Looking for suggestions on improving my mileage, averaging 29mpg. Have never hit over 31 mpg even for freeway driving, very disappointing.

The car has 12k miles, driven since Oct '06. Automatic.

My commute is primarily freeway 50 miles per day. It can be stop and go at places. Otherwise, 60-70 miles-per-hour.
One steep hill for 1/2 mile coming out of my neighborhood.

I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic since my first oil change at 5k miles and again at 10k. Using Wix oil filters. By 5k, the oil looks black.

I'm ready to take it in to the shop to check the computer settings.

thanks,

Al
ps. I commute in Seattle (from North of Seattle, Richmond Beach to Downtown Bellevue).

About 2 months ago. I just wanted to see what other people were getting. I got some replys and I think it was about 25-28 across the boad. I asked because I have a supercharger and put it on before I could go through a full tank.....BTW I only get 23-26.

My 92 Camry and 96 Legacy both average 26mpg and mid 30s in highway.
Was hoping for at least 33mpg overall.

Al Garay...that sounds about right..you can add all those fuel saver goodies and it will still be the same....fuel saving is base on a lot of other factors (Driver, Gas Prices, Miles, Maintains, climate, etc....)

I'm not sure of your driving habits, but I certainly get better mileage than that. I have an '07 Corolla CE, and I get ~28-29 in the city (DC driving, so a good amount of stop and go), and up to ~36.5mpg on the highway (Calculated a trip from MD to NC, going ~70-85 the entire way).

my 94 1.8L 5-spd gets 35 mpg all highway going 65-70 mpg. Check your tire pressure, make sure they're not low, you can even increase it a bit. Do a tune-up, spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap and rotor, air filter, oil filter, o2 sensors.

One more thing, with the hot temperatures lately, using the A/C will decrease your mpg a bit.

I'm going to check my tire pressure. I believe it's been around 32 to 34psi with the stock GoodYear Integrity tires. I will try 37psi.
