Hey guys, I have some rust on the wheel wells of my 97' T-100 SR5. Every truck I have seen here in MN has rust in the same place. I have sanded removed all the rust and repainted 2 times but it still comes back. Any suggestion other than MAJOR surgery?

Thanks

You want to use POR-15 (http://www.por15.com/)...

Can that be sanded, painted and clear coated over? The website says it's for frames ect. not body panels.

You could use some electrolysis and create some black iron oxide on the metal...then prime and paint over that. ;)

There are other commercial rust inhibitors that might be easier fer you in the long run. Did you put down a coat of rust prevention first before you primed and painted? :(

Yes, the first time I sanded, applied naval jelly, rinse, apply rust converter, primed and painted. The second time I sanded, sandblasted all rusted areas primed and painted. In a last stitch effort before performing surgery i was going to drill through the rusted areas and refill with JB WELD sand and repaint.

Did you check behind the wheel well...not sure if the undercoating is still good or not. POR-15 would work well there... ;)

Yes checked inside the well and that could use some por-15, however I believe the rust is originating from the seam at the lower wheel well.
