ECHOKnight2000 04-15-2007, 12:22 AM ^^^^I really hope that's not it. Its interesting reading the link you gave. All those people who "NEED" a SUV or bus I should say to carry 2 or 3 kids? Are you kidding me? I know there are legit times to carry people in a bigger vehical or tow a boat or whatever but majority of SUVs on the road it seems to be one person per SUV. Obviously you're not going to carry people or boats all the time but its just getting riddiculous. Sorry I'll get off my soap box:rolleyes: :D :o:
Tideland Prius 04-15-2007, 01:05 AM looks like bits of the concept car made it to the Sequoia. The name escapes me at the moment but it's the white concept that looks like a big big xB and has huge curves for feners.
PhatRoyale 04-15-2007, 01:49 AM The front end looks like it was designed by Fisher Price :ugh3:
I doubt that's going to be it.

What about people who live in the northern states and need a 4x4 for driving in snow? Even with an AWD car you are pretty much screwed if the snow is deeper than 6" (the front bumper pushes the snow like a snowplow and you go nowhere).
You could say the same about people who buy sportscars. What good is a car that will do 140 mph when the speed limit is 65?
I personally think that pic of the Sequoia is kinda ugly, but I thought the new Tundra was ugly untill I saw it in person. Now that Ive seen a few in person I think they look awsome.
TravisAe86 04-15-2007, 05:18 PM looks big....wan to bet that it will use the tundra's 5.7 lier engine

I agree with you but I was talking about the fact the majority of SUVs won't see any off roading. Sure its legit to have a car that can take deep snow or that you need for adverse weather but generally speaking you see them with one person going to the mall. And now that crossovers are becoming more popular I highly doubt most of them are built for off road (there could be some exceptions) but most are for bad weather on the road which isn't a bad thing. Sports cars are nich' market so that doesn't cout:lol:  Anyway I don't want to get into a pissing contest, we'll just leave it at that.
Bakemono 04-17-2007, 12:09 AM Im not looking to get into a pissing match either, Im just saying that different people have different tastes in vehicles.
To say that no one has a need for a fullsize SUV is an ignorant statement, IMO...

Can't wait to see the real Sequoia.
I am sure, based on the impressive Tundra engineering, the new Sequioa will not let us feel the Land Cruiser absence..
PS... why this topic in the General Discussion area...??? See above for the kind of people/responses you will get here now.

Well, if gas was $6-$8 dollars gallon here in the states like it is in much of the rest of the world, Im sure more Americans would be willing to drive minibuses.
When gas is fairly cheap, why not go for a bigger, roomier vehicles even if it gets poor fuel economy? :dunno:
Look, Im not advocating huge SUVs that get 10 mpg, Im just saying, "different strokes for different folks".

I agree. This thread should have been moved to the Toyota News section.

The Tundra is a nice piece, but "impressive engineering". . . . .not so much (though a case could be made for the engine). And before you and the other “Captain Toyota’s” start calling me out as a “basher” or “hater”, I would say the same thing about the new GM offerings. . . . . Oh well. . . .
With that being said, I like the look of the rendering. I'm anxious to see what it's going to look like. . . .

Indeed. Over at the Prius forum (not TT's Prius forum but another) people were saying that if gas went up to $4/gal, then SUV sales would start declining.
The problem is is that it's already $4/gal up here in Canada and our SUV sales aren't declining so you can be sure as hell that it won't happen in the States.
Maybe $6-8 like you said might work but it better go to creating better transit services and not to the oil companies.
gonzo08452 04-18-2007, 12:13 AM It kind of looks like an evolution of the current Dodge Durango:disappoin

My Sequoia gets me 19.76mpg on the highway with tires inflated to 38psi but still we use it only when my two kids, my parents, my wife and I..... all need to go somewhere together. Other times, smaller car is used... There are ways to avoid having one person driving the Sequoia all the time.
CarGuyLee 04-18-2007, 09:00 AM It is you.
No, it does look like a large HHR, with smaller headlights. Now if someone said it looked like a PT cruiser, I would disagree. :D

So what do you think it is? The thread is titled 2008 Sequoia????? That's obviously what the OP thought it was. Are you just being a jerk to be a jerk? Well you proved it with that reply bud.
syr74 04-18-2007, 01:56 PM My first question regarding the upcoming Sequoia is very simple...how much? Unless Toyota has done some serious rethinking in repsonse to the Tundra pricing issue my guess is that most folks may as well prepare for a serious case of 'the vapors'. And if that is the case they may as well stick the LC badge on it and get all the mileage they can out of that moniker, they'll need the prestige it brings to the table.
aznstylez 04-18-2007, 02:11 PM Only when it needs to.

SUVs's sales don't decline, some people just trade in their SUVs for a smaller fuel efficient car. Which did happened last year, it was all over the news.
Lasse D 04-18-2007, 02:23 PM My first question regarding the upcoming Sequoia is very simple...how much?
The answer from the rest of the world is the same as for all other over sized American SUVs: "Not enough!"
kpopple 04-18-2007, 05:56 PM Maybe it's just me, but is the front end of that "Sequoia" photoshopped? The more I look at it, the more I think it is.
I found this picture, I think it's different than the original one posted on here, but it also shares some of the styling cues of the new Tundra.

Oh yes, the rest of the world...thats right, I remember now, I don't really care what the rest of the world thinks and am uncertain why the rest of the world would assume that I do.
That said, while I do think that the recent phonomenon of every other middle-class mom in America driving a full size suv may just be the most pathetic sight ever witnessed on American highways, I wont apologize for the trucks themselves because there actually are people who have a use for them on this side of the pond. Unfortunately, that only applies to about ten percent of customers at best.

Unless new suv owners sprout up to take their place that would consitute a decline in suv sales. I for one am glad to see it. With soccer moms defecting from the suv camp in droves perhaps we can expect a resurgence of real suv's again. You know, vehicles that can actually go off-road instead of vehicles that simply look like vehicles that can actually go off-road.
Lasse D 04-19-2007, 01:49 PM Oh yes, the rest of the world...thats right, I remember now, I don't really care what the rest of the world thinks and am uncertain why the rest of the world would assume that I do.
Thank you for pointing out one of the great issues.

Hence: "Not enough!". Why not heighten the price and let's see who really needs the over sized SUVs?

I'm sorry, do I owe the international community something of which I am unaware?

Oh, fantastic idea. Lets punish the people who genuinely need these trucks since they will be the only ones willing to pay more than they are worth assuming we do jack the price up into the stratosphere....that will show those soccer moms!

Wow. Getting touchy now, aren't we?
Of course you don't owe the International community anything. As an American you are free to pollute twice as much as all of Europe without having to do anything about it.
And punish? Isn't USA the "richest country in the World"? I'm just suggesting the idea of something that might remind about some problems regarding these vehicles. You know. Like the warning on many coffee cups in your country telling you that they might contain hot content.
I sense a confrontation is about to happen!
I'm outta here!:burnout:
