Tell me what you guys think. Should I run a thermostat or not. I know the engine will heat up faster with the thermostat, but then again I know you don't need one either.
Thermostat Vs. No Thermostatmatchu808 03-13-2009, 12:34 AM Tell me what you guys think. Should I run a thermostat or not. If you don't have one your truck won't get up to normal operating temperature and your truck will probably give you problems down the road. The automotive engineers put one there for a reason, just leave it be. BamZipPow 03-13-2009, 01:47 AM If yer engine runs too low on temp too long, yer ECU will throw a code eventually. It's not that hard to replace the thermostat... ;) Dave's 03-13-2009, 04:35 AM Pretty sure low temp will increase fuel use as well. If a t-stat stuck closed on me at a point I couldn't easily get a new one, I'd pull it and do without until I could. However, I wouldn't recommend running without one as a normal condition. Flashmn 03-13-2009, 07:50 AM ....and running without a thermostat, you have no flow restriction, will have actually much less cooling, the bypass channel for coolant wont ever close and the normal flow of coolant will be hampered. You're begging for alot of problems running without a thermostat. ShawnM 03-13-2009, 01:15 PM Thats one of those old school tricks that really dosent apply to modern engines. If you dont want any problems with it just leave the t-stat alone and change the coolant at the proper intervals. Kookadala 03-13-2009, 04:45 PM A thermostat costs like what - 10 bucks tops? Two bolts and its installed. Put a new one in. matchu808 03-17-2009, 07:06 PM thanks guys. I was thinking it didn't really matter because here in hawaii the weather never really gets cold, but i guess you guys are right, its there for a reason so leaving it is the best bet. what do you guys think about the trd one? | |
