My take... It still has no power! Sorry, these 22RE's just arn't powerhouses, great engines, but not big on HP. xsvtoyz 10-05-2009, 09:48 AM haha you are right I was not paying attention to the re. LOL efi. Yeah cams and exhaust are about it. I guess its all in what you want. zman8537 10-26-2009, 10:42 PM My '94 22RE equipted 4x4 sports a ceramic coated header, K&N cold air intake, and an aftermarket cam. My take... It still has no power! Sorry, these 22RE's just arn't powerhouses, great engines, but not big on HP. I had an 87 22RE in a 4Runner that I installed a Tri-Y Header, LC Engineering Camshaft, LC Engineering bored out throttle body, K&N Filtercharger and Jardine Cat Back exhaust with modified Catylitic Converter and it may not have been a rocket ship but the 4Runner ran great. It ran better than any GM 2.8 V6 that I ever drove. I wouldn't mind finding another solid one to do about the same to it. I was quite happy with it until some nitwit turned right in front of me and totaled it. black85-white05 11-03-2009, 01:33 AM We've been talking about this on a different thread but a great way to get more torque and power, or get the most from what you've got is by changing your gearing. One of the coolest things about our trucks is how easy you can take apart an axle and swap out gears. Our 22re truck were geared for 225/ tiny tires when you add bigger tires and you lose that stock drivability it sucks. All you have to do is find yourself two stock Third members or " Pumkins " as some call it from another wrecked pu or 4 runner. Our truck have 4:10 gears then theres 4:56 an 4:88. If your handy with the steel you could do the swap in your driveway with hand tools. The difficulty will depend on how much rust youve got on your ride. Buy regearing you can tap into the power youve lost over the years. Just remember the lower the gears the higher you'll rev at your top highyway speed I had 5:29 aftermarket gears and I reved over 3200 on the highway. black85-white05 11-03-2009, 01:36 AM We've been talking about this on a different thread but a great way to get more torque and power, or get the most from what you've got is by changing your gearing. I forgot to mention the best part, it's cheap third members range from $50-250 used. There are other costs but if you do the work yourself it can be very cheap. | |
