Burned Axle?

1996 T-100 SR5, 2-wd; 140,000 miles; daily work truck.

I just replaced the front rotors and pads, repacked the bearings and flushed the brake system. I found this burned spot on the driver's side but not on the passenger side. The bearings showed no sign of problems and were pristine. I cleaned them in the parts washer and examined with a loupe -- nice shape for 140,000 miles. Probably should have replaced, but I forgot to buy a new set. :o:

Opinions???

Thanks!

Dave

Are you the original owner? Could've been the previous owner's lack of maintenance one time and burned up the bearing thus heating up the spindle... ;)

Oopsies! Forgot to mention I am the second owner since 23,500 miles. Previous owner was the local Toyota Dealer ans used as a demo and general run around truck.

We've had lots of burned spindles in military vehicles and as I recall the PMCS and depot level maintenance recommendation was to leave it be unless it was "really burned", as in scarred, melted, etc.

Think I'll let sleeping dogs lie.

Thanks!
