Maim Menu 11-06-2007, 06:41 PM I announced the car on Kijiji last Saturday, they called me yesterday, came in today, gave me 2500$ in straight cash, slapped a business plate on it and took off just like that.
Middle Eastern guys know how it should be done. They didn't even ask about the winter tires I was giving away, but then again, I guess you don't need them in Algeria either...
They run an import/export business in Montreal, thought that was pretty interesting, they told me by the end of the week this car wouldn't be in America anymore.
Mo-NEY!!
touringcamry 11-06-2007, 06:54 PM A legitimate Nigerian scam? I call BS.
papariccardo 11-06-2007, 06:57 PM gave me 2500$ in straight cash!!
Lucky it was cash. Many guys get caught selling internationally with wire transfer payments. The money shows in your account, the car gets shipped, and as the car arrives in Africa, the transfer is bounced. Your account ends up in massive overdraft (or your own cash gets pulled) and you can do nothing about it. International money transfers have a 6mth window where the sender can bounce it with no reason needed.
Can't bounce cash tho! Have you checked the quality of the notes?
aren't you supposed to transfer the tittle of the car and stuff at the SAAQ. I believe in Quebec cannot just slap on an F plate and drive around you need insurance also. Unless the guy had an X plate then it would all made sense.
Maim Menu 11-06-2007, 07:10 PM He had an X plate, it's all good and clear. They have their business in St-Laurent on Deguire Boulevard, they always look for high mileage Camrys and Accords and also CRVs. They probably bring the ODO back and put a 100$ paint job on them and resell.
Papariccardo : That shit don't bounce :D

Your shout! Canadian beer is excellent, I've discovered.
95PimpingCamry 11-06-2007, 07:18 PM ^^ Man, why does your money look so cool, and our's is just boring green? I swear, the US has the most boring money ever!
EvoFire 11-06-2007, 07:22 PM Our money are different colors of the rainbow.
$20 is green
$50 is red
$100 is brown
The old $1000 was purple.
That's cool that they took ur car to africa... It just seems kind of weird.
Maim Menu 11-06-2007, 07:37 PM Have you checked the quality of the notes?
Yeah, everything's there, hidden portraits that you see through light, correct hologram colors depending on angle.
Evofire : Yeah it's wierd, but I don't really care. Maybe it'll show up on some cool "drifting" video on youtube...
Honeslty at first I was a little nervous but when I saw his X plate and checked the money through light I was all set.
Funny : I put the bills in my pocket and decided to go take a piss, holding a bill in one hand looking at it through my bathroom light and my dick in the other. Walked out, "Here's the key!"
I was aware of all the international wire transfers going awry and everything so cash was alright with me....
gladis 11-06-2007, 07:41 PM I reckon market there for old high mileage japanese cars is not bad. They have little regulation there compared to us, and they can make a handy profit selling these beaters.

Yep, I find it hard in the US - always having to read carefully the value of each note, rather than work it out fast by colour or size.
Check this NZ millenium note - surfing, skydive, etc, the way kiwis roll, yo! And it's made of plastic, cant tear it unless you nick it's edge. (I've won so many pub bets on this it's not funny. You can't tear it at all by normal means)

That's what he told me, honestly I'm almost tempted to start hunting around cheap japanese beaters to put on Kijiji. In less than 4 days I got about 30 calls. One from a student in Toronto and another from some guy in Quebec city. The rest was all Arabic guys looking to ship it out. Interesting really.
nitehawk55 11-06-2007, 10:24 PM I've seen a lot of scams on Kijiji where the car is priced very low ( a 2004 VW Jetta W/ 45000 miles on it ) for around $4000 and the car is in Alberta at the Ebay car compound ( yeah right ) and the seller is a soldier in the CDN military and one of 2500 NATO troops in Spain ? **cough**...BS !!
bigbird 11-06-2007, 10:37 PM scam or not u got some extra chash now.
CharmCityES 11-06-2007, 10:42 PM made some damn good money for a scam....
here at the dealrr i work at, some nigerian diplomats paid 500k in cash for 14 camry XLE V6's with nav and two 5.7 tundra limited 4x4's to ship back to nigeria....its werid but some of this stuff is really legit....those camrys could be bombs now for all we know, but hey its cash in hand
xtremeskier97 11-06-2007, 11:13 PM Unless of course the cash is counterfeit. Have you checked it's authicity(sp?)?
Maim Menu 11-07-2007, 07:29 AM LOL it IS real cash.
ejaymclane 11-07-2007, 08:00 AM They proabbly pay alot for cars like the Camry in African countries. In the UK people steal cars to order, hide them in crates and ship them to Africa/Middle East. There are car parks full of stolen luxury cars in those countries with new plates ready to be sold on. I saw a documentary on it. Oh, and..

I went to Canada and was surprised how similar Canadian money is to British. The coins are almost identical.

Maim Menu 11-07-2007, 10:11 AM We don't have 50 Cent coins anymore, since like 10-15 years.
BlueFusion6851 11-07-2007, 10:41 AM I have a half-dollar piece, but it's U.S. ;)
ghettosled 11-07-2007, 11:23 AM too bad you cant track where the car goes. lojack anyone?
my brother donated a car to a cancer foundation. three months later he gets a phone call from the state troopers of a nearby state. they found 'his' car abandoned on the highway and had it towed. the person who bought the car from the foundation never registered it so it was still under my brothers name. he probably could have gotten the car back but instead called the foundation and they took care of it.
Maim Menu 11-07-2007, 11:49 AM The car's not under my name as soon as the X plate goes on it.
Xplates are transport plates, selling your car to someone that has an xplate is the easiest thing, you don't have to transfer the car's registration, you sign the paper stating he's taking posession, you give the guy your current registration and he takes off with it. Otherwise I would've had to go to the SAAQ for registration transfer and everything. Pretty sweet deal.
If I do this again, for example I buy another cheap beater, I go to the SAAQ to trf it to my name, get a registration certificate for it and a transit plate to drive it home, then give the guys a call, they come with an X, give cash, then pick it up. Rinse, repeat as many times as good deals come by.
