2010 Toyota Prius Interior Spyshot!

Here's the latest set of spyshots with an interior shot.

My thoughts:

1. The console kinda steps on the first two gen's open concept where there wasn't much intrusion between the front passengers.

2. Nice that they still kept the joystick but it's taking up more space than necessary on the console. (Obviously to appeal to more people, it's in a normal place) You could still have the tray below but only have that separate auto-climate control screen intrude out (think RX or 1st gen Highlander) and still have a gap between the dash and the centre console box.

3. Nicely done with hiding the two centre vents and incorporating them into the dash

4. The screen is a bit lower than before and seems to be the same 7" size (most are moving into 8 and 9")

5. The integrated passenger seatbelt warning light between the airbag and the upper glovebox is nice.

6. The seat bottom doesn't look any longer than the current one. I hope it is. Extra thigh support would be nice

7. It appears the console box slides backwards to open rather than the normal flip up (if not, then that lid/armrest is really far back).

8. Is that an indicator on the mirror??

9. It appears the rear brake lights are two vertical strips of LEDs??

10. Sucks that they're still using the bumblebee antenna rather than in-glass.

11. It appears that they did experiment with projector headlights (as seen with the earlier spyshots of the white Prius) but for whatever reason, Toyota went with multi-reflector-type

12. I still don't know what the bumper light is. You'd think it's for foglights but the bulb is yellow which makes me think it's an indicator. However, there are 3 sets of lights in the headlight housing. Perhaps the outermost one is simply a parking/side marker light

The dash looks very futuristic and uncharacteristic of Toyota. I'm not sure if I like it or not but I shall see when they unveil this car. It also looks like the dash tilts towards the driver I like that but I have a feeling i'll feel claustrophobic with the way the dash pops out. I like the current Prius' dash and especially there's knee room to the right side for the driver's legs and now it's replaced with that big table looking dash.

I love the interior, when I went to look at the pics the first thing I was hoping is that they got rid of that ugly dash design they have now. I hate how the current one is just a row with lots of space underneath. This swoosh design is so cool and reminds me of the Supra's interior from yesteryear.

The gearshift looks similar to a BMW Sequential Shift transmission. If the functionality is more like the standard PRNDL (or PRNDB for HSD vehicles) and not that stubby little thing that the current Prius has, then I like it.

It could be an adjustable/slide-back-and-forth front centre armrest like on the new Venza. It probably still flips up to open, but is adjustable back-and-forth. It looks like there are 2 cupholders: one behind the gearshift and the other one in front of the armrest / console bin cover. To me, the armrest looks to be slid back a bit.

Yes it does. I like it, and am glad to see it coming to Toyota vehicles.

Note the European Union licence plate (and the "B" for Belgium). Perhaps the amber lamp is a European regulation? Remember when French cars had yellow headlamp bulbs?

You don't think that the current Prius' Tokyo-by-night instrument panel looks futuristic? To each his own, I guess. I am still hoping that the new Prius will have more conventional instruments, and not have a digital speedometer like the Gen1 and Gen2 Prius and the current Civic. Even GM, which was really into digital instruments in the late-1980s / early-1990s went back to conventional round instruments (except for the Corvette).

I like the fact that Toyotas have the simple dashboards, so unlike Honda, which has gone the way of the Starship Enterprise, with the acres and acres of buttons.

The high sloping centre-stack-into-centre-console is like the one in the Toyota Auris.

Looks cool but I hate the centre console....takes away leg room for both driver and passenger. Toyota has a problem not letting the seats go back far enough for tall drivers and my solution has been to sit with legs splayed...doesn't work with large centre consoles (see new matrix for example) drives me nuts. Don't box me in with the centre console.

You are obviously not the 95th percentile Japanese male! :)

Do you have problems with short seat cushions and low headroom also, problems typical of Toyotas (and other Japanese vehicles)?

I read that the centre console in the Mazda CX-9 is especially constricting. What about the parking brake handle on the Honda Civic? That one seems to another sore point (pun intended) with long-legged drivers.

How tall are you guys? I'm 6'1" and never seem to have a problem even in the yaris which I feel there should be a problem with how the console is formed.

It appears to have the same layout as the current joystick, just mounted in the horizontal, rather than vertically in the dashboard.

No actually I didn't think the current Prius has a futuristic interior. It still had characteristics of Toyota i'm used to. This one has gone into a new styling direction already seen from the Auris and Venza. I'm guessing Toyota is undergoing a new design language to better compete with other automakers.
I do hope this has the digital speedometer and I like it on the Civic be cause digital speedos are very straightfoward. I guess it may not please everyone but just because GM offered it in the 80s doesn't mean that it's an awful idea. I'm glad too for Toyota's simple dashboards. I don't know why Honda is turning its ways and coming out with messy designs not just the interiors but exteriors as well. I always thought Honda as a direct competitor to Toyota but now it seems like they don't even care anymore.

I don't like the console division between passenger and driver. Looks kinda funky. I noticed the indicator light on the mirror. I've always liked those.

The antenna does need to be in the glass.

Yeah looks like a bigger version of the console style found on the Gen 1 Highlander and RX300

^either that or three strips with the third one blocked by tape. but i'm leaning towards two strips. the earlier shots showed two strips.

^it does look like an all-reflector housing. maybe hid projectors in the higher-end models? btw, on the latest spyshots (the black one) with the reflectors, which one are the low-beam reflectors? the two most-inner bowls? H4 dual filament setup again? cuz the middle reflectors seem a bit small.

^yeah. actually, it looks more amber than yellow. i'm betting it's an indicator/signal.

btw, did you notice the rear brakes and the wheels? :naughty: :thumbsup:

edit: the plastic-cover-over-alloy wheels are back again!

I didn't notice the rear brakes and wheels. 4-wheel disc brakes? They had it on the Euro models so we'll have to see if they'll bring it over this time.

Well, all the talking about interior or outside looks is nice and all, but..
what the matters the most will be other things, and Im sure you all know which ones.
So, to add more flavor to the mix, nothing is more beautiful than the new competition from honda!! Check it out!

Are they LED headlamps? Somehow, I don't think they will make it to the production car, not if Honda wants to keep the car's price down nice and low.
