Are spacers safe?nuchieboy 03-04-2008, 05:55 PM well i want to get some wheels for my 97 camry and i was looking at the solara 17X7 but the offset is 50 and i dont know how well thats going to workout...i basically want to know if spacers are safe? Venom_5 03-04-2008, 06:02 PM like most things .... they are safe in small doses WhiteRabbit 03-04-2008, 06:05 PM can they be safe? yes. are they safe? no. it really depends on the application and fitment. some people who use spacers with built in studs have had their wheels come loose and fall off before O_O Venom_5 03-04-2008, 06:34 PM H&R makes good spacers ... but i wouldnt get anything larger than 15mm without extended studs ONE_to_HATE 03-04-2008, 07:40 PM ^^ LOL. you crazy ass- would you really run a 15mm spacer on original studs? 5mm MAX on original studs. 10mm-15mm you'll need 45" studs. it can be safe if done right- meaning don't cut corners on what connects your wheels to your car. LOL. goodluck. nuchieboy 03-04-2008, 07:57 PM onetohate i like those rims on that green gen 4 camry in ur signature pic...what kind are they? and do they bolt right up with no fitment problems? Durrby 03-04-2008, 08:14 PM I've been running 5mm spacers on original studs for about a year with no problems. Hajoca 03-04-2008, 08:35 PM Bolt pattern is OK, if offset is too great (5 mm seems OK), then get longer studs. If you are not concerned, make sure that you can torque the nuts to approx 70 ft-lb and no threads on the stud are deformed. Could you count how many turns of nut before it is finger tight? the thread is a 1.5mm pitch, or 1.5 mm per turn. with a 15mm difference, you are losing 10 threads of 'grip' on each fastner. Search IS rims and camry, I believe the PN is also available in those threads. nuchieboy 03-04-2008, 09:05 PM is those r is 300 rims how do they fit on a gen 4 camry? they have the same offset as the solara rims which is 50 Arisotezza18 03-05-2008, 12:36 AM Usually if you buy the H&R or ichiban spacers, they come with the extended studs. I have 10mm ichiban spacers on my car and they came with longer studs. They are hubcentric too. ONE_to_HATE 03-05-2008, 09:18 AM ^^ so at that rate.. what offset are you running overall with the spacers? spacers on all 4 wheels or just back? nuchieboy 03-05-2008, 03:24 PM ^^^ onetohate are those really the is300 rims on that green gen 4 camry in ur signature pic? '_' 03-05-2008, 03:44 PM ^^They appear to be IS wheels Venom_5 03-05-2008, 03:52 PM one_to_hate: i would buy 15mm and machine them down to 12mm but really, i would just buy wheels with the correct offset if i could -SCWEET1- 03-05-2008, 03:54 PM Oh god....... to this thread.... LOL! ONE_to_HATE 03-05-2008, 04:32 PM nuchie- yes they are is300 wheels- if you like 'em.. they can be had around the $400-450 range with tires on craigslist. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/592809304.html venom- make me a pair if you do; i have no clue how to play the offset game. Milton- 18x8 for a gen4 camry; what offset would look haul ass? i was thinking 30. Venom_5 03-05-2008, 04:41 PM One_to_hate ... just measure the distance from the outside face of your wheel to the lip of your fender ... whatever that is, thats the size spacer youre going to want so if the distance is ~25mm, then a 25mm spacer will put the face of the wheel flush with the fender ... if its a size that H&R doesnt make, then you machine their next highest size down :) nuchieboy 03-05-2008, 05:46 PM nuchie- yes they are is300 wheels- if you like 'em.. they can be had around the $400-450 range with tires on craigslist. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/592809304.html venom- make me a pair if you do; i have no clue how to play the offset game. Milton- 18x8 for a gen4 camry; what offset would look haul ass? i was thinking 30. i dont get it...i figured 50mm offset wouldnt fit...my local tire shop told me 42 was the highest i could go -SCWEET1- 03-05-2008, 06:00 PM nuchie- yes they are is300 wheels- if you like 'em.. they can be had around the $400-450 range with tires on craigslist. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/592809304.html venom- make me a pair if you do; i have no clue how to play the offset game. Milton- 18x8 for a gen4 camry; what offset would look haul ass? i was thinking 30. A +30 on a 18x8 would be cool, just remember to use a 225/40 or even a 215/40 if you are slammed.... One_to_hate ... just measure the distance from the outside face of your wheel to the lip of your fender ... whatever that is, thats the size spacer youre going to want so if the distance is ~25mm, then a 25mm spacer will put the face of the wheel flush with the fender ... if its a size that H&R doesnt make, then you machine their next highest size down :) I think he has the spacer thing down, noob!! I had talked to him about it last year, all he is asking now, is a wheel offset.... lol Venom_5 03-05-2008, 06:09 PM milt: venom- make me a pair if you do; i have no clue how to play the offset game. :dunno: | |
