hoffsta 07-30-2009, 04:01 AM Hey, I've never been a fan of 5.25" speakers. I know some on the forum have stated that they've managed to fit 6.5" slim speakers in their front doors but I haven't found any details on how to make it happen.
Anyone willing to share their experience?
Also, did any T-100s ever ship with component speakers that place the tweeters up high near the mirrors? To me this setup sounds the best but I also like a stealthy stock look to deter potential hooligans. Placing an aftermarket tweeter right next to the window screams, "steal me". If you have a t-100 with stock component tweeters please post a picture!
Thanks!
BamZipPow 07-30-2009, 06:24 AM Yes...the SR5 package usually had the upgraded sound package which included the tweeters near the mirrors.
I did see someone looking to sell their adapters on Craigslist...but I can't seem to find their listing... :(
BamZipPow 07-30-2009, 06:30 AM You can see the tweeter in this piccie...

BamZipPow 07-30-2009, 07:11 AM Cheapest price so far is $11.08 plus shipping (http://www.roadgiant.com/metra828139toyotat-1001993-1998speakeradapterplates.aspx)...not sure if they come in a pair or not.
Not sure what size these are either. You'll have to contact the sellers and see if they have any more information about this speaker adapter. :D

Dont buy them. They dont work. They are the same size as the stock ones. A 6 1/2 does NOT even come close to fitting in them. Been there done that. Your better off making some custom ones yourself out of wood. And make sure you get shallow mount speakers. Normal ones will hit the window glass when you roll it all the way down.

What do you mean it comes with the door mount for the bigger speakers? Did you get 6.5" woofers in without having to fabricate anything?
Thanks everyone!

Did you get yours to fit? if so how deep a speaker will the door take?

I think it is 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 deep that fits in the stock mount . I ditched the 6 1/2s and went with some 5 1/4 componets instead. But you can make a adapter to make the 6 1/2 fit out of some 1/4 plywood and 3/4 plywood and just copy the stock one. Pretty easy once you look at it and think about it for a min. Thats what I was going to do till I found the 5 1/4s from a friend for cheap.

these are in my truck right now are are rockin away
ill get yall pics later. dont make no plywood shenanigans cause ull be like this guy -> :headbang: lol. with crutchfield, the speakers should come with mounting brackets that replace the factory ones. i also anly had the 5.25 or whatev the tiny ones are lol

Metra makes a kit for the T100 that replaces the factory mount for the door speakers with 6.5" the kit is less than $20.00 and it works really well! as for the back your going to have to get small boxes and an amp. I took out my factory amp under the radio and used the metra kit for that as well. only for power and antenna up down. I ran my own wires for everthing else
Good Luck

hoffsta 08-03-2009, 04:47 PM It looks like the Metra kit and the Crutchfield adapter are the same unit- and I'm glad to hear it's working for some of you. I think I'll try the Crutchfield route as they have Infinitys on sale right now. Thanks to everyone for the input. I'll let you know how it works out!

just 1 more thing metra also makes spacer rings to give you more mounting depth 1/4 - 1" you may have to do a little minor shaving on the grill cover but it should be ok if its not too deep.

dalyman72 08-03-2009, 05:18 PM ls1 is right. with my crutchfield adapeter, the outer neoprene rubbed the grill. i just used a dremel and filed it off. MAKE SURE U DO THIS! it will rub/tear the speaker up if you dont

and thats the tweeter next to it
heres the whole thing. yeah i know it looks ghetto as hell but whatev. the blue thing @ the top of the speaker is the bass filter. i put that on since they are midrange speakers and bass is terrible. now i just turn the bass all the way up and let the 6x9's do the talking. i plan to move the crossover sometime. just gotta decied where

dalyman & LS1: thank you so much- this is exactly the info myself and I'm sure many others needed! I can't wait for the new sounds!
dalyman: meh, I don't see why you'd move the crossover, it's outa sight and doing it's job just fine! My new Kenwood deck has built in crossovers so I won't need those cool bassblockers.
BTW everyone: Crutchfield is having a deal right now- last year's Infinitys are all on sale and if you buy two pair you get a free set of $100 Harmon/Kardon headphones. Add all the free install stuff such as the above mentioned adapter plates plus free shipping and it's almost a nobrainer!
hoffsta 08-03-2009, 06:49 PM dalyman: I think I'm going to get the same speakers you have: Did you need any spacer rings or was the standard crutchfield kit adequate?
dalyman72 08-04-2009, 07:05 PM crutchfield gives u everything. it takes a minute to get the metal ring and the speaker brakcet lined up right, but youll get it haha. if you get these speakers, get ready for an extremely clean sound. but seriously, there is very, very little bass. if you turn your lows all the way up to try to make some, it just sounds bad. i was scared of making them bottom out (which could potentially lead to them blowing. hence the bass blockers). but they are great. good luck! and me and ls1 will most likley be here if you run into a snag

dude, why did you add a 6db cap after your xover ? you realize you just altered your speaker to slightly out of phase, as well as messed up the resistance and entire functionability of the entire crossover? if it was a 2nd order xover, you now just increased the value of the cuttoff to nowhere near where you want to be.
There is no way you are going to damage your mid drivers off headunit power anyway. (like 8 watts MAX) And even if you where powering them, Thats why the speakers COME with crossovers ! :p:
If the drivers where crackling, its because they simply don't have enough power. Give them some !

Hey Bam: Are those tweeter mounts separate from the door panel or integrated? If separate, any idea where to find them?
Also, how hard do you suppose it would be to transplant power door locks and windows into a DX? I've never had a full-size truck before and I'm finding it so far to reach across the cab for some fresh air!

Yes...the tweeters are separate and not molded into the door panel. Best place to find them is in the yards...or someone parting out their T-100 on CL.
Not exactly sure how hard it would be to install the power package in the doors but you might be better off just finding someone who has spare doors with the power package in there. Of course, you still have the wiring and modules to connect up but if you have the time...it shouldn't take too long. :D
illnastyimpreza 08-30-2009, 02:19 PM ^ A Pillars are usually always better choice for for tweeter placement. Generally you want to place your tweets as far forward in the vehicle as possible to move the sound stage to the theoreticle middle of the stage...ie like its comming from your hood :) Imaging is much improved & the wiring is much easier due to the fact you don't have to run wire to the door. :)
I still havn't figured out if I want to try to fit my 7'' drivers in the doors of this badboy yet... The little pop-out grill on our door panels is awesome !
hoffsta 08-30-2009, 02:58 PM ^ A Pillars are usually always better choice for for tweeter placement.
I hear ya. The reason I was hoping to use the factory mounts is to maintain a stock look. I go hiking from remote trailheads often and the tweekers around here will break in for the slightest suspicion of valuable goods. If I can't find a pair of factory mounts, I may have to look into the pillar mounts- What's a good source for A-Pillar mouldings?
So then I assume you'd have the crossovers under the dash somewhere with speaker wire running to the door for the woofers?
