The 3.slo is not going to do much more than the 22RE. If you are really interested in an engine swap the Toyota 3.4 V6, or some GM or Ford engine would be a better choice. Buick 3.8, Chevy 4.3, Fords all possibilities.

Id reccomend a ford 5.0
Im gathering parts to do the swap myself. Northwest off road has the mounts for $200 bucks. Fuel injected v8, 5 speed would get mid 20s mpg.
It would have enough power to spin the duallys like nothing.
66 mustang reproduction 289 Hi-Po headers make it work. FYI

Stay away from the toyota 3.0

If you definitely wanna keep it Toyota, the 5VZF-E 3.4L V6 is a popular swap, there's lots of info out there. Other Toyota swaps that have been done into these trucks include the 1UZ V8 and even a few with Supra motors (1JZ, 7M). There's even been a couple with 2JZ-GTE's.

Chevy 350 is a popular one as far as American motors go, particularly in the older trucks. fourwd1 has obviously also completed a Buick V6 swap so that's doable as well. Good luck :D

an inline 6 supra motor would be a fun. Nothin like a camper that can peg 50mph in 2nd gear :D
