hi im just wondering if anyone knows what my problem is...when i turn off my car most of the time it will run on almost like sputtering or something. It varies from 1-5 seconds and can get quite "violent". Is it the timing belt or what? I really dont know much about that part of my car so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be that its not closing the fuel/air delivery properly. Bad gasoline would do the same also if your engine has lots of carbon build up, it would do that.

Weekend is coming.
Drive to Hull as fast as you can and party.
Should blow off some of the carbon.
(Try a nice long highay drive with some fuel injector cleaner added to the gas, Toyota's is best.)

I tend to do alot of highway driving anyway so i dont know if that would help....so does everyone think that its just excess carbon or is there another problem that could be causing this to happen???

i dont think its that becuase it runs perfectly on the highway etc...it only does that when i turn the car off...it also hesistates and almost stalls when the engine is cold. I also noticed that it wont shift into 4th when the its still cold...once its warm its fine. Anyone have any idea...its really annoying and im kinda scared it will break something expensive

It's called dieseling. My old mustang used to do that.

Actually, it occurs to me that you may have a problem with running too rich. To me that would explain both the stalls when cold and dieseling after shutting down. Dunno what the cause for that could be, sorry :(

Well when someone says what it could be, go look at that part and maybe take it apart, see if it looks messed up. Take apart your carb and see if your diaphram is broken like Flashm said. If you don't know how, then get a manual, they also have trouble-shooting sections that could help you. :)
