Changing spark plugs on 96 T-100

I am getting ready for a long trip and don't have time to take the truck to the dealer. Need some clarification on changing the spark plugs. On the passenger side there are three square boxes with a wire on the right of each box going into the block. Are the spark plugs under the boxes?? On the drivers side there are the regular three boots. Should these pull straight out or come out a certain way. I tried to pull one out and to was pretty snug and wouldn't come out. I didn't want to pull to hard and end up breaking something before my trip. Do I need a long extension to reach the plugs and if so, how long. I have changed plugs on other cars, but this one is new to me. Thanks for any assistance.

You have a 5vz-fe V6 I assume so it'll be the same process on a 1st generation Tacoma. Below is a DIY for the Tacoma, but it should be the same for the T-100, good luck!

Make sure yer putting in the NGK or Denso dual electrode plugs!! No BOSCH plugs!! Would hate to see you stranded or killing yer coils... :(
