, 317hp V8 engine, auto tranny, power windows & locks, 18" alloy wheels, 6cd mp3 changer, remote entry/security system, floor mats
Oh, I almost forgot, they have $3,500 rebates which brings it to 23,205.

The difference is $270. Hmmm... a larger cab, bigger more powerful engine, power windows/locks, alloy wheels, stereo system, security system... all that for $270?
I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

How does Toyota expect to sell a shitty stripped down truck for nearly $23,000? Are they mad? I hear some Toyota dealers were already offering $1,000 rebates on the new Tundra, not a good sign.

By the way, the dealership where my buddy works have sold 5 of the new Tundras since its debut. They've got about 60 left to sell. To make matters worse, they are scheduled to recieve 18 trucks next week.

At my local dealer on Saturday, they only had 10 Tundras, 8 double cabs, and 2 regular cabs.
5 double cabs with the v6,
3 double cabs with the 4.7,
1 regular with the v6
1 regular with the 4.7

And all were either red or white in color, so it made me think that they probably haven't sold because of color and engine options. the double cabs with the v6, had MSRP ranging from $26K-28K. I think they are going to have a REALLY HARD time selling thoes.

Anyway my point being that they have obviously sold a lot of them because last time I looked at their inventory they had 30+

It looks like TOYOTA is seriously thinking about adding the 4.7L engine to the TACO. I say it is about time the TACO gets some more beef. My only worry is that a V8 TACO might hurt TUNDRA sales.
