It's true! You're not dreaming! We have been heard! Toyota officially proposes the return of the AE86! Get yourself the latest copy of Car and Driver and get your fingers turning to page 36. The new Hachi will be built on the current IS300 platform and will be equiped with either a heavily tuned 1.8l or 2.0l! and of course rear wheel drive!

Were the sketches we all have seen the real deal?

Yes friends, Toyota's future looks very sporty!

If anybody else can find any other info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Cool,

That's great! Let me go out and take a look at the new issue of Car and Driver.

Based on the Lexus IS300? Heavily tuned 1.8L or 2.0L motor? Eer, is Toyota trying to compete with the Type-R? It doesn't sound economical at all with a 2.0L engine?

The AE86 is irreplaceable.. Like the Mini Cooper. The new ones can never replace the old ones. No where even close to being as classy as the old ones.

But hey, Toyota is manufacturing rear-wheel drive model cars, and that's enough to make many of us happy!

Question, why did they stop the production of the supra...it seemed to be an almost one fo a kinda stock car at the time, and nothing could realy keep up with it besides a TT 3000GT...?

One of a kind? You must have forgotten about the 300ZX and RX7, as well as the 3000GT you mentioned. All TT, 3 out of 4 were RWD, 3 out of the 4 were six cylinders....se what I am getting at? Not one of a kind at all.

Back in 1993, 50K for a supra turbo was too much. They just didnt sell. In 1997, Toyota dropped the prices. The turbo model went for 40K. Even then, the SUV craze was starting so the car still didnt sell.

Back in 1993, $50k for a car was a lot of money. Assuming 3% inflation each year, that is about $73k in today's dollars.

They stopped selling the Supras because there was little demand for them. Sport cars gave way to SUVs, not that sports cars sell all that well, nor are they very profitable vechicles.

As for AE86 built on IS300 chasis with tuned 2.0 motor: It was sold in Japan and called Altezza! Basically the same as an IS300 but with a 200HP 3SGE motor.
