Steering wheel vibrates @ 110 k/hour

Hi There,

I changed the rims/tires and balanced, it doesn't help.

At a 100 I'm ok, at 120 its ok ?????

I don't know what to try next....alignment?

i had the same problem before...
when that happens...it calls for a suspension upgrade..

ur spring/struts are too worn out...old.

they arent pushing your wheels down on the road enough so when ur going highspeed, the spring jiggles up and down because it isnt strong enough anymore...and ur getting that vibration transfered to your car body.

Could be your brake rotors need to be turned. But in my experience, that's usually not speed-dependent. If you touch the brake pedal, does it pulse at any speed?

How many miles (km) are on it? If you're up around 150K miles, your wheel bearings might be going bad. What you described is similar to what mine was doing before I replaced wheel bearings.

For the struts.....wouldn't it be a problem also at 120k/h? The steering stops vibrating at 120.

the breaks are ok, I get no pulsating at all...it has happened to me before I can usually feel it on the breaks ...the bearings maybe ....its got 135 k on it ...

uhm... most basic fix is a wheel balance.

at that speed youhit the resonance of those wheels and if they aren't balanced, you get massive vibrations. end of story.


Just read you balanced them... bad balancing probably. as if it only does that at a certain speed, it's a balance issue.

i would say that it is a wheel problem. if you got the tires balanced, the tires need to be checked for high road force. it is sidewall stiffness, if one part of the sidewall is harder than an other part then it is going to feel like your car is riding on eggs. if the road force numbers are too high then you are going to get some better quality tires.

I am getting this problem around 120 also. I am looking into changing my Dog Bone that might help!!!!

No pulsing on the brakes, eh? That pretty much rules out the brakes then, IMHO.

Just thought of another possibility. Check your tie rods for free play. Jack up each front tire and try to rotate the wheels in a direction that they'd move when they're turning left and right. If you feel significant clunking that might be the cause. A little bit is normal. Yeah, I know that's pretty damn vague. If you take it in for an alignment, ask them to check it too. Or just take it in to them and ask them to check it. Most places would be happy to do it for free on the chance they can sell you some services.

You've got 135k km on it?... not miles, right? If it is km, that seems a bit early for wheels bearings to go bad. Do you run on rough roads a lot, or drive it pretty hard?

So you put "new" rims and tires on it?... That would rule out a bad tire or bent rim.

I'd still betcha it's your wheel bearings. Before I replaced mine, it would vibrate like mad between 65 and 75 MPH. Above or below that, it was a lot better; still there, but much reduced. It also had another resonance at around 20-25 MPH. Very much lower in amplitude, but noticeable. Everywhere else, speed-wise, it vibrated, but not as bad.

I am getting this problem around 120 also. I am looking into changing my Dog Bone that might help!!!!

I changed the dog bone and I feel a difference on the highway. As i drive faster (120km/h) the car feels less jerky.
