How much to port and polish

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have any idea how much it costs to port and polish a head?

The head on my car is cracked and I'll be needing a new one. I have two options, tell me which one is better:

used regular head with cyliners, springs, valve, etc - $60-80 (estimated cost)
used port and polished head without the extras - $300

Uck, anyone willing to lend me money? Haha, seriously, I don't know if I have enough saved up to pay for a new head and the $900 estimated labour fee!

I think the labour will be cheaper if I bought the port and polished head, I think. Then again, I'm technically challenged in terms of how cars work. So I need somebody's advice!

s13.. don;t we all

hahaha

anyways, i think THINK that that labour cost is probably exactly the same if you were to swap the engine.. soo.. that would make me wonder if it is worth swapping the engine and doing the clutch disc since i am goingin there..

ken's 300$ head has all those springs, valves etc etc.. it is complete and good to go..

but what i would do.. take that 60$ head. and get the cams from yuor dead one, go to ted components and tell him you want to do that weld-on job on those 2 cams, and bang for 260$ you have better performance than a port and polish alone..

besides.. you have other places to spend money on that car, so maybe just the 60$ head would be ok?

check the labour first..on an engine swap.. say same engine, but maybe newer..lower milage.... just that the Small port one intake manifold points in the wrong direction when in a ae86 chassis..

no idea man... sit on it..

Andrew, unfortunately, I don't have an extra $200 to spare for the cams. I would do it, but I intend on swapping engines in the future. All I want is to get the car running again, for the cheapest cost avail..

$900 labour includes:

1) taking the heads off BOTH AE86
2) bringing the new head to a machine shop to see what modifications will be needed to put the new head onto my old block for a perfect fit. (Elite says it may not be 100% fit due to age. The shape of my block may warp just ever so slightly... or something like that)
3) putting everything back together

I can minimize the cost of labour (from #1)by purchasing Ken's head since it's already been taken apart.

Let me give Kenneth a call tonight and see if he can give me a cheaper deal.

Hehehe, hey hey, I like powerwheels. I always wanted one as a child.

The thought of having a 3S-GTE in my car makes me shiver. I don't think I can handle that kind of speed. Hehehe

Go-go-powerwheels!

Okay, here is the new deal.

I can get a running 4A-GE, blue-hat motor with an estimated 210,000kms, for cheap.

Can somebody give me an estimate of how many hours it will take to do an engine swap for the exact same motor as what I have now.

Andrew, Jan still hasn't e-mailed me back about the cost to do a swap. I need to find out asap!

Thanks,
Kevin
