I am thinking of getting a cold air intake for my 96 T100. Just wanted some imput from you guys if it worth the money or not! If it is worth the money, what brand works the best?

K&N and most of the rest of them are NOT true CAI since the air filter is still housed in engine compartment sucking in heat from the engine bay. And honeslty the stock airbox is already a CAI since it draws air from the fenderwell outside the engine bay. knj27 07-29-2009, 02:26 AM Not worth the money at all. Leave the factory intake, buy a good quality basic paper filter like a Wix or Toyota filter, clean it occasionally with some compressed air once in a while and you'll be just fine. Just avoid that Fram :bullshit2 whatever you do Those drop in K&N filters you pay 50 bucks for don't give you more than 3hp and let more crap into your engine. I know people say they are reusable so they're worth the money, buy 2 or 3 normal filters will be the same price and will be enough to last as long as you have the truck if you dust them out once in a while and don't get too much mud in them. An FIPK kit is also not a true CAI. A true CAI may get you a couple more ponies, but it's hardly worth it considering 5 or 6 redline hp is not going to make a difference because usable torque is what you're interested in on a truck. Plus sucking air from outside, such as the fender well, means you run a very high risk of sucking water into the engine, especially if you ever off-road. Definitely keep it stock and spend your money elsewhere. There are a million threads on this elsewhere on the forum if you're interested. :D Zuke76 07-29-2009, 07:36 AM Deck plate mod. The dyno showed a deck plated mod and k&n drop in filter averaged about a 8-10hp gain. A "CAI" from k&n averaged around 6-8HP. I will dig up the web link. Zuke76 07-29-2009, 07:45 AM Found the link. A gain of 10 peak hp (near the redline) on either of those engines would knock .3 seconds of off your 1/4 time at best, which is going to be barely noticeable when you're driving it.
