95 motor swap

so the head gasket went in my 95 pickup that has a 3.0 in it and all the quotes i have gotten have been between 1500 and 1900 to fix. so i am thinking about a new motor for it. i am mostly thinking of putting another 3.0 in it but i have allways wanted a yota with a 305 or even better a 350 in it. but my question is what has to be done for me to put a 350 in the truck. i know i will need a tranny to go with the motor but how will the rear end hold up. do i need a whole new chevy rearend or can i just put dana's in it or something. i have always been a chevy guy and have just gotten into the yotas in the past couple years so i really dont know what this job will intail. thanks for any help i can get.

also if there are any other motor swaps that anyone sugests let me know

$1500-1900 to fix the 3.0 is still a lot less than a motor swap will be.
And if you were planning on doing the motor swap yourself (and if you weren't, change the above sentence to a lot, lot, lot less), you should be able to replace the HG in your 3.0 for a couple hundred in parts.

thanks for the reply. if i was to replace the head gasket on my own is there somewhere i could go that would have a step by step or a how too. i have never done anything like this before. i try to do most of the work on my vehicles but i have never attempted a project this big before. i have rebuilt my share on snowmobile motors and what not but ive never been further into a truck motor then changing an intake manifold.

And this reminds me of another fact. The HG problem was so big Toyota was forced to have a service campaign to deal with it. They will fix it for free, and you may be covered by it. Talk to a dealer to see if it's been done on your truck (if you're not the original owner), you just need to give them the VIN.

i called a dealer near me and they said that the only recall or anything on my truck was for something with the steering and it had been done. i also called toyota and they said the same thing they said they couldnt find anything about them fixing head gaskets in the 3.0

Drop the Toyota 3.4 V6 in there. It's such a nice motor without all the problems of the 3.0. And I believe it's pretty much a direct swap!

I own a 94 pick-up with the 3.0 and my friend owns a 98 4runner with the 3.4 and I am so jealous everytime I drive his truck.
