Which gas should i put in my camry 2001(105k miles)? I used to put the highest b/c my car had a hard time starting. Now that is fixed, which gasoline should i put in my car? Should i stick to 89 or 92? I heard some cars dont fully utilize the more expensive gas. So what do you guys put?

Edit: Would it be better for the engine(last longer) if i used a higher grade than 87?

I've been using the cheap stuff, but that's because I don't really notice any differences between octanes I4 Camry 2000

According to the owner's manual you should be good with the 87

Been using 87 and will continue to, especially with the rising gas prices.

I use 87 and I don't think it has any adverse effect on any of my cars. A number of years ago I tried using the higher grades, but found no significant advantage that would offset the difference in cost. I may have gotten slightly better mileage, but it was so little it could have been the way I drove when the higher octane was in the tank.

87 octane is at $3.60 in northern Ohio, so I certainly wouldn't look at more expensive gas. fortunately I got 30 gallons of free gas Sunday with our "fuel perks" from our purchases at the grocery store, so the recent spike hasn't been felt yet.

There is absolutely no reason to run anything higher than 87 octane in your car if toyota does not call for it and you have not modified your engine to run w higher compression. The octane rating is simply the anti-knock quality of the fuel.

Just use which grade you wanna use. If you wanna use 87 that's fine but I personally prefer premium gas just coz I can't stand the power loss using regular gas. I'm no expert nor a mechanic but I really do feel the difference. $3.00 more per full tank isn't so bad.

yea i use 89 to make myself feel better :DLOL! You know what, I've never used 89. It's either 87 or 91-93 but mostly 91-93. I've never had a full tank with 87 5 in a row. By the 2nd full tank I can already feel the power loss and knocking using 87 whether it's a 4 or 6 cylinder.

My mom said the asshole was on TV today talking about how "American's needs to prioritize more". What a load of bullshit! My Camry costs almost $58 to fill up, and two years ago it was $40 at the most.

Regular Unleaded - 87

One thing I will add is that I always buy from one of these retailers (mostly Chevron).

I will ONLY get higher grade gas if it's the same price as 87 octane. The only advantage higher octane gas has is anti-knock properties.

lol, consider yourself lucky.

Here the cheapest is 3.90, and the gas we use (Shell) is 3.95... lucky I get 28-30 mpg though. Not bad for a 12 year old family sedan.
