New to the site, never posted on a forum before. I have a 95 T100 v6 4wd. Owned it for about 6 years now, replaced a few parts 2yrs ago: front axle half shafts/cv joints, upper & lower ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, brake lines just to name a few.
Im experienciing a loud kinda rumbling noise in the front end when in drive (2wd or 4wd). I can feel it on my feet & cant tell where its comming from. I took it to my buddys shop, put it on the lift, had it in 4wd & went about 15mph & it didnt make the sound i described. He mentioned my inner wheel bearings are shot, as well as my carrier bearing from the rear driveshaft.
when i did all that work 2yrs ago on the front end, i did repack the outer wheel bearings,
IF my inner bearings are shot, & maybe without the weight from the truck on the tires, (when i had it on the lift) could that be my problem? Also i made sure my transfer case had proper fluid level. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! dan

Hello to Kenosha> Was just there in January. Your problem is that it's too cold to be driving. Just kidding. You say that it only happens when in drive. What happens if you are coasting? What speed does it start at? Your buddy could be correct, but did it start all of a sudden, or come on gradually? I know, lots of questions, but trying to get you the best answer.

Hi, it started about 2 months ago when it got real cold out. When im driving about 10-15mph it starts making noise & gets louder the faster i go. If i take a quick corner or slam on the brakes, it stops for about 3 seconds. Although it warmed up here to almost 45-50 degrees, I took it out saturday & didnt hear a thing!! I plan to do some work on it soon when it gets warmer outside. & hopefully i'll find out what the hell that was.... Thanks for your help.

Sounds like grease got too cold. Could be wheel bearing or the CV shafts. ;)

Sounds like what I'm thinking, Cold weather does funny things--make things shrink, and others stiff.

Brookfield, WI here xD. My truck makes a worn out noise too comming from the center of the vehicle right below the 4wd stick and probably is comming from the Transfer case. I hear an annoying ruh ruh ruh noise. Must be a bearing, because on our Lexus ES300 the front wheel bearings are bad and it makes the same sound. I must do something soon. What fluid should I use in my Toyota T100 SR5 4X4's transfer case?

Thanks for the reply. The guy at autozone said it was automatic trans fluid that goes in the transfer case. I used dextron 3. Mine took half a quart. As soon as i replace the bearings in a few weeks i'll reply & let everyone know if that was indeed the noise. Im driving my wife's subaru at the moment so the T100 is collecting dust in the garage.... thanks & good luck

Um...I hate to break this to you but regardless of the transmission you have...the transfer case takes gear oil just like yer differentials. 75w-90...about 1 quart.

Thats what i told him & he recomended using trans fluid in the way cold months & drain it when it warms up. I've never heard of that either. But hes actually the second person I've heard that from. Kinda strange but as soon as it warms up, its gonna get changed!! Just waiting on my taxes to buy the parts I need. Thanks to all the gearheads that replied to me! Much appreciated.
I'll follow up when I fix'er & add a pic of my brushguard I got for free that used to be on a chevy. (had to weld it on) but looks sweet
