Welcome to the forums!

How badly is yer tank rusted? Is it rusting on the inside? Use the POR-15 Gas tank sealer kit (http://www.por15.com/prodinfo.asp?number=S7Q&dept=12)...

If it's on the outside...you could use their POR-15 Rust preventative coating (http://www.por15.com/prodinfo.asp?grp=1&dept=1) to arrest and halt the rusting now. :D

Only other option is to git a tank from the parts yard... ;) Try www.car-part.com and save some big bucks!

I haven't dropped the tank yet to find the exact location of the rust... if I only fill the tank half full, it doesn't leak! thanks for the ideas, I'll figure something out!

Git some piccies if you find the location. It would be interesting to see if it's a common area... :D

My gas tank started leaking one day. I phoned everywhere for an aftermarket tank, when I couldn't find one, I looked into getting a new one, and it was going to cost $1400 installed. Instead, I took it to a Radiator repair shop. He took it down, drained it, fixed it and put it back up full for $340.

Apparently rocks and dirt had gotten between the tank and protector and rusted out a square foot of tank. He fiberglassed it and coated it inside and out with a bed lining type gas tank sealer/protector. Have had no more problems and it was quite a bit cheaper.

Looking on Car-part.com the cheapest ones are going fer about $40 and the high side is about $262.50. It's under Fuel tank... ;)

Just replaced mine bought a brand new tank for $400 shipped online. Aftermarket tanks are nonexistant don't waste your time. The rust is most likely located on the underside of the tank just below the straps. Make sure when you wash the truck get that area very well.

would it be a good Idea to use this stuff as a preventive maintenance ?

Well...since you already have the tank off and if you follow the instructions correctly/completely...then sure it would be a good choice to do this as a preventative maintenance procedure. Unless you like changing out gas tanks up in yer area... ;)
