pathfinder1810

I've searched the threads, but here goes. I need to replace the engine in my daughters 2001 Corolla. I've found several motors from different sources ranging from used to rebuilt. My main concern is which year models of Corollas engines will fit directly into the 2001 without a bunch of mods. I've found two low mileage engines, one from a 2005 and another from a 2006 Corolla and I've been told that they would fit directly with no mods. I've also been told that I need to get an engine from a 1999 through a 2002 model for it to fit correctly with no mods. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate your help and advice.

wouldnt see why a 99-02 engine would fit since the only difference between the two would be the fornt end and the addition of VVTI, at least as far as i know anyway. Well the VVTI wasnt added untill 01 anyway.

TenZen: Haven't we established already that 00 is when VVTi was added? :ugh3:
Some of us tried to install a 03+ engine but the intake and radiator hose gets in the way of each other. So an engine from 00-02 is the way to go.
But pathfinder1810 what happened to the old engine that you can't just have it rebuilt? Or you can't have the car down for too long?

sorry to raise this thread from the dead, so if I were to add a 1zzfe with vvti to my 98 corolla, would I still need to have the wire harness modified? or is it a direct drop swap? thnx

New wire harness. There's no point to swap unless your motor is shot. You'll gain a net gain of 5, if not less, hp. You'll need a new ECU as well.

Are zz's like the a's where they usually require no modification to drop the engine in? Can I put a 2zzge and just replace the ECU, wire harness, and motor? what about the tranny?
thnx

You'll need to retrofit the transmission in for a 2zz and the 2zz may require custom motor mounts.
