What did they change from 22RE 90-95 2.4L to the new 2.4L to get the horse power up to 140 from 116? torque 160 from 140 ft lbs?
question-difference between 90-95 and 96 tacoma 2.4Lpt00323i 04-28-2004, 11:32 PM What did they change from 22RE 90-95 2.4L to the new 2.4L to get the horse power up to 140 from 116? torque 160 from 140 ft lbs? superjoe83 04-29-2004, 01:55 AM the Tacoma engine is entirely different than the 22R or RE, the 2.4 taco motor is a Dual Over Head Camshaft 16 valve engine, the 22RE is a single cam 8 valve, the intake and exhaust are on opposite sides also, and the 2.7 which is used in the 4x4's is basically the 16 valve 2.4 stroked to increase displacement up to 2.7, the 2.7 block is different because it uses balance shafts, but i think that the heads between the 2.4 and 2.7 are interchangeable, the engine code for the 2.4 is 2RZ-FE, and 2.7 3RZ-FE, i think that Toyota got the extra horsepower and torque from the new head design and higher compression ratio pt00323i 04-29-2004, 12:16 PM so 95 was the last of the 22 series engine after 25 years. | |
