Tire Size? 1996 T100 SR5 4x4

Hi all-
I've got a 1996 T100 4x4 and am wondering what the largest size BFG Mud Terrain tire is I can run without rubbing or any sort of a lift? I'm sure I can run 31" tires, but how about 32" or 33"? :disappoin I'm sure someone has experience with this.

You would have to bend the pinch welds over. I don't think yer gonna fit 33" under there without a lift. If you do any sort of off-roading...yer gonna rub. Probably the same fer the 32"...but if you crank the torsion bars up I'm sure it will clear but yer ride is gonna be really stiff. ;)

What size tire can I put on my T100?
Here are a few ways our members have increased their tire sizes; Fernando-I just put on my new set of 33" Bridgestone A/T on my 96 T100 and guess what, they fit with no rubbing and only a 2" bodylift. That's right only 2" lift. I did have to remove the front mud flaps and I adjusted my torsion bars a little but only to make it look more level not to clear the tires. The tires are on cragars 175-1 series that are 15x8.5. I would not go any wider or else they will rub. Picture It looks great. David-I put 32's on my 95 with 15X8 wheels and they rubbed, but I just cranked up the torsion bars a little and that cured that problem. just have to tolerate a bumpy ride now. Benjamin went from 265/70-R16 Dunlops to 265/75-R16 BFG T/A KOs. There is no "real" rubbing. The tire does rub slightly against the mud flap on hard turns in reverse. Chad's T100 with a 4" lift kit, 285,75,R16 BFG Mud Terrains on 16x8 American Racing Wheels. Picture And finally Dec99/Jan00 Off Road Adventures magazine states the largest tire for the T100 with no lift is 31x10.5, 1.5" lift is 32x11.5 and with a 3" lift 33x12.5.

There are 15" tires recommended for this truck right- 235/75R15.

Can I just buy some cheap 16" rims like shown here:

and get an expensive 16" tire to put on my 1996 T100 4x4?

Thanks guys! I'm a little surprised with this answer. I ran 31" mud terrains on a 96 Tacoma without a lift and figured for sure I could squeeze 32" under a T100 w/o a problem. Guess I'll just have to decide how important comfort is!!!

Those wheels you link to are off a 2000-2006 vintage tundra. They will fit with no problems, and the offset will be comparable. For the most part, any six lug toyota wheel will do you fine. Hubcaps may not fit over the front hub bearing caps depending on the wheel. Be weary of Chevy six lugs, they will fit but the offset may suck.

My T came with 265 70 R16s from the factory. As expected, this size has no problems. This is a 31.6" tire. My T also came with gearing apropriate for this tire size, though. If you have smaller tires you may not be happy with the shift points after going up in size.

What do you mean by not being happy with the shift points?

Sorry, i should have been more explicit. Depending on the gear ratio of your T, the change in tire size may make the gears seem too tall and you'll constantly be in and out of overdrive on the highway, etc. I suppose "shift points" doesn't really describe this adequately...

In my travels I've now found P265/70R-16 wheels and tires that apparenlty came off a Sequoia. My thinking is conventional in that I assume the whatever the manufacturer recommended must be best- but I'll take any advisement on here........ so that a I don't spend more time fixing something I screwed up in the first place.


Let me ask another question though- why does the decal on the door suggest that the regular 15" tires recommended on the truck be inflated to 26 in the front and 35 in the back??

The biggest tires I put on my T-100 are 31s. Anything bigger and the tires will go into my fender wells when I get off road.

I have 1996 T100 SR5 Ext. Cab 4x4 and run BF Goodrich All-Terrain TA 32x11.50 R 15LT . This is one size larger then what factory had on it when I got it new, No modifications necessary. Very quiet on highway and good offroad performance. Will throw speedometer off by 10%.

How much did they effect your mas mileage? Do you run off road at all? And lastly, did you mess with the torsion bar at all to prevent rubbing?

My gas mileage has never been great from day one. 15-16mpg. hwy, city, towing, loaded or unloaded.. I'm sure if I had manual hubs I would see a difference. With only100k miles in 12 years, cost of gas hasn't been a problem. I have mainly used my T-100 for pup towing, camping, boat towing, and hunting. Putting the 32's on had no affect on gas mileage. However, it did throw the speedometer off 10%. I did not have to do any modifications at all. The 32's fit perfect and have never rubbed. My off-roading has been mainly in Florida sand and swamp buggy trails. The TA/ All Terrain are fantastic in Florida mud and sand. I did run thru a set of the mud/terrain BF's. However, as they wore down the noise while running down the highway got deafening.
Switched to the TA/All terrains...beautiful.

P.S. The tire dealer where I bought the BF/32's first mounted a 33' Bf and it would not fit under the well.

VERY good to know. I think I'll go for the 32's. Are you able to attach a picture of your rig in a posting?? I'd love to see how the tires tuck under there.

The t100 I just got, came with 31x10.5x15's no rubbing at all. The trucks speedo is off 5%. So I guess it came stock with 29.5's? Does anyone know what that is? Like a 255x75? I have a extra set of rims, and would like to put a set of good street tires on them for long trips.. Thanks.
